I don't know how easy it would be but can they automate closing threads that have no new post. Maybe after 2 weeks.

I think closing a thread after 3 months without a new post would be more reasonable.

I think closing a thread after 3 months without a new post would be more reasonable.Perhaps the OP could appeal to unlock it if there is an update, but I think 3 months is a good amount of time before autolock (if such a thing is possible).

My issue is most new posts on old threads are of the yes I agree or just a rehash of whats been said. I undestand things change but then you can open a new thread for the change. I hate opening a thread and seeing the same thing in a two week no post thread. the current

is a prime example.

Most of the necro's come from people using the Search function, and then responding without checking the date (I've been guilty).

However, the counter-examples, e.g. of people who update their own threads much later, or of On-Topic questions to old discussions, seems to outweigh a blind auto-close.

Me, I'd rather see the occasional annoying necro than have related conversations scattered through several threads. Too much of that already. :p

Yeah I've seen some valid necro posts, particularly with regards to recent changes. Its useful to have the old information/testing/discussion/dev responses there as a reference, so that people can understand how things used to work and discuss how things work now.

*puts on old man hat

You see, in the old days of online forums, it was very common for there to be a stickied post with the rules, and inevitably, one of those rules was:
"please search for your subject before creating a new thread"
for lo - in days of old, online forums were used for communication across time as well as space.

In these days of infinite scroll and content with a shelf life of hours... ¯\(°_o)/¯

Oh hey, is that a cloud up there? I feel the urge to yell at it.
