View Full Version : Devs please, add colorblindness support

Both new raids require color sight for certain elements of the raid mechanics. The Crucible in Gianthold is very difficult to solo when you cannot tell what color the gem is above the symbol for the wheels.
For future updates, please add some support for those who do not have the privilege of color sight.

I agree. I am not color blind but am visually impaired. In some games a color blind setting is easier for me to play in then the normal setting. This is one reason I give DDO such long breaks some quests are just hard to see.
Not totally on the same topic but why doesn't the game save my Brightness, contrast and gamma every time? I have to reset them to a playable levelabout half the time I start the game.

I can see just fine, but I'm down for this lol. Symbol + color works pretty well, so you can call out one or the other more reasonably.

I agree, multi sensory redundancy helps include more users and it's also just convenient for everyone to make it easier to distinguish and remember patterns. I like when audio cues have a visual counterpart, not only because I'm partially deaf but also because sometimes I just like to play with the sound off...
That being established...color sight is not a privilege. A privilege is something special, something beyond basic expectations, something one has to earn or deserve. The lack of unfair or unnecessary burdens in one's life does not make them privileged, that's what we should aspire for everyone to have.

I am also colorblind and have this issue once in a while. I never solo Crucible so it hasn't been an issue for me but I can definitely see how it could be. The only puzzle that I've had major problems with is Rainbow in the Vale.

I'm not sure what you want them to say. Going back and redoing older quests isn't going to happen. There just aren't that many of us to warrant the expense of going back and doing that. It's tough but I wouldn't expect them to do that, the cost effective/reward ratio just isn't anywhere near enough to warrant the expense. It should be something they consider when making new quests though. I haven't had the pleasure of running the new raids but I am assuming that not everyone has to do the color puzzles, so I would just volunteer to do something else in the raid.

They added the names of colours to the Rainbow in the Dark puzzle (ie floating text pops up telling you what colour you are standing on).
They could do something similar to other quests.

I mentioned this many years ago when I was running Splinterskull as I could not see what colour the wheels were. Since then the Devs added numbers (IE dots) to wheels etc. so they will show 2 - 6 normaly (That is what I now use). I would also mention that windows 10 has a setting for Colour Blind people in:- Settings - Ease of Access - Colour Filters (not sure if older windows versions have it)

Good suggestion. I am certainly willing to let my preferred game fixes wait for a fix like this so no one is left behind.

We want them to LISTEN. This feedback was given to them repeatedly for THTH when it was still on Lamania. I run with the color blind individual that was one of several making repeated requests for them to change it before it went live.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that our color-dynamic Crystals were globally modified to contain a unique symbol that corresponded to each color across all content specifically for colorblindness support. Are they (meaning the unique symbols) not visible enough? Are you folks not seeing them? Would love some more info if you've got it :)

THTH color crystal puzzles have no symbol, 99% of the ddo population came down with colorblindness when this raid hit.

They're there on Ultra High graphics settings. While it's entirely possible that the posters in this thread dump statted Wisdom and Spot skills IRL, you guys might want to double check the lower graphics settings.
You can see them in this video.

I haven't run the raid Lynn so I cannot comment on that. I will say that while I have the odd problem here and there, those instances are very rare and have not impacted my enjoyment of the game. It seems like the main issue here is with the new raid. After watching the video posted above I'm still confused because I have no idea what I'm looking at so maybe I missed what you were talking about. I would be willing to bet that my colorblindness is much more severe than most.

Take a look at this image. (https://imgur.com/TXt69Em) In that image, there are 5 red crystals and one green crystal. Now, take a good close look at the center of the crystals. Do you notice the little black shapes in the center of them? Each color has a unique shape associated with them. So, if you can't match them by color, you *can* match them by the shapes.
Now, the video didn't zoom in on the control panel at the beginning, but those symbols are on that panel as well. If you have a colorblind player, all they need to do is look at the panel for the shapes before doing the puzzle.

I'd say you have the support of at least a decent number of folks who aren't affected - these kinds of things are important to include these days, it's no fun to have someone excluded and kinda disadvantaged in a fun game for reasons like that. I can't imagine it'd be too hard to add a little art to some of the situations this effects to improve visibility.

Ok...got it...I can't see the colors but I can definitely see the different shapes you are referring to.

Again..I am severely colorblind, so I get it. But I'm telling you that I am borderline monochromatic and the only time I have ever been seriously impeded was in Rainbow a long time ago. I never solo that quest so it's a non issue for me and from what I'm reading they have included text to help with that issue.

Thank you for pointing out the fact that I have to come out of third person and zoom into the tiny crystals to see the symbols. Unfortunately for me, I can't stay in first person long or I will find myself feeling the effects of vertigo and get violently ill.
I usually leave the gems to others in the raid to handle. My primary concern was with the new raid giving out a buff that seems to apply itself to raid members at random when the power is released. this gives a color circle below you. Not knowing where to run to the corresponding color circle was frustrating.

Monitor size might come into play as well. I'm taking up 2/3 of a 50" 4K TV to play DDO, so I have a lot of screen real estate to see the symbols.

A gaming mouse would probably help you here. I have the Track wheel set for zooming in/out. And, you will probably zoom in, write down your symbols and then zoom back out.

They are so small and hard to see that I had to take a screenshot then alt tab out of game and zoom in like crazy on it just to actually verify the runes existed on a less-than 1 year old 27" ips monitor

Partially color blind here, I agree that many things in the game are hard atm for us. Quelled state anyone? Anything that can help us will be welcome.
