Epic Hard - Minor Vent

Hey everyone, just need to vent a little here. Since I normally play very early in Eastern US, (like 5AM-9AM weekdays) you can imagine the lack of LFMs. Which is not normally an issue since I am happy to solo my merry way around the place. I am not a min/maxer but I generally have good builds, been playing since 2009 with only a couple of breaks (once for a year, once for maybe 6 months).

So anyway, like I said, solo'ing is not a problem. I can handle most quests on elite or R1 alone. However, the problem I want to vent about is Epic Hard. I am at cap right now, so just doing a handful of quests to accumulate heart seeds on EN each day, meanwhile trying to mix it up by farming gear on other quests running EH. It has not gone well.

Here is the vent - EH doesn't seem to drop squat.

1. I ran EH TOEE pt2 into ransack (the pyramid and surrounding rooms) and got exactly ONE rare to spawn (the red ogre, whose chest never contains named loot) aside from the ones that show up all the time. The ones that are always there had no named loot in any of the 8 runs.

2. I ran EH Chrono half a dozen times looking for Greater Tokens and got exactly ONE. In SIX runs.

3. I've run EH WPM multiple times (not to ransack yet) with ZERO named drops. Zero Sentient XP (do those drop on EH?).

4. I've run the first 3 RL quests on EH to ransack, got exactly 2 named items (that's in 24 runs).

I could go on (and don't even talk to me about gold rolls lol) but you get the gist.

Anyone else have that bad of luck? Sheesh!

I feel your pain on this one, as I solo and dual-box farm stuff on EH almost exclusively. It takes an incredible amount of runs to get things to drop, especially the right things.

The RNG likes long runs of giving you nothing, really long spells of nothing sometimes.

However I can confirm that WPM on EH does drop named items, and I have indeed received sentient XP out of the Burket and Snarla chest specifically.
I have never seen sentient xp, or sparks of memory out of Bluto's side chest as the wiki indicates they can drop there, I no longer believe the wiki on this matter. Guess what I was hitting Bluto's chest for? That's right, sparks of memory. lol
I can't say much for the end chest, as I usually just hit the 2 side chests to ransack. as they are far faster for me to do than a completion run.


4. I've run the first 3 RL quests on EH to ransack, got exactly 2 named items (that's in 24 runs).
That sounds about right, and they usually aren't the ones you are after. Some that vex me are; Death House and the boots, FBD and the light armor, RatD and the bracers, and Final Vintage and the belt. I could go on. ;)

That belt and the cloak in amber are my banes. I still only have one of each after many many runs.

Hard does have much lower drops than elite, but I've gotten lucky a few times on hard. After multi-ransacking 2 different sharn quests on elite and r1, I got my items from each on a hard run for first time bonus.

on WPM, seen a weapon or two on hard. Only see the sentient gems and spark on elite+.

I'm pretty sure that I've pulled stuff from WPM and its associated chain on Epic Normal and Hard. That said, drop rates on hard are roughly two thirds of the elite drop rate, and I had a spell where I could swear that drop tables were broken for epic elite, so I can see how you might get a spell of bad RNG and get nothing before ransack. I want to say it's about 20% drop rate, but it might be slightly lower in epic so I don't know.

Fun fact, I pulled the light armor from FBD on an alt on another server. It killed me to pass it to a friend who actually plays on that server. I farmed that quest to ransack three times on G-land and still can't get it in heroic. Got it on my first legendary run though, because RNGesus is a spiteful deity.

I believe the drop rate is Normal 10%, Hard 16%, Elite 32% and +1% for each Reaper level so 42% at Reaper 10 I guess. Which for the trouble and extra time it takes to run Hard over normal doesn't really seem worth it when you are going to be skunked 80-90% of the time.

Every time someone who runs Reaper had the nerve to complain about named items in RL dropping like candy they said... I wanted to reach through the monitor and deliver a virtual slap.

Not everyone wants to or is capable of Reaper, doesn't mean the rest of us that also PAID for the content should have crappy drop rates.

And no I will NOT EVER pay for chest rerolls.

If you're gearfarming, the easiest way is always to get a full party. A 5-man on EN is a better drop rate than soloing R10. Also Elite is generally better than Reaper, unless y'all have a TON of reaper points and are spellcasters etc. Elite's faster and easier to split/solo areas etc, so you can clear quests faster, and 33% drop vs 34% is basically equal. Chest rerolls are certainly better on higher difficulties, but I'm in the same boat as you that I don't do them.

Still, if you can run EH fairly well I'd assume you can do EE with a party? Throw up a LFM of "farming FBD for armor" and plenty of people will drop by for a few runs.

Best gear farming in epics is underlevel and on EH. So do epic ToEE at level 23 or so. On EH it is not so bad even at that level. The grind is not a big deal because you also get leveling xp so win-win. Do it at cap and you are heading for frustration. I have pullled a ton of named stuff out of epic ToEE in lower epics on my assassin and often boosted; e.g. I have a +4 mythic boosted Kiss from doing it at, like, level 21 pyramid farm or something like that.

If it wasn't for the crab, I would do EE myself. Persistence is all I can recommend.

Yup, some of my characters are cursed. Some aren't. It is staggering what I have pulled with one character and what I have pulled on my main. My poor main is cursed :(

Do pt 1 to finish on EH. I've actually had better luck than pt 2. I just hate ToEE so there is that...

I did that first just so I could farm pt 2, and yes I did get several rares to spawn, but the only thing I got was an epic mace, aka sentient snack.

My secondary motive for running part 2 was to get the fire portal open as I do have around 30 or so fire/fly mushrooms. One time during the ransack run it did open the fire plane and I was able to score a few more as the dragon (but not the giant) was there, plus the couple in the "end" chest when you open the way to Zuggtmoy. Still no named items though.



Ouch. Remember that the weapons are considered "Named" which i have to remind myself of.

The general numbers we’ve used for getting the Named Loot Table in the last few years’ worth of updates:

Normal/Epic Normal: 10%
Hard/Epic Hard: 16%
Elite/Epic Elite: 33%

Reaper boosts Elite’s numbers by 1% per skull, I believe.

The potions directly add to those numbers, so a 5% potion would push each of those up by 5.

So I was off by 1% on E/EE *shrug* I'd say that was pretty decent going off of memory.

Anyways, I was running a first life character through heroic Sharn yesterday and today and managed at this time to do everything on normal once and all but 3 on hard so far. That is 18 + 15 quests. 18 on HN, 15 so far on HH without a SINGLE named item dropping. Not one. Blah blah blah RNG sucks.

When Sharn first launched I had a L17 run through the entire first chain on HE. I got ONE named item. ONE! Yes, RNG bites big time. lol
