There have been a few cool additions for turn spec'd builds. (Filigrees, Celetial Beacon, the new tattered scrolls from THTH.)

One thing I noticed with them is a huge gap in gear. The gear makes a huge jump from numbers like Eternal Faith at 2/2/4 and Silver flame at 6, up to 19. Nothing in between. )Celestial Beacon also only affects one of the three turn related bonuses.)

So request #1. Add the ability to cannith craft bonuses to turn level, max HD and total HD. Have them scale.

Next, the scaling into epics falls off pretty hard. This leads me to...

Request #2. Add epic levels to the effective turning level.

Request #3. If in a Divine Sphere, each core adds +1 to effective turning level.

Next, a 54 Charisma maxes out the turn table at +4. No roll of the d20 is needed. Messing with the table overall would make it more powerful at low levels where it already works well. So here is...

Request #4. Extend the turning table upwards. Follow the same progression, just continue to scale up to account for todays much higher CHA values.

Finally, the total HD turned is woefully inadequate in epics. This brings up...

Request #5. Scale the turning damage formula. Currently it uses a 2d6 roll. A couple options could be:

---- add a d6 at level 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30. Current range is 2-12. New range would be 7-48.
---- scale the dice. 2d8 at 22, 2d10 at 24, 2d12 at 26, 3d10 at 28, 2d20 at 30. Or some version that scaling.

Thanks for reading.

I always wondered why turn undead seem useless in higher levels...

I mean for its initial purpose, not side effect to activate enhancement tree stuff.

I would say that devs are not interested in improving this ability. Now that they are making the pass to the EDs I asked them to add something to improve the scaling of the turn undead in exalted angel and, of course, I was ignored.

Press on the thread of the exalted angel pass, maybe if more people support the request devs start by introducing some improvements in the EDs

They did make some huge improvements recently. It makes a big difference at low levels and it makes a big difference at low Epics and at cap. ESPECIALLY the Cleric enhancement that makes Undead go *POP* at your turning level instead of 2x level.

I agree that it would be nice to see some mid-level turning gear, though. Like a couple of ML 15-ish turning gear items that could make life better in the upper heroics through mid-epics (because the turning filligries can help there as well). Not a huge investment in turning mechanics. Just a couple of named items that could slot into a Cleric or Paladin's gear set at level 15ish.

(Edit: I do like the proposed changes in @OP's post. I just think that some ML15 gear could be helpful even if there isn't any changes made to turning mechanics.)

Thank you for your comments.

Just informationally, I can find back in 2010, in update 5, the radiant servant tree:

Prereqs: Level 6 Cleric, Cleric Improved Turning I, Cleric Life Magic II, Cleric Heal II, Empower Healing, and any one of: Cleric Divine Cleansing I, Cleric Divine Light I, Cleric Divine Healing I, Cleric Divine Vitality I, or Cleric Divine Might I.
Cost: 4 AP
Benefit: You are a beacon of light against the darkness. You count as 1 level higher when casting Positive Energy or Light based spells and gain the ability to expend a Turn Undead attempt to create an aura of positive energy that heals you and nearby allies over time and damages nearby undead. Any undead that you successfully turn with your Turn Undead ability are destroyed instead of frightened, and your Turns regenerate over time (1 every 2 minutes).

I also agree that the domains are very nice and add some much needed utility.

The last time SSG discussed "fixing" TU, they wanted to convert it into a strictly DPS function. Because bad ideas never go away, they just get new labeling, I assume SSG still harbor those goals. Getting TU fixed in a way that you or I might term "properly" -- as opposed to the veterinarian sense -- is probably not on their agenda.
