View Full Version : Which Helm is Better?

I have almost everything covered in my current gear setup.
However, I don't have Profane well-rounded (+2 to all stat) or Quality CON +4 or Insightful Deception.
Here's what I'm looking at for my helm slot
Head: Legendary Umber Brim: Insightful Accuracy 16 - Insightful Deception 8 - Profane well-rounded - Improved Quelling Strikes - Green slot
I would swap out my +22 Dex Artifact ring (Insightful Accuracy +17) for the +22 Wis Artifact (Quality Accuracy +8 - Quality Deadly +5) Ring.
I'd lose 1 Dex (I have room to slot +21 Dex elsewhere) and 1 from Insightful Accuracy, but I would gain +2 to all stats, and Insightful Deception +8
Still a net gain of 1 Dex (+2 to all other stats), and I'd also pick up +8 Quality Accuracy and +5 Quality Deadly.
This is the choice I'm leaning towards at this point.
or
Head: Legendary Executioner's Helm: Insightful Deception 7 - Quality CM 4 - Seeker 17 - Relentless Fury - Green slot
This gives Insightful Deception +7, and Quality Combat Mastery +4. That +4 to Dire Charge is main reason I'm looking at this one. DC is already 116 range even without the +4, but 120 would be better. I already have Seeker and Relentless Fury, so those are wasted effects.
Would Relentless Fury go off more often if I had it on two items??
Basically, is a stronger Dire Charge worth more than Quality Accuracy and Quality Deadly?
or
Head: Legendary Hardened Hide: Quality MRR 12 - Quality CON 4 - Insightful Fort 92 - Natural Armor +17 - Green slot
This one is a pure defensive play. MRR is about 80, so another 12 is useful. Quality CON is nice, but it's only +2 CON over the first choice (since Profane well-rounded gives +2 to all stats). Is more fort worthwhile? That's probably the only reason to pick this one. Is 306% Fort meaningfully better than 214% Fort? AC is in the 120 range, so I don't think the Natural Armor will help much.
Thoughts?

Umber Brim is +1 Dex, +2 Con, +8 Accuracy, +5 Deadly, +8 Deception (+1 Deception vs Ex Helm).
Executioner's Helm is basically only +3 to Dire Charge DC's (since Profane WR is +1 DC). Relentless Fury is on-kill, and AFAIK 100% proc rate for enemies of your "strength" or higher, so it's effectively a 100% proc for endgame. No need for multiple slots dedicated for it.
Hardened Hide giving +12 MRR and +4 Con is kinda nice. I don't think the Fort is as meaningful, although I've heard some people say you want 250% so it's possible?
I'd say Umber Brim is the clear winner. I'd likely keep Hardened Hide on-hand for certain raids etc where you want the +12 MRR (about 7% less magic damage), but otherwise I don't think it's a contest. As far as Dire Charge DC, +3 probably won't push you into another breakpoint of what you can stun vs not, so I'm not as concerned about that? You'll either mostly hit or not, and +3 probably won't be the decider as much as the extra HP/damage would be.

How often do you get critted/SA'd?
I know it's a pain to go thru the Combat log, and usually it isn't long enough to have all the info you'd need anyway (:p ), but your answer is there.

Dismiss any choice that has you using an artifact that isn't Radiant Ring of Taer Valaestas (unless your using Brand of Kalok Shash but even then the Ring is probably going to be a better choice).
I like Umber Brim

Umber Brim is clearly the best option in my opinion.

Umber, I'd say. I also thing that the +22 Wis Artifact (Quality Accuracy +8 - Quality Deadly +5) Ring is pretty nice, but probably would help to know the rest of your set up.

I have a question on Relentless Fury vs. Insightful Deception. My current gearset has everything stat mentioned above except for +8 insightful Deception.
So, is swapping my Legendary executioners helm with relentless fury for the legendary umbar brim (where I will only benefit from the +8 ins Deception) worth it? I dont think it would be, because relentless fury is a straight 5% DPS boost that I see proc quite often.
That being said, On the flip side with the Feywild Summer helm (Titania's Glory), I would get +10 Melee Power. The issue here is that I have a +3 Mythic melee boost on my legendary executioners helm, so my net would only be +7 Melee Power. In this instance, is relentless Fury better then the net +7 Melee Power? Again, I think it is.
Thoughts?

So, one thing to consider is that, if you have Feywild, you can now slot that +2 Profane in as an Augment, so that reduces one of the Umber Brim's benefits.

Thats one of my goals actually. I just flagged again for MoD, but I dont have the Epic Littany yet. That being said, my gearset already has +2 profane, since i use the Leg Celestial Sapphire ring. So, really, all I am comparting from a helm perspective is:
Relentless Fury vs. +8 Insightful Deception
or
Relentless Fury vs. +7 Net Melee Power (since I am losing my +3 Mythic from my legendary Executioners helm)
I feel like because I have everything else, the Executioners helm wins with the Relentless Fury and +4 Qual Combat Mastery

Mythic helm boost should be +3 PRR/MRR. Unless you mean you have a +3 Reaper Power version. Just wanted to point this out in case the other helm would give you a full 10 more melee power.

Woah, good call, you are right! So, that would give me +10 melee Power. Hmm...I guess, is this better then relentless fury? And I guess my DCs are pretty solid at cap, so 4 less is not game breaking.
Thought on that Stratis?
Thanks!

Well, assuming you have Relentless Fury up 100% of the time, the break-even point is ~100 Melee Power, obviously depending on what scales with each.
That said: for raids, boss fights, rednames, the first enemy in a fight; or even just whenever someone else is getting the final blow - you won't have Relentless Fury up all the time.
If you solo a lot (or only play with support players) Relentless Fury is a clear winner.
If you party a lot especially for difficult content, raid frequently, or have a bunch of MP scaling (like Sneak Attack) then the MP is better.
If neither, both seem pretty reasonable; you could even bring Titania's as a swap item lol.
Also if you just don't want to deal with the random screamy noises every few seconds lololol.
