They're broken.
Often.
Still.
Has anything ever even been discussed to fix these things?

Someone mentioned that INTIM is broken for them, and removing intim from the right click customize on their hotbar EVERY time you zone as it resets, stops them from borking. I guess, I heard, I dont know shrug

I have other issues than that. They like to randomly stop following me - I have to use the "feet" icon to bring them to me. They also run up to enemies... and just stand there. No attack of any kind. Getting pretty frustrating.

I've been doing a few druid lives and all.i use my pet for is trapped doors, trapped levers (i.e. VoN3 and 4) occasional doors that need another party member (that one House P undead quest, that one Necro 1 quest and if I want the optional in the Crowd Weapon Master quest)

They do fine for those jobs, but that's not much

thats the stuff people reported was fixed if you disable intim. I don't know, didn't test this.

My dog doesn't even have intim, so that's not (exclusively) what's causing it to freeze.

From what I can tell, the dog has several attacks that will cause it to pause dramatically, and if its target dies while it's doing that, it can become "stuck" and unable to perform actions until you re-summon it.

That would make the most sense - explains why it happens so often. I currently have trip, sunder, and intim. I'll try turning them off tomorrow and see how he works out.

It's been suggested not to take any of the "active" training feats. Keep everything passive/automatic, and it works "better".

Thanks all. I re-trained my pet today without taking any active skills, and he is reliable now.

It is still kind of messed up that we have to avoid certain game features to get our pets to work though.

Even though pets and hirelings do not WAI. I do not think this is a priority for the devs or most of the player base to fix. Most people only rely on pets to just be a helping hand to pull levers, etc. The AI is too much of a task to ever make viable and would require to much dev attn to fix which would result in other things going broke and new content to be delayed further.

Ai, don't mix how the playerbase has learned to cope with pets with how we actually want them to be.

Same thing for hires, it sucks that setting something to active means the same as aggressive while not taking the party-role of the class into account.
Or visa versa, the hire just stands there being hacked into pieces until at half health while it is at a defensive mode, geesh just run away and keep spamming those heals left and right.

<snip>... it can become "stuck" and unable to perform actions until you re-summon it.

Re-summoning would be a lot easier if we could DISMISS our pets! ;)

I have a young Arty with a new mechno-mutt. I have resisted training him to break boxes like i usually do, and he hasn't gone mind-blank nearly so much - so far.

I hadn't heard there was a problem dismissing pets. You are right clicking the pet's bar and dismissing from there?

Edit: forgot to say: I had read the post stating Intim was the problem. At that time, my arty dog did not have intim. Since i had a couple pts to spend i added it so i could test it out. Turning it off did seem to lengthen the time before his ai broke. However it got to be a real pain turning it off every time i zoned, including zoning within quests. And it seemed like every time he pinged to me I also had to reset it.

After reading this thread, I'm going to try respec-ing all his enhancement and dropping any actives, since i don't depend on them much anyway. Hope it works, thanks!
