View Full Version : Be Aware: Re-Acquire Raid Loot

Just upgraded my lvl 29 Reflection of Blackrazor to the lvl 28 version using threads. It had a 100k sentient gem of blackrazor in it with 8 rare filigree. Upon completing the upgrade it was blank without any sentient gem inside.

Be cautious when using the trade interface, it will eat your sentient gem if you upgrade a weapon that has one inside.

This is not a bug. This is how it works. It was explained in detail when they gave us the option to upgrade old raidloot to new versions.

When you went to use the altar in hall of heroes you got a warning that your old item would be deleted and you would get a new upgraded item. You ignored that warning.

You have noone to blame but yourself.

There is not a notice or warning that pops up anywhere, nor anything that shows in chat windows.

Mousing over blackrazor in the window I now see that message, however I did not do that at time of crafting. The fact that the device accepts sentient items is the fault of SSG, I just want some help here.

A person shouldn't have to mouse over every ingredient in a craft interface to ensure there is not any fine print or hidden instructions to craft a recipe. You should just have to:

1) Click recipe
2) Click craft/select/etc.

Hover over the blackrazor symbol next to the threads in the barter box, it's in red.

Maybe it should have an additional text for colourblind people ?

I am fairly certain this was supposed to be changed to where it would not let you use a weapon with any sentience in it. So yeah I would call it a big and not WAI.

This.

But we know our devs, they are incapable in many things.
Apparently it was too hard to just make it... work? Make the stuff transfer over to the new item.

Once again it's just poorly implemented. I'm not surprised at all.

Sucks that you have to learn this one the hard way. I hope they will correct it, and they should.

Is this a parody account?

This is his fault because it was written somewhere he didn't know to look when the interface didn't give any warnings?

well I was semi wrong in my response btw, its not the weapon icon its a exclamation mark, which I guess is meant to draw your attention to that. Or at least all the other weapons that are 20+ have exclamation marks.

This reminds me of the time I lost my entire TR cache when I transferred servers. Someone said the same thing. Yeah, it was never made right. I was offered a free transfer back. Yay.

OP I feel your pain.

Why would you assume the gem would transfer?

I wouldn't walk withing 100 ft of that thing with a 100K sentient gem, much less put my prized weapon in there and hope and press the button. It's even worse to think that you might be totally oblivious to the danger.

None of the conversion processes in this game are forgiving. I would have posted, asked in chat, read every fine detail I could get before doing something like that. And I would have tested it on a lesser item if possible.

I am sorry that you lost your sentient gem. But to act all surprised about it is baffling to me. If you have played this game long enough and are experienced enough to have earned 100K XP in a sentient gem, it really doesn't make sense to me for you to claim ignorance of the way this game works or the dangers involved in something like this.

To know enough to amass that XP but to not even think about asking the most basic or questions or even take a glance at the Wiki before doing something so permanent to something so valuable just does not add up.

I personally don't know what happened, but this could easily be a scam where someone is trying to trick SSG into giving them something they didn't earn.

Before you get all bent out of shape, I am NOT saying you are trying to get something you didn't earn. But if SSG gives you your item back, it opens the door to those less scrupulous people who can claim the same and get a free item.

And, no, I don't think the game should warn you with a pop up you have to click away every time something might be dangerous. There are enough pop ups. There are so many, most people ignore them anyway. Think. Research. Ask. The information is all there. And if you don't want to think, research, ask then, well, here we are.

So, it sucks and I am truly sorry that it happened, but I for one don't think you should get your item back.

If I can't feed a named item to a gem merely because it has an augment mounted in one of the sockets why should the conversion for this be any different? It shouldn't.
Sentient gems should render the conversion impossible until removed. The presence of any sentient gem in these items should throw a flag that blocks the process until it is broken (Hammer) or removed.
I doubt it's a machiavelian move by the devs but certainly an oversight with a band-aid small print warning. Wiki isn't DDO so that doesn't apply as a CYA warning, either.

It's a simple fix for a gm to give a sentient back to cover the accident and pass the bug along either to close the hole (Sentients being eaten) or set up a prompt that requires Yes/No to confirm the action with the blunt statement that "You will lose your sentient gem if you click yes."

DMs have been throwing out the dreaded, "Are you sure?" question for decades. Echo it in game, too.

Harsh, but true.

More, this has been discussed COUNTLESS times on these boards, for other, similar barter windows - the barter window doesn't "upgrade" your existing weapon, it destroys it and creates a new one. Anything and everything on the old item gets destroyed along with it.

Sorry, and it does suck, but this is old news. Very, very old. :(

Weird how you cannot feed something with an augment to a sentient jewel but you can lose a sentient jewel when upgrading an item.

Oh yeah, that's what they call the best of both worlds. Though not for the customer of course.

I don't think that barter box should have made it into production while it can eat sentient gems. It was just an unhappy accident waiting to happen. Far better if it had a check for the gem and gave an error message if one is present that tells the player to remove it before upgrading the item. Assuming that the gem and its filigrees can't just be moved to the new item - guess that was too hard as well.

As other people have pointed out, DDO is not consistent with how original items are treated when they are upgraded. It's not always the case that the old item is destroyed and everything slotted in it is lost. Coding this differently would have saved both customers and customer service people problems if the system was a little more foolproof and a little less use-at-your-own-risk-because-we-just-couldn't-be-bothered-to-prevent-entirely-foreseeable-problems.

Thanks.

So... you threw your soul-eating sentient sword into a vat of acid, without reading the MSDS for that acid?

PSA - this bench has been moved but is still in the Hall of Heroes, not moved the the Gatekeeper's Grove like everything else was. You can find it down beyond the teleporter, banker and auctioneer near where the White Plume Mountain entrance used to be.

https://i.postimg.cc/pd9Zjbyp/Threads-of-Fate-bench.jpg

Just spent 20 minutes on Titan chat in Orien and on the discord forum trying to locate the bench No one knew right away so I'll just post this here for the next person looking for where the bench went.

Why do they have to hold your hand at every turn.

They cant put in warning messages for every stupid thing. And I don't want to click on OK, OK, OK, all day. Even when they do that you just get to where you ignore the warnings.

I have never updated a raid item, but I read the updates. I know how it works. You get a COMPLETELY NEW ITEM. How many times do you have to be told? Once should be enough.

Read the effing instructions before you do something! READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! If you don't know what you are doing ASK!!! If you don't know to read or ask then you are not really mentally ready for this game.

ALTERS ARE DANGEROUS. DON'T ASSUME ANYTHING!!!

ASSUME = LOST ITMES = TOO BAD SHOULD HAVE READ ABOUT IT

Agreed, the inability to crunch the sentient gem in newer interfaces actually makes this problem more likely to happen because it lulls the customer into complacency about the gems and then *crunch* another much older interface eats the gem.

This is like a torturer who beats a prisoner senseless for weeks, offers them a steak dinner, then comes back the next day and beats them senseless again. Then the rest of the old prisoner's not beaten tell the newly crippled convict, "well what did you expect?" Meanwhile no one bothers to look around the room and say, "why exactly are we in this customer service prison?"
