Newb of 9 months here, so please forgive my “2012 called and wants its question back” question in advance. :)
I’m still on my first toon, a L30 Mechanic (pure rogue), running leg content, mostly LH, and I’m still refining my end game gear set. The thing that I’ve loved most in playing this game is that there is always more to learn. I’ve been running with Leg. Bracers Order/Chaos, and their +80 healing amp, since I hit 30. I’ve lately become aware of Devotion and that it can amplify my healing, though the math still escapes me. This is obviously desirable for Cocoon, but also for Heal scrolls and on the occasion when others throw me a Heal. I can’t find a reasonable way to fit a Devotion augment into my permanent gear (really love the Ruby of Endless Night and have only one red slot), so I am thinking about a swap-out item, which is not ideal but would still be helpful. There is plenty of rangen loot with good Devotion values, but a search on DDOwiki came up with an interesting option: the ML22 Wall of Wood. Along with Devotion +102, it appears to have a +40 Equipment Healing Amp bonus that will stack with the +80 from Leg. Bracers Order/Chaos or Leg. Drow Sages Cowl. Oddly, the EH and EE shields will not stack and seem much less useful for healing amp.
I like the idea of a shield, because I can’t leave it accidentally equipped, like I’ve been often known to do with other swappable clickies (GxB user so shield will auto-unequip) but this also means that I must go weaponless when its equipped, so that is not ideal for healing during battle.
Is my understanding of the Wall of Wood and its stacking Healing Amp correct? Would I get better healing with rangen loot with Devotion +130? Any advice on how to slot in improved healing beyond my current Healing Amp +80 competence bonus would be very appreciated. Also, I am aware of the Mysterious items from the Remnants vendor but I’m not anywhere close to 1000’s of remnants yet, so that is not an option for now.
Thanks!

Devotion won’t affect wands and scrolls, for that you need 75% boost from wand and scroll mastery enhancement, which iirc is in the mechanic tree so you probably already have it. In general I don’t tend to slot devotion on non healer builds unless I can find an item that’s worth wearing constantly, since it doesn’t seem worth the swap for cocoon, but ymmv.
Heal amp affects incoming positive heals, devotion affects only heals you cast regardless of target, and wands and scrolls aren’t boosted by spellpowers. No reason to get devotion for other people’s heals or your scrolls.

Thanks, I do indeed have Wand Scroll Mastery. So Devotion is not nearly as useful as I had hoped. Thanks for the knowledge, as you can guess I have zero caster experience. I'm still intrigued by the stacking healing amp from the Wall, maybe I'll grab one just to try it out.
EDIT: Does Devotion affect Fast Healing from FotW?

devotion is still great for any healing spells that you can start with your own spell points that come from epic destinies. cocoon and mass cure minor and a variety of other healing spells and effects that come from epic destiny are absolutely affected by devotion. If you're just flinging he'll sproles at yourself, though, wand and scroll mastery is the only thing that will boost what you're casting.
Healing amp is good regardless of where that healing is coming from. Healing amp good.

If you're using cocoon regularly, it's worth using a devotion item even just for that one spell. If you have no spell power right now, it'll be a huge multiplier to your healing, much more than an additive boost to your heal amp.
There are lots of good devotion items, it's impossible to know which to target without knowing what you already have, but there's a couple dedicated healing items such as a necklace coming next week with the expansion. Cannith crafting is also an option if you want to start building that, which you should. A devotion/positive lore/insightful devotion ring is a powerful boost to your cocoon efficacy. Imagine your cocoon ticking for more than what your heal scrolls hit for :D

It's an odd quirk of what happened to old gear when DDO switched to the current heal-amp system. The old system was: heal-amp items with different values would stack but identical bonuses did not. I.e., a 10% item and a 20% item gave you 30% heal amp, but two 20% items would only give you 20%. The current heal-amp system mimics other gear bonuses (but not in the tries-to-eat-your-face sense), namely different-type bonuses stack but like-type bonuses don't (regardless of value). When it came to existing gear, they decided the old 10%/20%/30% heal amp bonuses would be converted to Exceptional, Equipment, and Competence bonuses, respectively. That way people who had acquired two or three pieces of the old gear still kept their total heal amp bonus under the new system.
So EN Wall of Wood became an Equipment bonus which stacks with the Competence bonus of e.g. Drow Sage's Cowl. EH/EE Wall of Wood is Competence so it won't stack with Sage's Cowl, but it would stack with e.g. T2 LGS's Equipment bonus whereas EN WoW does not. So it's all part of the sliding-tile puzzle which is gear optimization.

There are greater potions of superior ardor in the house J featherfall apothecary. It's only 25 points, but it's an alchemical nudge up for 3 minutes during tough times.

Healamp increases all incoming heals. Devotion (positive spellpower) increases heals that you cast but not stuff like scrolls which are basically someone else's casting that you're using at a later date. If you're self-healing with Cocoon, they stack multiplicatively, like 120 Healamp and 102 Devotion = (1+1.2)x(1+1.02) = 4.44 multiplier to Cocoon's base. As a rule of thumb, Healamp is more valuable unless you're a dedicated backline healer (because it works on everything, whereas Devotion is limited).
Consider a swapout weapon set instead; the green blocks bottom left on an expanded inventory tab allow you to slot a full weapon set, that way you can swap your GXbow to a Wall of Wood + a Devotion stick (Devotion/Insightful Devotion is ideal, but Devotion/Positive Lore is almost as good). Takes the same swap time, but that way you can get the 40 Equipment Healamp and a higher Devotion (randomgen ML34 is 159/79). You'll also get a better "implement bonus" to all spellpower because it's 3xEnhancement bonus of your held casting item, so 18 from WoW vs up to 39 from a ML30 randomgen.
As far as getting more healing, make sure you keep up airship buffs (20 Healamp & 4 Devotion), look at your racial tree - Human has a bunch of Healamp; or slot something. You can probably fit a colorless augment of Heal skill (up to +15) which directly increases your Devotion; ask your guildies or check the Auction House for these. If you have a spare feat, you could Fred swap it to Magical Training for a 5% spell crit chance. If you were a divine class I'd recommend Empower Healing, right-click to set to always on for Cocoon for free usage since it's an SLA - that would get you +75 Devotion; but I don't think you can take it as a pure Rogue. If you have a spare twist, T1 EA gets +30 Positive spellpower; usually there are better twists available though.
-----
Math estimates time:
Healamp:
80 Bracers
40 Wall of Wood
20 Human
20 Guild Bath House
160 Total
Devotion:
159 Enhancement (randomgen)
(79) Insightful (randomgen)
39 Implement
28 Heal (10 epic ranks +15 augment +3 Wis)
3 Guild Forbidden Library
229 (308) Total
Healamp x Devotion w/no swap = 2.88 multiplier
Healamp x Devotion w/WoW alone = 6.53 multiplier, +126% over no swap
Healamp x Devotion w/WoW + caster stick = 8.55 multiplier
Healamp x Devotion w/WoW + caster stick w/Insightful = 10.61 multiplier, +63% over just the Wall of Wood, or +268% vs no swap.
-----
For Cocoon, the two factors that determine your heal are: Devotion at time of cast, and Healamp at time of tic; so if you swap, cast, and swap back you'll have slightly reduced heals (because they won't be getting the WoW healamp bonus) but you'll still get most of it (85% of the effect). Still, first tic should be unaffected, and regardless you'll be ahead of no swap by quite a lot.

If you are looking to stack devotion, get the enhanced devotion belt from ravenloft and another regular devotion item. Then try a LGS item with 3x healing amp. You can hit 750 devotion and close to 300 healing amp with 3 items if you are a casting class. Then epic destiny heals will fill your health bar quickly, along with any other heals you may have.

Let me quote the OP for you:

Hopefully that will clear up any misunderstandings you might have.

Wait for sharn and reitemize or swap gear for heals, then back to dps mode.

Thanks everyone for the knowledge, and thanks Khys for the math. FYI, Zanthiss is a halfling so no human +20 HealAmp :(
It looks like Devotion is pretty worthwhile, at least as a swap-out. I pulled a rangen Devotion +161 sceptre last night in Rage, I'm going to try it out this weekend. I'll put farming an EN WoW on my to do list.
Thx again
EDIT: Special thanks to unbongwah for the history lesson! SSG seems pretty locked in on Healing Amp as a competence bonus moving forward. I'm glad that this keeps things like the Mysterious Bracers / Cloaks relevant as niche items, a nice little perk for the day when I get to 8000 remnants :)
