View Full Version : The spell stuff that helps AA Rangers...

Ok, been perusing the forums and DDO wiki to figure out all the spell-related stuff that helps my AA (paralyzing/force right now). Would appreciate comments on the usefulness of spell pen... (possibly for Terror arrows?) and anything that may be missing or in error.

Useful:
1. Wisdom
2. Spellcraft Skill
3. Spell Sight items (to boost Spellcraft)
4. Spell Power items
e.g. Impulse for Force Arrows, Potency for all elemental arrows
5. Enchantment DC items/Feats/Enhancements (for Terror / Paralyzing Arrows)
e.g. Banishing, Smiting, Terror, Paralyzing enhancements for +4 to Enchantment DC

Not Useful:
1. Concentration - spell casting is mostly buffs and done *before* battles
2. Spell Lore - no Spell Critical chance for AA arrows

Unknown (at this time?):
1. Spell Penetration

Helpless damage does help the arcane arrows damage, so you can boost helpless damage to boost elemental damage while a mob is helpless(sense weakness!) + pick up the one of very limited ranged abilities in game to make mobs helpless: Pin.

By 'Pin', are you referring to the Epic Tier 2 Shiradi Destiny? Only at level 8 now...so have quite a ways to go..... heh....

AFAIK spell penetration isn't relevant to AA procs. My 30 ranger has no problems paralyzing etc with no thought of spell pen.

You have nailed pretty much everything else. Topaz of Enchantment and Greater Enchantment (ML:16/24) add a stacking +1 and +2 respectively.

If you plan to play through Epics twist in the enchantment focus from Magister (requires feat Spell Focus: Enchantment).

Thanks for the reply - regarding the Topaz, does that stack with items giving equipment bonuses? Does it also stack with the Spell Focus feats?

Yep stacks with everything, currently. It is an enhancement bonus.

Great! Thanks for the tip. Looks like the +1 is ML16, I'm L8 now..so a ways to go...but will keep it mind when I get there....

Potency and spellcraft are universal spell power and will increase force as well as elemental.

Every two Int will increase spellcraft by one so not worth chasing high Int.
