Level 15 Wizard Construct
Active Abilities: Reconstruct, Shield, Displacement, Blur.
Combat: Punches things.
...
Are you kidding me devs? Are you seriously going to release a construct hireling that is a caster, that punches things? ........ Yknow what Wizards don't have a lot of? BAB & To Hit.
I loaded this hireling into Elite Diplomatic Impunity just to check it out, (Level 14 quest) Level 15 hireling. About 50% of its hits were grazing hits, 40% was misses, and the rest was **** damage, 15-30 damage.
Are you kidding me devs? This is the best you could do? Like... I understand that hirelings are ****, but the least you could have done, would be make it attack with... I dunno..? Spells?!?!?!

I’ve only used the lvl 30 one, but it was pretty solid. It’s a tank that heal And buff itself. Sure, it doesn’t do a lot of damage, and it doesn’t cast reconstruct and displacement as often as I’d like, but it was staying alive in r2 lost at sea. Not amazing by any means, but stronger than the scarecrow.
Sadly it didn’t seem to cast reconstruct on my self forged human artificer or the scarecrow. That would be great!
It also looks pretty cool.
I guess my expectations were pretty low, but it’s better than I thought it would be. I could see popping it out when solo farming low reaper.

Not had a look at it yet, but it's name would suggest it's not designed to be an offensive hireling.
Active abilities you list are all defensive and good for a tank maybe.
But an option to tailor a hirelings spellbook and configure meaningful Offensive and Defensive options in the UI configuration would be useful.

It reads like a self-healing buffer. Kind of looks like it is made just to keep itself alive. It does not seem very useful unless it can hold aggro. You seem to be implying that it can. How? It's not intuitive to me that it would.

Yeah the thing looks like it should come with some no fail intimidate it spams endlessly. Would make it an intriguing hire at least.

This hireling is the most survivable hireling yet devised. I think with the right build it is outstanding. It is harder to kill than a skellie or a iron defender. I doubt it could kill a fly and it doesn't intim as far as I can tell but pop it out with a diplo spamming inquisitive and it gets all the hate and it can handle it better than anything short of a tank specialized player. Run it and a arti dog on a arti character with augment summons good diplomacy inquisitive tree and arti buffs you will never have agro and have a low+ reaper capable tank perma hireling.
Having trouble with a assassin rogue drawing too much agro? Pop the gold seal guardian anywhere in a quest and stealth to encounters and assassinate stuff. All the while your super survivable magical robot handles agro that would destroy your character and make sneak attacks and assassinates impossible. Jeez stop with all the complaints put on that necklace with augment summoning toss the guardian somee buffs and roll up on encounters invisible while your new tank machine pulls the initial agro,.
How about a warforged fighter who just wants a survivable healer to run with? Shield Guardian is your man. Farm away on level 30 reapers with a forged what ever and the most survivable healer in the game has your back with repairs. It wont draw agro in this case because you are the run up first hate magnet and this 3k hitpoint monster is displaced and ready to cast a reconstruct on you.
Level 15 and having trouble slotting blur? Call up the guardian and have him blur everyone. He cant raise you but i bet he is one heck of a soulstone grabber in a pinch. Have the giant bag of hitpoints with full construct immunities wait at the quest start and if everyone else falls he displaces and runs up to grab soul stones to take you to a shrine. reconstructing his way through incoming damage as he runs following your ghost.

Honestly it is because of the horrible AI that NPC's have. Summons are insane agro magnets. The only thing I know which has equivocal agro is a player in the extreme rear ranks. If you have ever played a melee you have witnessed a NPC make a straight line for the PC in the very back who is AFK (or not doing anything. Happens a lot when you box). I've had one run down 3 flights of stairs (in death house) and to the entrance to attack my box once. That was annoying.
I didn't test in epic, but in heroic my artificer drew hate just standing there. Not sure why this was, but it was not helpful. This was even after it's cleaves connected, so that's not a good sign. You'll probably need bluff/diplomacy to make it anything close to viable at holding hate, meaning that it's pretty close to worthless for an entire subset of builds that don't benefit from repair, don't manage hate, and don't need blur. The sad thing is that it was so close to being good- a melee based hireling that can survive fine seconds, even in higher difficulties. But, alas, at least in heroic, it's inability to grab any attention means it's only worth having if you need repair (which, to be fair, it has reconstruct so...) or can shunt hate it's way. But even then, it's disappointing to see another premium hireling that does less damage than Byron does.

Oh, that is a good idea. Not that you'd have to leave it at the entrance, because dang if that thing isn't tough.

Eh, you guys have some high expectation. Yeah, it's not a replacement for a PC tank, but it collects some aggro just by existing and hitting stuff, and it says alive. That's a step up from every other non-healer hireling.
Sure it's not "good," but "not entirely worthless in all situations" is probably the highest praise a melee hireling can reasonable hope to achieve in this game. It's more than I expected.

If it's a scarecrow equivalent that can cast Displacement on itself and self-heal, thus staying alive for a long time, that doesn't sound too bad. Mobs do seem to really hate the scarecrow, even without Intim since I'm usually too busy to spam it. They not very fond of the Owlbears either :) It's all about sneak attack for me. The Shield Guardian's ability to keep aggro is going to define how useful it is to me. I'm not a pre-purchaser so I will anxiously await reports, especially when used soloing, before making my purchase decision.

Thinking of buying it. Few questions
-If you are warforged will it repair you automatically?
-Is it considered a gold seal hireling? Like could you have the lv15, the lv30, and a 3rd regular hireling at the same time?
-Does it cast ANY damaging spells? Or literally does it just punch things?
I really want to do a hireling/pet build. But I'm at a disadvantage because I don't have the Alabaster Lioness and there's no way to get it :[

What I should really like to see is a Level 30 Legendary version of the Onyx Panther, with an Improved Evasion feat. That might just be enough to re-up my subscription.

Level 30 gold seal Displacer Beast hireling with permanent natural Displacement that can't be bypassed. I would fall over myself trying to hand my cash to SSG if that ever happened.

It won't auto heal my human artificer with improved construct essence. Maybe it's a issue with being self forged so I can't say for sure about true WF.

Yes, it's gold seal. You can have both SGs summoned (and as many other gold seals as you want) and a regular hireling.

I have not seen it cast any damage spells.

If we're talking legendary then the lion isn't worth anything anyway. I could see a renegade mastermaker pet build using the scarecrow, the shield guardian, your iron defender, and a standard lvl27 hireling. Everything else (including the epic owlbear) will die when something looks at it funny in legendary reaper no matter how many buffs you have for it. It would help a lot of they made some proper lvl30 hirelings.

Sounds like it might've been designed to be optimal for a build that can shed aggro quickly...maybe one with an automatic diplomacy on hit ability...

As a person that needs permanent hirelings to properly play... I just want them to do one thing differently... just one...
When you're on Passive, with the "don't move" Flag on... do not move... EVER.
Please don't move 10 feet away from the hallway corner to enter the room... for no reason... even though you're on Passive... getting into the lava... aggro-ing the entire room... possibly the entire level.
Is that so hard?
Or said another way...

...Sadly it didn’t seem to cast reconstruct on my self forged human artificer or the scarecrow. That would be great!...
I agree, although you can map the reconstruct to a hotkey and then target the artificer, iron defender or scarecrow and force cast it that way. I did that in between fights last night and it worked great to keep them topped off.

I have had it cast reconstruct automatically on my warforged, it only does it very rarely though. Better to expect to have to manually force it to heal you.

Does it absorb 50% of incoming damage as long as you're within 60' of it?
If yes, this thing will be invaluable regardless of everything else. If no, then it's useful as a pseudo-tank in some instance.

It's actually one of the most useful hirelings around, imho, just not for DPS. It doesn't get lost when being told to use a lever. It lives for a long time with critters beating on it. So, top target fodder hireling. Top lever hireling.
If you want DPS or Healing, gotta hit the vendor.
