Hey, all.
I recently got back into DDO after a hiatus. I was here for the original beta, but a lot has changed since then. I have a question for the experts (not me).
On a whim, and after I got VIP status, I built a gnome paladin. I flubbed a bit on the stats, with only a 12 CHA, but fixed that post-build with a tome. This was my 6th character, and first life. I built it on the KotC tree, then respeced ar level 4 to pick up the gnome tree and Color Spray, and continued a rebuild on KotC tree. My question is this: OMG, am I the only one gonzo enough to have tried this?
There are no sample builds available, anywhere. And yet, she out-tanks my fighter. Just CS with the high AC and saves means she takes almost no damage from hordes of mobs. I have more Skill points than I can use, so concentration and balance are as maxed as they can be. I ran nothing but elites from the start, solo (but with a rental cleric) without problems. Now that I've cleaned out the harbor on elite, my wife (6 elf rogue, also VIP) and I are moving to market.
Any suggestions for gearing? Enhancements? This char has become my new main, although I have not yet tried reapers with her.
Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome back.
Paladins need all the CHA they can squeeze. I don't think you are going to be tanky being your fist life and all that, so I'd assume dps. Even if you go KotC route I'd suggest you pic some SD: Resilient Defense; Durable Defense; Strong Defense. Skill wise max UMD and one between Diplo and Intimidate. Heal and Jump are worth a couple points. Not sure what gear advice give since mostly depends on how fast you level.

If I spelled the work right : ) )
Gnome Paladin. Something I may try to see what kind of funz can be had. I probably won't go pure. CHA/INT build.

with only a 12 CHA
so, yeah. there's 4 main reasons why paladins are tankier than fighters
1. charisma - you get a bonus to saves based on your charisma modifier, a good charisma makes you 95% immune to everything, because you still fail on a 1
2. charisma - your lay on hands ability is based on your charisma times you paladin level. so even in low reaper you can heal yourself to full if you have a good charsima score
3. charisma - with divine might from kotc you can boost your strength score by your charisma modifier, so with good charisma and not dumping strength you can have a str score higher than a fighters
4. charisma - a good charisma score means the potential for a good intimidate score
as far as going gnome, the only real synergy is that you get racial wand and scroll mastery and permanent blur. Maybe if you had a bunch of light hammers sitting around and wanted an excuse to use them, that would be an option too.

I just dinged 6 through Waterworks on elite. My wife ran her elf rogue, and we both pulled clerics along.
CS hits respectably well. Permanent Blur adds mitigation very well. Pull to the doorway, CS, then hop the stunned mobs to smite the casters, if they weren't caught in the AoE. I have 8 points in the gnome tree, and the balance in KorC, but plan to sprinkle some SD and/or Vanguard. At 6, I added Bastard Sword, and my damage doubled.i ended up tanking two bosses solo when our rental clerics ran off, and walked away both times.
From a pure fun perspective, this is a blast to play.My only regret is that the Bastard Sword is not the giant novelty sized weapon, in her hands. Also acceptable would be a giant club with "puddin" written on it.
All we are missing is an arcane archer to handle burst damage.

Also, thanks for the input. I really do appreciate and consider all suggestions.
Just so you know color sprays actaul DC is 10 + spell level + intelligence + illusion. So your hieghten is a must to keep the DC applicable for higher levels because it is consider a spell level 1 from the tree.

I have more Skill points than I can use, so concentration and balance
Just want to say, balance is capped at 15. No matter what, you will always get up on a roll of 15, except for special circumstances, like a titan runs you over I guess. Also, since CS is a spell like ability, it can not be interrupted, so you don't really need concentration for that if thats what you are taking it for.
