Looking for some build options for a Sun Elf iconic....

I still need 1 more cleric PL so I could go pure but I am not opposed to splashing and playing a melee either. People have mentioned a fighter splash and dual wielding Khopesh and I do have a Calamity on this toon so that is an option if someone has a build they can point me to. What about Necro cleric? Sorry just looking for some inspiration as I prepare for the next life. Thanks

If you want to use that calamity; I would recommend 14 cleric/6 ranger; war domain (free khop prof and holy sword); Strength based melee with charisma (Divine Might).

For AP; you'll be looking for Tempest T5's (40 AP, ignore improved evasion), Warpriest Amel and doublestrike (25 AP) and deepwood (11 AP), favored enemy from Vistanii and falconry (4 AP).

Use heavy armor and khopeshes; and swap on/off EDF as needed, you can play the role of a melee dps or a healbot as needed, and can switch between pretty fast. Soloing is about as good as it gets on a melee cleric and grouping is fun.

I got a PM asking for more info on this build by someone who's exceeded their mailbox space (or so it said); so I'll just throw it up here.


Basically I'm looking at doing a strength/cha based tempest version of a dex-based tempest I did before the warpriest update (which nerfed amel; but also added the doublestrike and buffed a bunch of other stuff in the tree). Here's my notes from the character planner re: which feats I took:

I took the ranger levels first (necessary for dex based to get dex to damage; but even for str based it's good to frontload the free TWF feats so you can take the improved versions sooner) - Don't forget to get enough dex to qualify for the prereqs!

Obviously you'll have to pick a different deity; undying court is for scimitars and sucks outside of that. None are for khopesh unfortunately; so just pick one with a good active at level 6. Sov Host is one option. EDIT: Oh wait; sun elf, you're locked into a single deity. At least it gives permanent fire shield; could be worse.

Pierce DR silver could easily be cold iron -> bypasses most of the same stuff and slightly more; but doesn't bypass the DR of Harry. Depends on what you plan on doing.

For the scion feat there's a few choices; I like Arborea for a quick few seeds quests then TR sort of thing. Celestia gives a large chunk of durability and healing power for a more healer focus. Ethereal Plane is likely better DPS if you invest in hide and/or have the rogue pastlife feat to take.

Awesome , thank you. I cleaned up the inbox space too so thanks for the heads up there :). Since this is an iconic I will not have any problem front loading the Ranger levels. Thanks again for taking the time to share, looking forward to giving it a go

Taking a look at that thread... and I think that what Unbong is talking about is a build he posted buried 5 pages in, a build which fulfills most of the OP's needs and is not unlike the one I outlined above. I'm not sure if it's any better then the build I posted above, but perhaps it's a bit more detailed of a roadmap?

Some reasons I like my build:

1) My build is majority cleric and the OP wanted a cleric pastlife
2) My build doesn't suggest investment into non-sun elf racial trees
3) My build doesn't waste any points in radiant servant
4) The build I proposed is very similar to one I've played personally.

If you have Falconry, OP, you can also go WIS-based instead. There's a bunch of other melee builds in my Cleric Domains thread.
