View Full Version : Maul wielding sun elf cleric with barb and fighter splashes...trying to do too much?

I need one more cleric life and had planned to double dip with an iconic life and make her a sun elf. Are there synergies to be had from taking the bonuses to maul damage in the sun elf tree and splashing enough fighter levels for feats, strike with no thought (kensai) along with Stalwart Defender for some defenses and enough levels in Barb for T5 Ravager. You could go destruction domain for casting cleric spells while raging or str domain for knockdown immunity, str to ref save, and +2 str.

Was thinking something along the lines of 9 Clr/6 Ftr/5 Barb with Mauls in destruction, t5 ravager, t4 morninglord, some kensai and SD for defenses. I typically follow tested builds so I would welcome the feedback from more accomplished builders out there if this is even worth trying. Thanks

For the record, Sun Elves are not eligible for the Silvanus deity. Not sure if you're aware.

I was not sure but assumed that was the case given the bonuses to Maul in the sun elf tree already. Thanks for the clarification though

It's pretty annoying the two races with racial bonuses to mauls - i.e. dwarves and sun elves - aren't allowed to choose Silvanus as their deity. And without Blessing of Silvanus, there are better weapon options for 2H battlecleric, IMO, particularly if you're planning on a deep barb splash as well: Focused Wrath + falchions FTW.

If you have Tomes or just past lives, just do a two weapon build instead of THF, I think only Sylvanus is kind of worth it. I say this having tried a lot of them to cap.

I still need 2 sun elf lives... pretty sure this is the build im going to be doing lol, its the typical silvanus build, but I just pull out whatever other weapon I want. Sometimes I will do TWF, and sometimes I will do 2handed *Not maul*... I have been thinking about dong a cleric barbarian idea, because clerics have that one domain that allows them to cast while raged... But I dunno, I mean the domain in itself doesn't actually give you anything, it just releases a block. Where as if you took fighter instead of barbarian, and monk... You would gain a ton of benefits from not only the classes, but the domain.

It is really strong in early heroics but I wasn"t able to keep my R1 streak going past Slavers - but have kept a Hard streak running since then - just finishing up in RL @ level 12 and starting to feel like I need more Ummp - I run solo and dont have any ship buffs - but gear is ok-ish - have a slavers might 5 piece set, 5 piece mist set and mire set bonus going... Best thing about the build is raging and healing and being able to restoration to skip fatigue - Thinking I need to add more fighter levels to get T5

early on the Barb sprint was a life saver - but not as necessary now

Any builders want to salvage my build? I could prolly wing it and get to 20 (this is just a heroic build) but I think it will be painful

I mean... Firstly... Why are you posting this on someone elses thread?

Secondly... YUCK!! 18 str and 18 con... Yuck yuck yuck... Never max stats on anything aside from DC casters, and throwers... Why? Because the return for stat points spent isn't worth it...

https://i.imgur.com/ICM6v1W.png
You are spending 4 stat points to go from 14 to 16 in a stat. You are spending 6 stat points to go from 16-18 in a stat.

with 16 as a stat, you are spending 10 total stat points, with 18 as a stat, you are spending 16 total stat points.

That 6 extra stat points, could have been spent to get you from 10 wisdom, to 16 wisdom since you start with 10 wisdom, or 8 to 14 wisdom if you start with another race. Which is great, cause wisdom is more mana, and its extra will saves.

Which since I just mentioned will saves... Lets look at ALL the saves... You could have spent those 6 points to get a +1 to each save in the game instead...

You could have spent those 6 points to get 6 extra intelligence, Which could then be turned around for a theoretical amount of 1.5 extra damage from know the angles, and turned into more skill points.

NEVER EVER EVER max a stat on anything, aside from a DC caster, or thrower build.

Yeah, my bad - the Op post reminded me of this build - kinda - and I thought I had started a new post - was cooking dinner and posting and got confused - so apologies OP

Stats are done locked in - but thanks for the lesson - I think I thought I had a good reason when I built it last year. But who knows? Never claimed to be a builder and was asking for help - not a lecture.

OP - I'll delete this if you want.

Thanks Dad....

Seriously - I do appreciate the explanation (and I thanked you for it before I snarked -lol) - even though it seems to be contrary to convention as most of the builds I see have at least 1 stat maxed and many with a strong second stat... anyways - i dont want to derail the op's thread anymore than I already have so Ill take it to my own thread... thx again - and again apologies OP
