View Full Version : Returning player in need of build advice! Cleric/Monk/Rogue

Hey all!
So I have been away from the game for about 6 years now. I am wading through the updates, and trying to remember how to crawl at this point. I am asking for some help, and any serious advice would be appreciated.
Here's the situation. I have a character that is on her third TR (or third life, as the parlance has seemed to changed). She is early into her third life. I was using a build that seems to have vanished from the forums, and even if I found it, it would probably be woefully out of date. As a result, I am looking for some build advice on a build that does not exist currently (or that I can't find...)
The basics...
Halfling Cleric/Monk/Rogue (There is a human build on the forums, and I have toyed with making adjustments with that to account for race, but as I am just returning, I am not entirely confident in my buildsmithing skills.)
Third TR
Willing to do a Lesser Reincarnation, but obviously not a re-roll. I'm hoping to have a passable character to get to my next TR. But confidence is not high on a truly excellent character based on what I have been reading. (Happy to be wrong!)
In the meanwhile, I will be slogging it out with a new character to re-familiarize myself with the game.
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
All best,
V.

Halfling Cleric/Monk/Rogue
First, welcome back.
Second, I am not a build expert, but I have been a mostly casual player for about 9 years. I like to see what others have to say, but for the most part I just glean what I can and make what's fun. So take my advice with a grain of salt.
Third - my advice to you. In the 6 years you have been gone, there has been a lot of power creep. Clerics have recently been revamped and are likely more powerful than they were back when you were playing. I also assume your rogue level(s) are just a splash for locks and some other low hanging fruit. I have very little knowledge of monks, it's just one of those classes I have never really played (only splashes). At any rate, I said all that to say this - once you start accumulating some of the newer random loot or scour the AH for some older named loot, it is likely your build will be fine to get you through heroics when you can TR. Stick with the older content and you will likely be powerful enough to run it all on elite. Try the newer stuff on hard at first (unless you can find a good party to run with). This will give you a feel for how the game has changed and time to reacquire your old skills. Then make a new build from scratch. If you would like to tweak your current build first, you can always use a free feat exchange with Fred and easily re-do your enhancements with plat.
What server are you on? I might be able to help equip you.
Good luck!

What do you have so far?
What stats, levels, and feats?

Cleric 4/Monk 2/Rogue 1
STR: 14
DEX: 16
CON: 14
INT: 13
WIS: 23
CHR: 13
FEATS
Heroic Past Life: Monk
Spontaneous Casting
Two Weapon Fighting
Weapon Finesse
Extend Spell
Maximize Spell
I may have missed something (or added something that was a given...)
Anyhow. This is where I'm at.
Incidentally, my character is currently parked in Delera's over burdened, and moves like molasses running uphill in the dead of winter. So that's fun.
I have no enhancements slotted. 25 action points waiting to be spent.
Best,
V.

Cleric 4/Monk 2/Rogue 1
Suffice to say; I'm not a fan of the rest of your build; It appears to be some sort of niche support build with strange damage-spell choices or something.
Cleric 4/Monk 2/Rogue 1 is what you'll end up with using a lesser heart of wood on your character; you can change up all your stats/feats/enchancements/etc with such a heart.
So there's a number of ways I can see this trying to get to 20, what is best depends a lot on what you like to play, and what your server likes in parties.
Some ideas:
Cleric 17/Monk 2/Rogue 1 - Healbot with trapping (and stunning fist?) - this appears to me to be the closest to what your build was before
- This build would could benefit from the falconry or harper enhancement trees (if you have them).
Cleric 15/Monk 4/Rogue 1 - Quaterstaff melee that can play the role of healer if needed
Cleric 4/Monk 15/Rogue 1 - Basically your typical quarterstaff monk with a splash of rogue for getting attack speed earlier then level 20 and a splash of cleric for improved self healing.
Cleric 7/Monk 12/Rogue 1 - A twf or handwraps build which can utilize sneak attacks and has a smattering of self buffs such as freedom of movement and displacement.
- This build could benefit from having Vistanii unlocked
I don't think any of these builds will be super powerful; but they should be strong enough to make your way through content up to 20. And they certainly have the potential to be interesting and unique.

I'm not happy with it either to be honest. Not my design! That said, I'm only looking to limp to 20 to get to my 4th TR. Thanks for the advice!

Cool, I am on G-Land as well. PM coming with my character name. I am L380-something in Cannith Crafting. Should be able to set you up with some gear that will help you out a little.

17-18 monk open ithf or?
19-20 tr
Notes
Thought about this over the weekend
Hard to figure best but prob monk quarter staff
But could do stunning fist twf Shintao
I opted out of healbot, since that requires grouping mostly to level
Won't make it to 15, so no quivering palm
Also don't know if you have tomes, that changes lotta build selections.
Hard to decide to go more str for ithf, need 17, or go dex to hit damage in ninja. Or if you had falconry tree, could look at going max wisdom
Won't be any kind of max build, but will have displacement. So defenses should be pretty good.
Really help to know the order of your levels, like did you go rogue at 1 for skills?
But this is for LR. Need to reset stats and feats. Can't change alignment. Need to add domain at cleric 2.
Ap would be like
40 henshin tier5
13 Shintao
12 ninja
7 halfling
-8 19-20
Ok I will also build up a twf stunning fist Shintao. But they just stripped heroic Shintao of dice adds to Handwraps, so that used to be powerful, but is now weak. So it may not be better than staff. But would have fist and tomb of jade.
14/5/1 Shintao
Str 8 2
Dex 18 10 +4
Con 14 6
Int 14 6
Wis 16 10
Cha 8 0
1 rogue twf
2 monk stunning fist
3 cleric of aureon dodge
4 monk (evasion) mobility
5 cleric domain luck
6 cleric combat expertise
7-8 cleric SLA displacement
9 monk fist of light extend
10-12 monk spring attack
Feat whirlwind
13-15 monk ic blunt
16-18 monk itwf
19-20 tr
There. Both options. Maybe Shintao be better. Same ap split, just 40 into Shintao.
Your choice.
I imagine your original build would have been a 17/3 cleric, which is good too. But like I say would need groups to level. I could do a stunning fist cleric if you're still interested.

That looks like the old Aventi (sp?) build. I ran that build to 20 but it suffered horrendously in Epics ('cause of lack of gear, made it to 23 before TR'ing)
Just LR (with the free heart, which should allow you to pick cleric domains, which is the only real reason to LR)
Grab a 2HF and swing your way to 20
Groups will like you for the healing in Reaper
Sorry it isn't more detailed but Vish gave you a decent plan of attack.
