Anything new! Something new! Something that, yes, probably will test programming skills to a reasonable extent. What do I mean?

When we see the next big update, what would really be pleasing more then the same old "newest quest" and far more interesting and fun would be the "new feature" or "new something". Something, a surprise, or not, doesn't matter, but new!

A house to store inventory that adds glory or reputation to be gained for doing stuff in the game that allows players to unlock better bigger houses, and alleviated TR cache issues for good... is something new. It is a new feature to the game that would be great!

There is so much quests now, but things like TR Cache remain and seem to haunt this game in a way that adding more quests won't solve. I'd rather see that fixed.

PvP is new, can't do that right now. There is a sub section committed to this, either as a joke to quarantine it as some suggest or because it remains on the table. I would love to see 24/7 PvP as something I can jump in and out off when I don't have as much time.

There are about 4 or 5 pages requesting familiars. This seems like it wouldn't be too much, could roll out with some quests that fit them in nicely. Familiars is a feature we have been missing all this time still.

Maybe 100 new spells instead of a big new raid. Wow, that would be so awesome!

Underwater and air combat systems intact, to add more realism to the game. Shooting missles from the water isn't too real, and very easy! Water is like this magical safe place anywhere in the game.. sharks and eyes of the deep, water elementals, and krakens or swarms of pirahna can change that! It is a feature missing currently lets face it, isn't too cool. Adding this would be cool!

Spears! This doesn't even need a big update does it? Roll it out with a raid or something! Put a few animations together, like was done for Vastani, and let us play cave man builds!!!

Immortality! If you add it.. I will play it!!!

New features that enrich the game are for me more exciting at this point then new quests, because we have so many quests, more are great, but there are so many features that by now, would add more value to the game then another quest would in my perspective because every quest stands a chance to be enriched, the playing experience becomes enriched, and more exciting when you got spears and sharks and more options to choose from like organizing your home and inventory for good, or battling with your buddies in PvP teams for some quick fun when time is tight, or going on a long campaign with them when it isn't.

I said I'd focus on familiars, but nah, instead I'd hope to see new features rolling in on a normal basis like quests do, to complete many of those areas in the game that just are going to suck until they get dealt with. Some may argue who cares about fighting under water? Players who enjoy a more realistic and exciting experience care, and that adds up to a better game too!

Something new, a new feature with next big update aside from the usual class and quest stuff, will add more then adding a class and quest and loot, as I see it myself.

I'd prefer existing features get imrpoved upon (mainly classes) first before we add new ones, also remember this game is 13 years old so adding new things is probally limited.

Yeah I've been wondering about what those limitations are, but I do understand how code can get sensitive after writing up my own code for an uber generator. It is nothing in size compared to DDO or any game for that matter, and yet it is already quite a lot of files referring to each other, grabbing tables and lists, injecting things, turning things on and off. It started out taking a milisecond to load, now it takes 3 seconds up to 10 seconds!

I heard they wanted to add fear to the scarecrows but it was breaking things. You put the wrong command somewhere and suddenly all you get is rubbish and string errors everywhere.

So I am left wondering if this game has reached its limit and can never add things other games have commonly these days. It would explain why we haven't seen them yet.

If this really is the case, and the engine just can't ever handle an open map, mounts, pets that fight, PvP (which is really popular no matter what anyone here says), more spells, underwater fighting, air combat, houses, spears, and content generators... then they are left with two options:

Stay on this old limited engine, accept those limits, and preserve the game, while adding only things that aren't really new, like classes and quests, instead of new content like mounts and a mount racing quest or something that would just be awesome if they did do it.

or

Keep on this engine, but begin working on a new engine, start fresh, and make sure it can offer up all the things this engine can't handle, and quickly add things that will get opposed before a group can root itself into a freaking lobby to prevent those things from ever happening, like what is happening with PvP and the freaking lobby here against it. That is holding back progress. Do what works and do not apologize or even bother to explain much beyond "this model has been successful and we would like to implement it to increase our own success".

Now if the engine CAN be updated, then options are:

Update that engine and catch up to the times, make way more money, and a way better game overall for more people.

or

Allow a stubborn base of niche players to suppress this game's development and keep it from ever changing into the games that other games are becoming, games where you can do different things instead of 1 sytle of play only. These games brag about these good things in all their advertisements that I read for the obvious reason they work and are fun.

I'd hope to see something new and daring if the engine can handle it. If not, then its good to see the game preserved, but I would strongly prefer a new engine that can make a more complete game then what we currently got.

I will note that the last time they updated the engine (before your time) it took over 2 years for them to fix the bugs that introduced and MANY of them prevented quests from completing. Mobs and players were constantly stuck in walls and walking over a bump in the floor or down a ramp could hit you for thousands, even tens of thousands of points of damage.

In the end the engine could do some pretty cool things it simply couldn't before but as I recall we shed a LOT more players than we gained over that time because people were tired of paying $15 a month to beta test a game. It wasn't' that bad for 2 years but the first 6 months in particular felt that way.

I would love some new things in the engine (actual flight would be cool) but if the cost is even 25% of what we went through in those days it's not worth it. I would hazard to guess that given there are layers upon layers of new code and new systems added since that update the changes of breaking things would be that much greater.

Updated engine has been talked about for literally years now and it's never been mentioned or hinted at by the dev team and I am sure they would like even more than we would to get an updated engine. The deafening silence on the matter actually speaks volumes.

Actually the reason is very simple, 30yrs ago dos is a language, 20yrs ago it was a guarantee ticket, 10yrs ago its cool if you know ms commands, as of last year, you need dos? Call India, they will set you up, cheap.

The "new" things is fun to think about, but don't forget we just got cloaks (THANK YOU!).

A universal tree that is intended to reduce clicking. I would love to see a melee tree that does not rely on 6-30 second continual clicking of abilities. Instead of 20 MP for 20 seconds, make it 10MP for 10 minutes. The whole point of this tree would shockingly be slightly less power, for more convenience and fluid play. It would be fin to mix in with other trees as well, but I suspect balance would be a royal pita.

Not saying get rid of active combat, just saying hitting 1234567 as fast as I can gets a little old.

I'd subscribe for 10 years if I could be a PDK that didn't look like a fat stupid WoW clone PDK.

I honestly refuse to even play one because of how dumb they look.
