Anyone tried fielding it so far? Would like to know before another deep dive into ToEE...

From what I understand, it’s not as good as bloom but more durable. Base damage is higher than bloom I think but the crit issue is an issue.

I like Bloom. I got two though, helps with the durability issue.

Assuming LD, standard crit feats, and +1/+1 from enhancements, Staff of Shadow is very likely to be better.

You need to do about 235 non-weapon, crit-scalable damage (before MP) before the crit extras on Bloom overtake the base damage on Shadow.

That would be like 16 deadly, 185 Wisdom with Falcony and Deadly Instincts, Power Attack, Arborea, 3x Enchant weapons, and all of the extra damage from Half-Orc and Kensei (+ Fighter Feats).

I like mine a lot. I prefer it over any other Q-Staff.

Just to be clear OP, you're talking about "The Staff of Shadows" (ML29 staff from killing time raid) vs Epic Elemental Boom correct, not the heroic "Staff of Shadow" (ML12 Attack on Stormreach staff) vs Heroic Elemental Bloom?

Fixed.

Yes, both items use the singular "Shadow" in their names. The word "The/the" is just placed in different places.

Speaking from experience I will likely get it dropped in Killing Time or get enough runes to trade for it before an Epic E. Bloom ever shows up for me in ToEE.

Yeh that is roughly what I was looking for, except I'm on a max dex acrobat with no PA so that throws Shadow further ahead I guess.

Guess I could have been clearer, but I don't think I'll be asking for the performance of a non-lategame quarterstaff that was released quite literally 8 years ago... and it totally does not compare with heroic bloom anyway.

PS: Thanks for the replies, guess I'll just give ToEE one prod for xp forget it if bloom doesn't drop...

After +1/+1 and Pulverizer Bloom is 25%/x4 vs Bone 35%/x3 which puts Bloom very slightly above for crit profile (15 extra hits vs 14). Damage wise Bloom is 17.5(5[d6])+7, Bone is 13.75(2.5[d10])+10, so barring accuracy and +[w] attacks Bloom also comes out slightly better, but offset by the extra damage you can get off shockwave and rockslide. Bloom otherwise carries imp para which is still somewhat useful.

Last, and worst of all, Bone is still bugged and doesn't accept sentience. If it did the gap may not be so wide.

*EDIT* Forgot some bonuses so the above is a little off, working on a spreadsheet myself now, might post again later if I find anything interesting.

The math almost convinces me to run ToEE on Epic, almost

Long quest, generally poor mob layout (large groups chain aggroing, STILL aggroing through walls etc), poor drop rates... like mentioned earlier I'll probably just hit it once for XP if at all, and waiting for Shadow will probably be faster.
