When do Night Revels candies expire?

I was looking at the list of items from Night Revels in preparation for the event, when I came across the candies(i.e. almond coated shadow apple, sweet cinnamon cloud, etc.) . According to their descriptions, they expire at the end of the year they are purchased. This makes them pretty worthless in my opinion. However, a friend of mind got some last year, and still uses them. Can someone clarify if this was a one time bug, or how it is supposed to work. Do they actually even expire? Thank you for clarifications.

They actually expire at the start of the next night revels, but I can't say that they might not decide to make them work as per the text.

It's also relevant that they are extremely easy to get, making it probably worth it even if it only lasts till the end of the year. But as has been said, so far they have been letting them run much longer than that.
