View Full Version : Having fun with Falconry Tree & Bird

I am just now using the tree & falcon "familiar" on an Aasimar.

Not having run with anyone using this, it was a new experience for me.

Although the attacks are limited in scope and potency, they are a cool addition.

In WW last night I got to see how this works. And I was quite surprised.

Approach mob, target the shaman or throwers in back while I attack the front line. Watching the animation and results is pretty cool.

Seeing the bird take out the kobolds was hilarious, and was more effective than half the hirelings attacks & dps, (not that one is needed in WW leet )

If they didnt kill on first attack, the trip, blind attacks were WAI.

I also noticed a second attack? Is this the Blind attempt? Is this correct? I had both enhancements toggling on; Diving Attack & Strike for the Eyes.

The cooldowns are done very nicely. Spot on in fact.

I'm sure at higher levels the attacks become less effective, but we''ll see how the synergies w/ Aasimar/Falconry/Ranger pan out.

Question, is the "assassinate" considered automatic? If Im drawing aggro sure, but what if Im not? No biggie, just curios.

The build Im on doesnt call for tier 4 or 5 attacks, but I might try them out at mid levels. And MAYBE R1, but Im sure in reaper these attacks lose a lot of potency.

SSG scores a 10 with this addition to the game, and I really hope it gets more options in the future.

Nice job SSG.

I'm just having my first go it the falcon tree too.

I find the delay very long between the hit and bird attack. I'm using a great crossbow (only mentioning this because it's slow to begin with) and the bird takes about 1.5 attacks time to hit after I hit. Seems very slow and in melee it would be more attacks delayed.

I haven't unlocked Falconry yet; does the CC work on Champions? If so, it seems like for an AA that's where the Bird Attacks would shine: stun a Champ, follow up with a special attack like Sniper Shot, rinse-repeat as necessary. At least that's the premise behind my build (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/117232-Request-a-Build-Get-a-Build/page184?p=6123231#post6123231) so I sure hope it works. :o

On leet, it was a 50/50 in WW. In Gwylan's R1 not so good, but minotaurs, hobgoblins trolls have better saves vs that attack?

What I was able to do was "gang up" on champs. As Cantor mentioned the attack delay is problematic, and needs to be shortened dramatically for this tactic to work efficiently.

The build Im on is the one you posted. As we discussed though the points are spread out and makes tier 4 & 5 very difficult to attain. The Killer Instinct might be helpful for this, but again, the Aasimar/AA/Falconry build is hurting for usable points.

Level 7, Wis is sitting at 30, w/ a few buffs maybe 34, so Im not sure where I should be at for optimal DC

I like the tactic idea, but that delay needs to be shortened or I wont bother with it because of the point sink.

I haven't unlocked Falconry yet;

It can be unlocked? I thought it was pay only as a part of the WPM cosmetics pack, with some vague mention of being able to be unlocked in game at some future time?

I suppose "I bought it" can be considered as unlocking, from a certain point of view... It's just not what I would call the typical meaning of the term. Drow, FvS, and Artificer can be unlocked. They can also be purchased.

Sounds fun - like what the Lantern Archon should have been instead of nerfed.

The Falcon attacks are all helpless CC, and the only one I've really tested (the blinding one) lands on anything in the game. This includes undead, golems, champions, orange-nameds, ghosts, and even oozes I believe. I originally just took the one attack for recharging Deadly Instinct, but the attacks are actually very worthwhile and my monk still lands them 90% of the time in epic Reaper 1 at-level.

Noticing a bug with the attacks not working at all.

I've tried turning the falcon on/off, and all other perm clickies, nothing.

What I am noticing is the height of the dungeon. Doorways (not always) that are preventing the attack.

My first thought is LoS, and the bird not seeing the target. not 100% sold on that though.
