Sev mentioned the weapons can be upgraded in the future:
The plan is to have future content where the weapons can be upgraded. While we want these weapons to ultimately be really good, we don't want a normal quest to drop weapons that are too good out of the gate.

Can the "Echo of Blackrazor" texture turned into an animated one? So the stars "float" through space on the sword?

We discussed it but decided not to do it due to performance concerns.

Cool as it would be, thanks from everyone who doesn't plan on swinging one for a while :P

aaawwwwww :(
oh well, thanks for the quick response.
*still hoping for an animated cosmetic skin, even if it's only animated on the owners pc*

Oh good Lord, that would have been SO cool!!
+1 for that idea!

Perfectly balanced...as all things should be.
Just kidding, I choose performance > aesthetics 100% of the time :D

Did you discuss a somewhat transparent version similar to the Spectral Dagger?

I think it could make Blackrazor more awesome visually to be still obviously black but slightly transparent with the stars still visible on the blade.
Alternatively, the Thunderforged blue-black shadow effect would go well on an upgraded Blackrazor.

Great idea! Would like to see this as an alternative to lyrecono's suggestion.

Nah. I don't like this idea very much. Blackrazor needs to be BLACK...with stars.

I meant for it to look as it does now (still black) with the roiling blue-black shadow special effect as the weapon aura.

I don't recall Blackrazor (or Stormbringer/Mournblade) ever being described as having any sort of a roiling aura like the Thunderforged weapons do. I think such an aura would get in the way of seeing the stars in the blade. I'm still a "no" on this idea.

That's fine. Aesthetics are very subjective. I happen to like visual effects, so really I'd be just as happy if they added more options to the store bought Glamered Weapon Aura such as the original pink chaos effect, and sunlight-looking lawful effect.

Would LOVE to see that Lawful effect glamer in the store, too!

How about a newly designed aura made of tiny twinkling stars that go on and off, floating around the black blade?

Nah. The stars have to either be ON the blade or look like they're IN the blade. That's why lyrecono's proposal and Aelonwy's first proposal were so good.
If you imagine the blade being an actual piece of a clear, moonless night sky, you should get the idea of what it should look like.

The blade in the painting that we based our Blackrazor on, the one in the book, is not transparent at all.

Doesn't mean you can't try out a few appearances before picking one, or letting players choose the one they want. I still miss my rainbow illusion Celestias. I'd kill to have a glamor of those. :(

I know. At the risk of sounding like a smart-ass, I will point out that descriptions of what Blackrazor looked like, as well as drawings of it, were published LONG before that painting in Tales From the Yawning Portal was published. If you like, I could probably scan those pages where Blackrazor's physical descriptions were given or quote them and then post them here.
To be clear, Whelm and Wave look really nice. The painting of them in Tales From the Yawning portal is pretty much how I imagined them to be despite the fact no real, detailed descriptions of those two weapons were ever really given in previous sources. Blackrazor was different, though. The descriptions of it in previous editions of WPM were always much more specific than those of Whelm and Wave. The painting got Blackrazor wrong and so did the SSG Art department.
lyrecono's proposal sounds exactly like my "piece of the night sky" description and Aelony's first proposal, while not perfect, was, at the very least, more interesting than what we got.
