Whats the worst/most annoying mob in ddo (totally not rigged poll)

The purple glass icky charisma draining quori critters in Von 2, the Inspired Quarter, and the Dreaming Dark chain. More annoying than plain old phase spiders as far as I'm concerned.

Kobolds. Nothing is worse than a Kobold !

PS. Phase Spiders ? Really ? They are cool. Actually, I'd like to have one of those as a real life pet.

They have the special ability of phasing too, and are spiders(Dream crawlers), so by all means: Phase spiders!

Kobold shamans.

phase spiders are cool, at least drop planar shards.
Kobold Shamans are horrible, they dance on kitten graves.

Back in the old days, scorpions were FAR deadly than phase spiders. With web DCs now high enough and black tentacles though, not sure either of them are too much of a problem with a warlock or wizard in the group.

Phase spiders, scorpions, vampires, a few other undead, basically any mob with a phasing or other mechanic that moves it in and out of being able to be targeted.

I'm not a fan of shadows, either.

Next would be dogs/wolves/cats/bears/anything that trips me.

It is obviously Rust Monsters!

Normal phase spiders aren't that bad. Red named phase spiders with a lot of HP and the usual boss immunities are terrible. I hope we never see a purple named one.

Overall I think mimics are worse though. The fact that they don't respect CC effects and continue moving around when danced/held/paralysed etc is super annoying. That was more widespread with it affecting other monster types for a while, but then it was fixed which makes me think mimics were deliberately excluded from whatever that fix was because that is just so hilarious.

Not a huge fan of scorpions that can burrow underground while paralysed either.

Thanks.

Howlers.

Hey, look, it's howlers! AWOOOOO bye like 1000 points of wisdom! Yay I'm helpless! Okay, whew, that's over, blow up the howlers, run to the door, open it . . . interrupted . . . open it . . . interrupted . . . OPEN THE **** DOOR . . . interrupted . . . FIFTY SECONDS OF THIS?! AND NOTHING TAKES IT DOWN?!?!?!?!?!? OMG***BBQ

Phase spiders have their moments, but I think all of these are worse:

levitating Kobold Shamans
Howlers
Chain-swinging rogues
Harpies
Hobgoblin witch doctors who know ray of enfeeblement or glitterdust and don't want you to forget it
Eyeballs
Arcane Oozes with a billion hit points
Wisps
Living Spells
Flameskulls
Abishai
Umber Hulks
Battleragers

Beholders and Air Elementals no longer make the cut.

Bats get an honorable mention for the high-pitched squeals and weirdly loud flapping that, like, follows you through the quest.

I still want them to do a raid where you walk in and it's just a big arena with a SINGLE. GIANT. BAT. the size of an airship.

Don't even joke about it. Just don't.

For a while I was pretty certain we'd be getting an endgame raid with a giant rat. But your suggestion is even worse so it's also better.

Thanks.

Kobolds by far. They're everywhere. And Rats. Can't see them anymore. These are lowest mobs that should not appear in quests above lvl5. Fishing hate 'em ...
Any else variety is welcome to kill and don't really makes me hate them.

I voted for the Orange Phase Spiders. Because I've yet to see one, so they must be doing their job...

Howlers.

184% agree. It's just such a lame mechanic, and poorly designed IMO; a literal stat check vs the number of enemies...

Phase spiders that would switch to champions when they phased back in were the worst!

Let's see:

1) Flameskulls
2) Whisps
3) Howlers
4) Gnoman
5) Ogre Maji
6) Validus

Other then that I can't really think of enemies I would really consider annoying.

Howlers because you can't stop their DoT and it's more annoying than I can say.

Bats because they're incredibly annoying to hit on a melee because they swoop back and forth so much.

Anything that disappears just as you're about to kill it. Phase Spiders/Scorpions/Ogre Magi/etc.

Aelonwy
07-03-2018, 02:38 PM
I have to agree with PB, howlers would be a whole lot less freaking annoying if you could remove the DoT that ticks after the fight with anything but as is they prevent me from using levers, doors, shrines, pretty much anything with a task bar. So the DoT is really just a time waster that makes me roll me eyes. Not a challenge and not how you want people feeling about the game. And its beyond aggravating if one of the DoTs gets that bug where it sticks until you relog.

Qhualor
07-03-2018, 03:54 PM
Didn't Lynnabell make a change to Howler DoTs like a year ago to make them less annoying?

GramercyRiff
07-03-2018, 04:00 PM
If Lynnabel did, it didn't work because those Howlers in that one Wheloon quest lol also that one bad RL quest.

Any archer that hits you with hamstring. Worst debuff in the game by far.

It's worse than Howler helplessness because at least there you can move at full speed. I'd rather be dead than slowed serious. When you're dead you can at least move at full speed in the spirit world!

Worst mob in DDO? Obviously the forum trolls.

Followed by zergers.
Then come the phase spiders.
(There is also something in Invitation to dinner that should be in there but the trauma induced amnesia has blocked it all out except for the memory of a couple of black blobs lurching through the dark room and then it all fades to black until I wake up in korthos.)

glmfw1
07-04-2018, 02:00 PM
Phasing I don't mind too much - a bit annoying on the targetting front. Scorpions I don't mind too much (other than in Claw of Vulkoor where one goes underground and gets healed by another underground one just when I'm about to kill it).
Ogre Magi, Blue Abishai, Gargoyles and Light Bearer Champs I don't mind too much... just assume, when you see them, that the fight will be twice as long as it should be.
As a non-caster I hated Flameskulls, Wisps and Eyeballs. Now I am a caster with light spells, Magic Missile Resistance and Elemental Resistance... I actively seek them out and make them DIE (as painfully as possible - because they deserve it).

Phase spiders are annoying but.....

Death Swarms in the Dreaming Dark just make my screen freeze. I mean a level 30 with full gear should be able to dominate a 20 quest on elite, but the lag inducing Death Swarm gets me every time.

Now if they ever make a phasing death swarm.....I quit!

And now we will have, thanks to a comedic misunderstanding in the dev team, a raid where we have to destroy a giant baseball bat, piece by piece.

My most hated enemies are those abashai in the U28 quests, particularly on heroic elite. They die easily enough, but on heroic elite there are enough of them that do enough damage that they can alpha strike for about 1200-2000 elemental damage in about a second and a half, meaning a lot of stupid instant deaths if you don't have evasion or great saves and resistances. That, and they represent my personal pitchfork target, clustered mobs and crazy damage output making heroic elite quests much harder than they ought to be because the quests, which are balanced for epic/legendary, seem to have a heroic version tacked on without regard for what normal, non reincarnation-treadmill characters can feasibly handle without building one of the two or three ways that make the fight trivially easy (in this case, evasion or crazy elemental resistances).

Absolutely.

The bat must also be a deep red in color and radiate an Anarchic field of some sort where Law (magic from Lawful sources, Paladin powers, etc.) is hindered and Chaos (magic from Chaotic sources, Bard songs, Barbarian rages, etc.) is enhanced.

The bat should also be a carrier of very large reddish-colored spider-like ticks that jump off it and when they attach themselves to you, they cause diseases and do other things like siphon off any spell points you might have at a dangerous rate!

The hill giant 'mini' boss in the first Stormhorns quest. HOW MUCH HP DOES HE NEED?!

The bane of every SP-based damager, just because the raw amount of SP required to bring him down by any means other than shiradi-cheese for them is absurd.

The worst enemy is the winter wolf. I've never seen a winter wolf appear and felt scared. I know it's going to do that stupid side jump thing a few times before maybe trying to do a cold breath. It doesn't live past the stupid jumping and snail slow attack rate.

tafla421
07-05-2018, 11:48 PM
how about all those mindless monsters that should be attacking anything that moves, slimes *cough, only attacking player characters? if memory serves me right there is only like two quests where slimes are fighting other monsters. I think one is hiding in plain sight, and the other is in house k where all the monsters are stuffed in breakables(I believe I have seen the bugbears attacking slimes but I cant remember). if a slime or ooze can path to a monster it should be just as likely to attack them as us. as a matter of fact since you like to put slimes in the middle of groups of monsters the slime should already be fighting the monsters long before any of them notice the players. next on the list is epic level rats and bats. seriously how much recent content is filled with epic rats and bats. its not a mob that is worth bragging about fighting. IRL or in role playing. I mean who has a friend that would want to join a game when you tell them 30~40% of the high level mobs you are going to fight are rats and bats. and not like crazy demonic rats that look like arraetrikos had to much to drink and had some questionable relations with a pretty female rat, we just get high level sewer rats. seriously the epic versions of quests need to have epic monsters to fight, don't just add a bunch of hp to a rat and say nailed it. oh and lets not forget room full of monsters packed shoulder to shoulder, who when aggroed causes the next room full of monsters packed shoulder to shoulder to aggro because of broken mechanics.

The mechanic itself is annoying, but what makes it 1000x worse is the buggy nonsensical way it works. Spiders, scorpions, and spectres all do it...they'll phase in then immediately disappear again before you can hit, then stay phased for ten seconds or more. They should have a 1 sec cd on the phase action when they unphase to give you an actual chance to hit, and a max phased duration of 4s before it forces them back. The mechanic should make you pay attention, not force you to just sit idle waiting for them to reappear.
