View Full Version : Expansion Question

I have 35 slots and 41 characters, 6 that are locked. They were unlocked when I had VIP, I will probably get that back later, but am considering to get expansions that permanently add character slots.

I only see 2 at the moment, Shadowfell gives 3 slots with its 49.99$ pack, and adds some more stuff to this with a check out offer- not sure how much the additional cost comes to. I have most of the stuff on that pack, but the tombs of learning and skill buff per character make it worth it to me anyways. 2000 points on top of this doesn't hurt.

The other is the Ravenloft pack, which I don't have any of, so I am thinking to top it at 130$ price for full gain before I start buying little bits, causing its value to decline should I purchase it. It gives 1 slot and a lot of other nice things, like Ravenloft :P

So it looks like 4 slots is the limit, unless that upgraded Shadowfell gives more then 3 slots, but it didn't look like it did. 39 slots, jumping to 45 should I go VIP. That lock out thing is extremely annoying honestly, it makes me not want to get VIP because it feels like a hook, I'd rather delete anything hooky like even if I do take VIP, that I might lose should it vanish.

VIP is at its best when it is giving things that are not hookishly baited like that. A 5% speed boost is perfect! A 5% or 10% exp gain makes sense. A give out that is taken back does not make sense. Here are these extra "things" that.. are now locked! Lame way! Here is an extra service that you receive, this is the reason I go VIP in the first place. Opening quests on elite right away on new toons is another service making it glow. The gold roll adds a nice touch, along with the DDO points. I think they could add to its servicability more to make it shinier and more attractive to spend on.

Bring the speed up 5% percent in public areas and cut the time between gold rolls in half and it will be a lot more enticing. The only hookish thing is those 6 toons, I do not see it giving and taking anything else like that.

Is there a way to go beyond 39/"45" slots? If I purchase those packs I will have 39 slots without VIP... I was hoping to reach for 40 and avoid the extra 6 that lack that solid reliable luster I prefer from things I like to think I own or that are somehow mine. I don't like the rent a toon feeling from the extras. I can ax one of my toons, bringing it to a nice rounded 40.

But is 40 possible or is it at moment 39 and I gotta wait til the next pack comes?

Whoa -- You've got 40+ toons and no expansions? And I thought I had issues with alts and mules, lol.

First off, assuming a bunch of them are mules, have you considered opening an alt account, dual boxing it for Coin Lords favor, and using the extra 100 slots per character from that? It might cut down on your character needs without costing anything.

If that’s not attractive to you (and assuming you can’t buy any more slots from the store) then IMO your best bet would be Collector’s Edition Shadowfell (2000 points, 3 slots, a bunch of iconic/skill tomes) which is $50 but will go on sale soon for like $12 or something & Collector’s edition of Ravenloft (Possibly the worst value pack ever released, but includes a single character slot) which is $80 but has gone on sale for $64 and likely will drop much lower in the next month or two. That’s +4 slots for $130. Keep in mind you could get 26 characters on an alt account for less than that, and they can store anything that isn’t BtA/BtC (and even some BtC items, if you use ASAH). Until then though, AFAIK you’re stuck at 39.

Can I ask what you do with that many characters? If it’s just bank space you’re after, you could delete some, roll some iconic (I recommend BF Air Savant if you have BF), and crush some Coin Lords/Kundarak favor really quickly.

I have all the material from shadowfell and menace, but those extra slots, tombs, etc look good.

I have 41 toons on my main server, gonna ax one of them to make it a clean 40 and let the other 5 stay locked until I buy shadowfell. Then only 2 will be locked. After that I will get the over priced pack, since I am actually getting its full value at least because I own none of its material already.

DDO is an old game, I intend to play it as long as it is around. Hopefully it is preserved in game history as one of the greats and in a way it never shuts down. 50 years from now I will still be playing, even after I make a game 1000 times better (if my plans succeed) I will still log into my toons and play this game. I am not solely concerned about challenge or obsessed with being best. I enjoy collection and variety and ACCESS to the things I own. Very very important to me is to have access to what is mine, otherwise I do not consider it truly mine. I am wise enough to avoid enjoying what is rented.

I do not play them with any urgency or sense they have to be maxed out right away. I have so much fun with them I have decided to stop deleting toons like I used to (got so many up to level 20 only to delete them) and finalize my permanent collection. 40 is not enough!

I have 5 toons on every other server and they do NOT get neglected, they are part of my permanent collection. 40+35. I promised never to let the collection go above 100. One of the nice things about this collection, is there are no repeats at all. Every toon feels unique in its own way but still customized to my personal preference. How many MMORPGs can boast that many variations on character play?

I avoid investing too much interest in any thing I do, but also like to avoid having no interest at all. One leads to dissapointment, the other total boredom.

39. I can wait till a pack brings this up. I have so many things occupying my interest that patience comes very easy to me.

None, as far as I can tell! I think that's one of the main reasons people stick around :P That's a lot of characters... I've probably started as many but lost interest and just deleted and remade them, but I understand the permanent collection aspect, lol. And I definitely envy your storage space for BtA items. Like I said, if I were you and not in a rush I would definitely wait for the RL pack to go on sale, especially if the main draw is the character slot. They're supposed to be having a sale in a few months and sometimes for expansions that means 50% off or more. Also the $80 pack (the one that comes with a character slot) comes with a month of VIP too, so you might use that to decide which characters you want active.
