I was DYING to see what Wave, Whelm, and Blackrazor looked like so I logged into Lamannia to see. Here's what I found:

Wave

Awesome. Well done!

Whelm

VERY nice. Great job!

Blackrazor

Ugh. Green stars??? What am I wielding? A blade made with Lucky Charms??

Seriously...MOST of the stars in Blackrazor should be white. I could see a few being yellow, blue, or even red. Green? No. There are NO truly green stars.

Also, the blade looks too substantial. Someone (Aelonwy?) in another thread suggested it should look similar to the new bluish-purple daggers from the Mabar event. Change the color from bluish-purple to pitch-black and include a bunch of white stars "floating" in the blade.

How about any other visuals you like or hate?

Post 'em here!

Gotta say I really like the look of Wave & Whelm though. Excellent job, designers :)

I wish I could get Blackrazor in all black, but while there's something to be said about green stars I highly doubt I'll ever notice in-game so I don't know that I mind. A galaxy would be cool though :D To me it just looks like someone threw glitter at it while the paint was still wet.

Well there is no green stars in our world cause that's how heat works according to our laws of physics. Although a green flame can be produced chemically, these chemicals aren't naturally in our stars. Maybe they are in the DnD universe?

Agreed!

A galaxy in the blade is a GREAT idea!

The overall design of Blackrazor is fantastic. I love it.

I can agree that some tweaks to the appearance would benefit it.

But the shape of the blade as well as the pommel, quillions and hilt are freaking rad.

I really dig Wave as well. Whelm is just ok.

Green is the color most commonly associated with evil or eldritch magic, so I think it's entirely appropriate. Also, I like green. Also, also, Luke's lightsaber!

At first I was like "Whatchu talkin about willis?!"

Then I copied your image into an editor and zoomed in. I found 5 tiny specks that were either greenish or had a slightly green tint to their glow. All the rest were white or red.

I'm not bothered by this. Heck, our very own sun actually produces more green light than any other color, but the combination of all those colors (despite the uneven distribution of them) makes it appear white to our eyes most of the time. However, if you catch the sun at the right angle, you can in fact see it's green light. This is called the Green Flash.

I think blackrazor looks awesome.

edit: Here is a time-lapse image of the sun (our local star) taken in the far north... the angle to the earth's atmosphere changes allowing different wavelengths to take precedence over the combined effect of them all:

Seems like green is a natural occurrence.

I like the Blackrazor visual personally. I wouldn't complain if it were a darker black though. The others are nice too.

Seems like green is a natural occurrence.

Blackrazor is showing stars like they appear in the blackest of night (thus the pure black blade), not how our star (sun) appears in our sky.

To wit, the description of Blackrazor's appearance in the original module S2: White Plume Mountain is the following:

"It is a black sword that shines like a piece of night sky filled with stars,..."

I thought Wave is reminiscent of a Trident by Poseidon as an exquisite weapon engraved with images of waves, shells, and sea creatures; And you must worship a god of the sea to attune to this weapon?

And isn't this more the wavy and shelly version?

Whoa! I like them all! I want a scepter version of the staff and a dagger version of the sword!

Edit: The sword would probably look better with a translucent blade.

Looks good to me! The description says "*like* a night sky filled with stars." I don't think that means the exact color profile of visible stars on earth, it's just a bit of imagery.

Considering that the "stars" aren't necessarily, you know, stars in any D&D cosmology . . .

In Eberron, for instance, the "stars" are bits of the Progenitor dragon Siberys.

In the interest of full disclosure, here's what the 5th Edition versions look like for the White Plume Mountain weapons contained in the WotC publication "Tales of the Yawning Portal."

The DDO weapons are pretty close.

They all look great but if I'm going to be critical the blackrazor is the most lackluster, I'd like it to be blacker with less nebula/galaxies.

The differences I see are:
Wave, concept art has more metallic colors on its head.
Whelm, the hammer head is darker.

Wow. Very nice.

For lammania previews when it is active is everything full disclosure at this point or are previews/discussions meant to be restricted to the lammania forums? Personally I like seeing the previews - I just do not know what the policy was. I was thinking of logging into lammania myself if it is still up.

Do you know if these 3 weapons were given new item icons?

As far as I know, once something hits Lammania its open to the public for discussion. They prefer that discussion to be funneled to the Lammania forums because its easier for them to keep up with the feedback that way.

You mean you'd like to see the in-game version with MORE nebula/galaxies than the art posted a few posts above?

I agree it is currently a bit lackluster.

Definitely dig Wave, but Slave Masters' is still my fave. Whelm looks cool but I'd stick with Hammer of the Leaden Clouds. I'm kind of partial to partial effects and weird shiny details, though. Love the hilt detail on Blackrazor -- if it was semi-translucent but with stars throughout it would look a lot cooler IMO.

The various platinum weapons and the orb have a purple sparkly effect that looks pretty cool.

The armors clearly aren't rigged yet and just look like bad copies of Ravenloft armor currently.

OMG! They are ... are ... PERFECT !!!! they are the same as in the manual of the 5th edition! a big applause to SSG for making these weapons so glorious in DDO!
