View Full Version : Finding out what I currently 'own'

Circumstances are forcing me to drop down from VIP to F2P for a while. I last did this a few years ago, definitely after MotU and I think also after the Shadowfell expansions.
When I last did this, I made sure that I stockpiled enough Turbine points (as they were called then) to buy everything and several extra character slots.

Is there any way to find out what I actually have bought (character slots/shared bank/quests/races/classes), and what I need to get to have everything (friends bought me the Ravenloft expansion as an Xmas pressie, so that's covered). As a VIP you tend to lose track of what new races/character classes you would need to pay for. And I would like to know how many character slots I would have so I can move the storage toons contents around so I can keep access to it (mainly for the crafted and named items obviously).

I still have about a month of my year long VIP subscription to run, so I have a little time to sort things out - if I can; it may end up just being a big surprise on the day I drop to being f2p again...

Thanks

PS: I am well aware that I 'own' nothing in DDO, I have paid for access to SSG's intellectual property and for the storage of my progress through their game; but it would be nice to know how much of that progress I would still have access to :-)

They're called DDO Points (aka "DP") now, but we know whatcha mean. ;)

Not an elegant way, unfortunately.

If you open the store (ctl+s, or just click the link from the character selection screen), it will show you what you do NOT own*. If you compare that to a list of "everything"** - there you go. So go to races, and you'll see what you still need, etc. etc.

(* Unfortunately, it actually shows what you can buy, not "what you don't own". So, while you're still VIP, since you have access to everything... yeah, not helpful.)

(** I"m a strong advocate of free alt accounts, esp for F2P/Premium. Create a free account (you can use a similar account name and identical password if you want), and use that as compare/contrast.)

The other way is to see what you actually have bought - open the Store and, from your account name (top right corner), use the drop-down menu and select "History". You can then scroll thru every transaction you've made - the purchases will stand out. Again, not very elegant (and having some scratch paper is handy), but easily doable.

And I would like to know how many character slots I would have...
Easy - below the character selection screen, bottom right, is a comment "Characters: # of #" - e.g. "9 of 10". Right there.

The main thing is to make sure any characters you want access to are TR'd to a race /class you own - otherwise you have to buy those right away. If you remember your VIP start date it's probably the easiest way to guestimate by going back and seeing what's been released since then and potentially what was released shortly before if you purchased vip to avoid buying those.

Over time it's easy enough to earn tp to get everything back, especially with July sales starting soon. The main thing is trying to prepare by tr'ing out of pay to play classes/races unless you plan to buy those first.

First off, search your email account linked to DDO to see what you have purchased in the past.

Everyone starts with 3 character slots, then gets another 2 I believe for being premium. Depending on what editions of MoTU you have, you probably got another 2 or more slots. Then it just comes down to what your purchased on your own.

Spot on that it's easy to check what you don't own.

For the quoted part, if he hasn't dropped VIP yet, I think what he really wants to know is how many he will lose. It does no good to look before VIP runs out and see 20 slots, if you don't know how many are blocked after it expires. The number depends a lot on what you have bought, luckily the change doesn't.

If I'm not mistaken: everyone should have at least 5 (4 premium and 1 for gnome release), you get 3 (4) for shadowfell (preorder) to cover the included iconics. I think vip is 10 base (11 for gnome),

after verifying on wiki: you can assume you are losing 6 slots.

As others have said, there isn't a very good way to tell while you are still VIP. The game does not allow VIPs to purchase content they already have access to, so unless it came in a bundle like the expansions you probably don't own it.

You CAN purchase additional character slots, however, that is irrelevant. VIPs get +6 character slots over premiums, any slots you've previously purchased will remain, so you will lose 6 slots. No more, no less.

Checking history, either in game or via email, is probably your best bet to know now. Though I would probably just wait and see when you drop to Premium. It's also a smart idea to TR to a more basic class/race, or a race/class you KNOW you have access to, such as an iconic that may have come from an expansion purchase.

Losing 6 character slots is fine - I have lots of bank toons - 6 for random loot, 5 for named loot, 2 for specifically arti stuff, 1 just for consumables, 1 just for the stuff from the slavers expansion, and a few others, so if I consolidate stuff and delete 6 of my current army of alts, does that mean (assuming they aren't of race/class combinations that I don't own), that I'll be able to keep all the rest?

Aaand it looks like a trawl through account/emails can be started to see what quest packages I'll be getting over time.

Thanks for the tips!

They don't even go away if you lose slots. You choose which ones you want to keep access to, the remaining ones are there but you can't use them unless you buy more slots. If you want to consolidate and delete them, that does mean you won't have annoying blocked characters. If you have 6 free slots, you should have access to all non-race/class restricted characters.

Derp, of course. <smh>

Folk are referring to this...

The second line, "Initial character slots per server", is the relevant one here - anything gained outside that initial number is kept, np.

Make SURE you go over your bank toons with a fine-tooth comb, and either move anything valuable, or at least make notes somewhere of what you have and where it is (and possibly consolidate as much as possible!). If not, 99.9% certain you'll want something from one of the mules, but not remember which one has it!

Speaking of items, your biggest early expenditure will be replacing your Shared Bank. (And at 1495 DP, even just 20% off is a YUGE savings (299 DP) - ymmv whether the wait (until July???) is worth it.) The good news here is that items will be available there as "withdraw only" (sim to a TR cache), and if you bought upgrades, those will be immediately available once you buy the base Shared Bank.

With some quibble room, common wisdom is:

1) Menace of Underdark + Shadowfell (and consider one of the upgraded editions, for more bang for your RL buck) - "need" these for Epic play. (And check additional quest packs granted via upgraded versions so you don't double-buy). On Sale several(?) times/year.

(1.5) Here, VIP's will also add Ravenloft (another RL cash purchase), but imo mainly b/c it's new and so extremely popular atm, not anything you "must have" to play the game. Great loot, good writing and mood, fun quests.)

2) in some order - Vault of Night, Gianthold, Vale of Twilight - these get you through "low" spots in F2P xp (Heroic and Epic) - the order you buy these may depend on the level of your characters.

3) Three-Barrel Cove (xp and fun), Delera's (for VoM etc.), Sands of Menechtuan (XP, esp Epic farming), Necro 3 and/or 4 (for xp, necklace, Orchard) - good fun, good xp, nice loot. Not as key as the above, but right behind them.

4) then - ymmv. Lots of choices, lots of personal preferences after the above. Some players want specific loot, some want alternatives to F2P chains, some want Favor, some Sagas - lots of variables

Here are some threads that cover that topic:

I definitely have MotU and everything that came before it ( so points 2 and 3 covered), as I said, I went f2p before when finances crashed and burned. I have ravenloft, I think I have shadowfell, but not 100% on that one. I also have all the challenges.
I don't have newer stuff like dragonborn race, the tethyr mine set, the angel series and updated shroud, not 100% certain on warlock class or the gnome race. I think (!) I have paid for the shared bank, but maybe I haven't got the base, just bought expansion slots - that will be a PITA to lose.
Everything has a work around to keep playing. I haven't put a lot of effort yet into looking at the consequences (do I need to spend plat now before a cap is lowered? simple to check, I just haven't yet) - I was just worried about losing access to half my toons and was wondering if there was a mechanism to work out what exactly I was short of - doesn't seem like there is. No worries. I'll have time between the World Cup games to put some effort in...

Only F2P has a plat cap, Prem is the same as VIP, so no worries there.

But, yeah, you should look into all that. Link above to wiki "account comparisons".

If you're worried about having too many bank toons, you can always run some Kundarak favor to get a larger personal bank for each. I don't normally on my bank toons, but it can come in very handy if you're going to be losing character slots.

good news on epic shroud, not a separate pack. So you have it assuming you had the regular.

the shared bank would be a big goal for me in that situation, with upgrades to 180, buying the base would be a must.

I'd also favor unlock harper tree if you haven't already, as druid's and highroad are not must haves (except for sagas) and haunted halls is epic only with tradable gear.

If you had everything pre-U14 and the expansions then you have all the big exp stuff. You are looking for fun and gear.

Some specific gear that has held it's worth that I would get before vip expires if you can:
U27/28
epic and heroic versions of divine artillary / fatal flaw / riftmaker / rod of mythant. heroic version of scraps of enlightenment. epic version of bleeding edge and maybe slice/dice. Neither of these chains would be on my must buy, but these items are very nice for certain builds.

You probably want to buy slavelords if you don't already have what you need from there.

Gnomeworks is free and still has several top pieces.

Pick gear from most recent 2 packs after that.
