View Full Version : BTC Stuff without BTC Space

There is lots and lots of BTC stuff in the game. I would like to be able to hoard ALL of it.
Are inventory updates dead? I would love to have a special BTC bank where I can keep all of my things when I am not using them.
Please either fix our BTC space... or change a bunch of stuff (IE: EVERYTHING) to be BTA instead.

or you could feed the old not ever going to be used items to your sentient gem(s) to save bank space.
(you know about character bank space that can store BTC items right, and get more through house Kundarak favor, right?)

Been there, done that.
Yes, I know about House K favor. :) I have purchased all of the character bank space available. I need more.
Ideally, I would 5-10x more space than I do currently for BTC stuffs. But then, maybe I have more than most?

I think the only way to solve your hoarding hobby is character housing... as in LOTRO or UO. You better start petition for that...

I don't care what form it takes. We need a better inventory system.

Dev's hate hoarders as been shown by their lack of interest in helping players maintain our inventories of collected treasure.
Inventory management is another lacking area of development as seen by all our haphazard storage mediums and lackluster interface tools..
They have the capability to give a decent interface as shown by the Auction House interface, they just choose not to implement that frontend onto the player storage systems..
Instead we get a different variation of storage with a different neutered interface and poor sorting/filtering systems.
Auction house -
~has categories
~has sub categories
~ has search sort filter options
~has level range filter options
~has large capacity
~would make a great base template for all the storage interfaces.
Shared bank -
~a page tab system that puts the item deposited and puts it in the last slot of the last page that has to be manually flipped through to get at.. waste of [explative] time and mouse clicks.
meanwhile the oldest stuff sitting in the shared deposit bag is the first thing we load and see every time we open the bank.
~a simplistic search/filter tool was eventually added
currently caps at 220 slots. with combinations of base, favor, store purchases, expansion purchases.
Bag deposit box -
~The bag deposit box is supposed to be the destination for all the characters items on an account.. not a transfer point to move stuff to a packmules bag..
~Bags hold bigger stacks than the bag deposit box so you end up with multiple stacks in the bag deposit box that would be 1 stack in a bag...
~Once you exceed 1,000 items(stacks) you can no longer see how big the storage level is since the text is pushed out of the viewable range of the display box
~Storage stack sizes are based on inventory stack sizes resulting in multiple messy stacks of items.. creating a cluster[expletive]
~poor sort/filter system.. has the same simplistic search as the shared bank and item descriptions are poorly implemented to be useful in this filtering system.
~similar issues to shared bank.. only 10x the tabs to manually click through to get to the end.
~Bag deposit box should have 10x the stack size of the biggest possible bag stack before rolling into another stack...
~ and way better search/sort/filter interface tools.. I should be able to filter items by pack.. shroud, ravenolft, slavers, s/s/s by pack... etc....
Bags.
~basic simplistic search.
~collectible bag has subcategories.. other bags don't.
~bag sizes are inconsistent.. probably by design to force players to store buy bags.. looking at you augment bag and the dev choice to add filigrees to the augment bag with its inferior capacity.
Hireling Folders..
WT[expletive]... small one can only carry 2 different hirelings..
Cosmetic Storage..
there isn't any.. and many cosmetics are BTC ..
TR Cache..
nuff said..
Guild chests..
Storage amenity with 3 upgrades to place multiple small chests with poor capacity/search/sort/filtering..
have to go through each chest individually and manually search. and remember where the amenity is placed on the boat..
Cargo hold storage chest
there is a small and large storage chest.. butt even then... meh.. limited small capacity..
Cant fill the cargo hold with multiple storage chests(its the same chest).. can do multiple test dummies...
What I would like to see is a large capacity storage medium with a good management interface..
Basically a personalized account based Auction house with exceptionally large capacity and all the management tools to search/sort/filter items..
A true centralized storage area accessible by all my toons across my account where I can store all my items including all the TR cache items into a pooled vault storage location.
That I can then serach sort filter by a plethora of options.. like the AH interface provides...

I'm quite sure that inventory and item management could be much better in DDO but three relatively small changes would make it already a lot better for me.
1. Almost all Bound To Character items could be Bound to Account. For example, I see no reason why items from raids are Bound To Character.
2. The shared bank could be much bigger, I don't want to use characters as "mules" to store items, I just want a big account bank where I can store and search all my items.
3. Please remove the True Reincarnation Cache from the game. Simply leave the additional space you got from Coin Lords and Kundarak favor after a True Reincarnation and give us the option to buy more space. It is each time very annoying to search items in the True Reincarnation cache and to have the need to empty it each time you True Reincarnate.

I could get down with these. I think #1 was to encourage people to pass raid items and/or to have to run the raid on the toon they wanted said item for. This is all negated (IMO) by the rune system (which is better than the old system BTW). Given how discouraged alt play is by the current state of the game (IE: exponential grind), this would be a nice change for multiple reasons.
2. I can also get down with. FWIW... storage is on sale currently. I don't mind paying for features... but it really feels like we're being nickle and dimed for a storage solution which is incomplete.
3. I don't really like. Get rid of the TR cache, sure. Maybe have items simply overfill the backpack if you're carrying too much? If BTC items were BTA, or if there were a solution for BTC stuffs, then you wouldn't need the TR Cache. Maybe flag the inventory slots gained via favor rewards and force a character to empty those before a TR (if the overflow option causes bugs?).
Looking at all of the crafting storage we get access to... why can't the other banks work the same way at the same price? I think players who have purchased all the shared bank space 10 slots at a time are due some type of in-game compensation in exchange for a inventory system that actually works well.

If the rune system didn't quite kill it, sentient weapons finished it off.

You need... almost 3000 BtC item slots per character?
Hoarders: Stormreach Edition. Are you trying to keep one of every possible combination of Greensteel Aeapons or something?

For people that don't want to invest in alts but want to play whatever class strikes them during different lives, you would have to hold all that gear for all those different lives and classes over 30 levels. That's a lot of stuff.
Edit: Plus all the consumables, which add up significantly. Plus cosmetics, which are mostly BTC and handed out to us to drive us crazy despite us asking for BTA cosmetics. Plus perma-hirelings. Plus anything else I'm forgetting, and not counting stuff that fits in the shared bank.

I mostly use cannith crafted gear, its BTA and I can make whatever I need for the given class I am in. Most of the BTC named items are not worth keeping to me, so I feed it to sentient jewels. Makes space much easier to work with. Have my BTC items pared down to the point that they fit in bank spaces once I have the favor ones unlocked, cuts down immensely on the amount of stuff I have to find room for.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m a hoarder too (you don’t want to open my TR cache), that just struck me as a bit excessive. I’d buy more bag slots and probably more bank slots, but the majority of gear now is BtA. Maybe I could come up with 100 BtC must-haves (although plenty of them take weeks or months of grind) but 3000 would be pretty difficult. I’m not sure I’ll ever need 12 of each non-exclusive raid item on a single character. Honestly, the lack of filters and organization for item storage is bad enough as it is anyway.

I have long advocated for a "Storage Update" with House Kundarak themed quests and an overhaul to storage that vastly increases Vault capacity while adding tabs and proper sorting.
Acquiring a treasure hoard serves as one of the fundamental pillars of fantasy role playing games. DDO, better than most, offers a vast array of interesting and useful items to collect. The current trend makes many of those items Bound to Character. Why offer all those items, encouraging us to play to collect, then ruthlessly restrict character storage capacity, discouraging us from playing to collect?
To be clear, I have no desire for more character backpack space. (When playing on my current computer, I notice lag when by character bags get too full or the game needs to access my Gargantuan type sub-bags.) I have no need for some complicated new storage medium like "Player Housing". (I would rather that magnitude of effort go into a system for permanent followers.) I want more vault space. I want hundreds of units more vault space. I do NOT want to create an army of banking characters. They would not help with all the Bound to Character items, anyway.

Personally I am sick of the BtA items. I dislike BtC too.
I would love to see named items return to "original" form.
Named items should not be BTC unless the developers consider them "pinnacle*" items (for their level). Only items coded below recommended level should be BtA.
Everything else should be Unbound (or BTCoE at worse). This would help keep content relevant for all players and allow the community to actually openly trade.
* - "pinnacle" would be described as Raid Loot (in most cases) and gear not designed as "progression" gear.

If any of the devs would play the game, had different toons, doing PLs, farming and grinding for items and mats that needs to be banked, it would take less than a week and we would have more inventory space with an intelligent System.

I'm a staunch proponent of more BtC storage space, and have been for a decade.
I have 3 goals on DDO:
1) 3 of every possible past life on my main - COMPLETE
2) Collect ALL shards, seals and scrolls for the old epic items. (I'll be in the Desert forever...)
3) Collect ALL raid loot in the game.
Most of the raid loot is BtC and there is no other way to store it besides the bank and inventory. I am to the point now that I have more raid loot than spots available. I will be FORCED to destroy/sell items in order to TR again (if they add another class/race, or to change builds, etc.)
I'll gladly pay for this. I'd pay a character slot as part of the cost, if need-be (SSG wins twice here, because I already paid for that slot, plus paying for the inv. space.)

Just throwing in another vote for doing something about this issue. Personally, I'd prefer that it not involve buying more space in the DDO store, since that's no help for alts that aren't played often enough to justify buying every bag and bank tab already available, but … whatever. Doing something would be better than doing nothing.

I store most of my BtC gear in the bank space that you get that's attached to your sentient weapon. I drag my BtC gear that I'm not going to use for a few lives into my sentient weapon and now I have free space!
In a few lives, I'll go looking for whatever I need to click on to get access to that gear...

I'm totally for adding more and more options to 'store' BtC items. If someone wants to keep something they should. To that end SSG just needs to add more purchasable storage.
However, keep in mind SSG needs to ask itself the question of the costs - how much does it cost them to store the data as well as how much performance this storage could hinder to the core of the game.
I actually disagree that we should not have BtC or even BtA items. They serve a purpose. Some based on their power, some to get people to actually participate in content and some to help foster an environment of community spirit.

or you could feed the old not ever going to be used items to your sentient gem(s) to save bank space.
But then, someday they might become useful again!
When Vistani came out, I decided to convert my TWF rapier guy into a Vistani TWF dagger guy... Scouring through all my alts, I was actually very pleased to find that I already owned most of the named daggers in the game, even though I hadn't used them in years, since usually named rapiers in the same level range were better.
I absolutely would like to see more bank and inventory space.
My big suggestion would be to make each character bank (and shared bank) look like the Auction House, with a sub-section for every single type of item, and just sell us a ton of space.

I would be fine with this, if there were an option to have the gem regurgitate the item later. Sadly, this is not the case.
I would also be fine with a trophy case, similar to the Monster Manual, for raid gear. Collect it once, move on. But this would mean more people collecting raid gear, and less stuff for roll/trade. Of course, it would also mean more people running raids, so it's probably still a net win.

Fixed and /Signed this alone would solve the issue IMHO. There are very few reason to make ANY times BTC over BTA.. i honestly can't think of ONE.. other than maybe favor rewards. Just do away with BTC of any kind except BTCoE. since those items can still be transfered PRIOR to equipping. BTC made senes before the massive grind of 4 different reincarnation systems since getting loot was the end game grind back when cap was 10 or 20. Now there's so much grind that Loot grinding EACH character doesn't need to even exist. There is more than enough Past Life Grinds and reaper grinds that the old MMO loot grind model can be reduced by making items BTA rather than BTC.

I'm much in favor of BTA over BTC, but BTC lets the devs hand out one expendable item to each character on an account without worrying that everyone will transfer 38 +20 hearts of wood, raider's reward boxes, or whatever to their main from alts. Without BTC we'd get 1 per account instead of 1 per character from now on.
Still think BTC cosmetics and such are one of the worst ideas I've ever seen in a game, and I'd love to be able to store all gear on alts during different lives, but BTC does sometimes serve a purpose.

Yes, The DEVS created a new character bank that used the shared bank interface because the tabbed personal bank is at the max it is capable of supporting (no new tabs can be added to the current bank according to the DEVS.)
The new character bank would be able to be increased to the max the O/S or database engine could support and wouldn't be limited to the graphics size of the tabbed bank UI.
It was rolled out on Lamannia (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/484623-Lamannia-Update-35-Release-Notes) but was vehemently opposed by a vocal minority that had their bank organized and arranged by tabs and the DEVS scrapped the idea.
They have announced no further work on the character bank since.

I would pay for that upgrade.
People are afraid of change, but people will adapt. No one is going to quit because the bank UI changed. It will take them a bit to get used to, then they will probably prefer the new layout.
SSG. please do this ASAP.

In my opinion framing, the solution to Bank Storage as 'fixed quantity tabs' versus 'gigantic unsorted list' is a false dilemma argument.
The developers at Standing Stone already solved the DDO storage problem in a much more elegant and user friendly way...in The Lord of the Rings Online. Bring that exact same solution to DDO.
