(Say): Basthuul says, ''You're starting to get on my nerves, prepare to be destroyed, pithy mortals.''
I always knew my brief but wise sayings were my worst characteristic.

Well, he is hanging out in a library.
What kind of books could he have been reading?

Eberron--come for the conquest, stay for the proverbs and aphorisms.

You can't just verbify an adjective like that!

Exactly! "To unfriend" is the opposite of "to befriend". Nouns can be easily and understandable verbified, but it just doesn't work like that for adjectives. Thank you for demonstrating, Hobgoblin, you're a true friend.

Disrespect.
It came, it went, it's back. Language is a growing, changing thing. You understood what was meant, get over it.

The funniest part of this is that I'm not entirely sure what it was SUPPOSED to be. It's like the writer averaged "puny", "****y", and "pitiful" and wound up with a word that means nothing like that at all.

From a google search:
1. (of language or style) concise and forcefully expressive.
or
2. (of a fruit or plant) containing much pith.
Since number 1 makes no sense, I'm going with number 2. Don't even try and tell me otherwise. :p ;)

well since he is taller, you could say that he is saying the party is short and/or forceful as they are hitting him.......
its a stretch but maybe? :)

The "forceful" part is kind of misleading. When something is pithy, it packs *a lot* of expression into a small package.
Like this:

You COULD say "I believe you are shortsighted and trying to apply limitations to me that I don't accept."
but "Challenge Accepted" says more, faster, and more effectively.

I'm going to pretend that the writer thought pithy was a nonsense word and not an actual word. It does seem like pithy would be in a Lewis Carroll poem. And a demon named Basthuul should definitely use nonsense words.

#2. It is the soft part of the plant so the demon was calling him soft. These demons are ancient and hence have a good sense for the nuances of the language, perhaps even using aniquated forms. But they should keep that in mind when trying to offend.
Many of you did not know this, but I can attest personally to their use of Thee and Thou when you know them more intimately.
