Hello,

I am looking for a newbie friendly Artificer build. I would like to focus on casting and ranged. I did see some builds but they were all looked like they were for advanced players who had multiple lives already. I am VIP so have access to any race that VIPs get. I have been playing less then a week now so do not have any tomes or special stuff etc.

Thank you

Artificer is a pretty simple class to play, really.

Now, since you're on your first life, you might not have as high spell DCs as somebody that's been playing for ages, so concentrating on things that don't require a save is a pretty nice idea.

If you plan on soloing a lot, Warforged is your go-to race. It enables reliable self-healing better than taking the corresponding feat line and starts off at level 1.
If you instead want to group up with random people, human or drow should be your main objectives.

Drow in particular is awesome if you're not fully tomed yet as it grants you bonuses to Search and Spot as well as a bonus to Intelligence, all of which will help you find traps. Another advantage for newer players that aren't familiar with the game yet is Nothing Is Hidden, which searches for traps for you before you know they're there, as long as you have enough Spot and Search to back it up.

You'll want to spend quite a few points in Harper, enough to get to add your Intelligence to damage and to hit. Intelligence should be your highest stat at all times.

This is pretty much it for lower level stuff. You also have to concentrate on whether you'd prefer being a full-on caster or a crossbow-toting artificer (there's rumors out there about Melee artificers - for your own good, ignore them until you're familiar with artificers as a whole). Both of those will eventually want Quicken Spell, but the rest of the feats is entirely dependent on that first choice.

Thank you. I went with Warforged as I do not have Drow yet. Been playing around with it this afternoon and its been fun. I really like the crossbow and its going well so far.

You'll have drow soon enough for free via Total Favor (http://ddowiki.com/page/Total_Favor#Total_Favor).

Haunt the Auction House and find yourself a Vorpal Repeater (pref Heavy, but Light works just fine too). Preferred suffixes are "Vorpal of... " Deception/Tendon Slice/Feeding/Doubleshot.

Thank you for the advice and the welcome :) She is level 4 now and doing good. Only had trouble with one quest so far and that was not really a class issue as much as just figuring out how not to kill the one mob in the zone you are not suppose to kill more then 5 of lol.

Ive not found a guild yet but I made one just to mess around with the levels and such.

I see you are on Khyber. I will try to see what I can dig up to send you.

My arti life is at 19 atm, and I tend to AH everything once I use it but I may have some odds and ends that you can use as you level.

Thank you. I have been absent the last few days due to a death in the family. Will be around again this weekend.

Stealthy Repossession can be a real challenge for anyone who either cannot 1) Stealth at a high level, or 2) Tank (i.e. ignore damage). Trying to DPS your way through is tough (and requires precise targeting, and no AoE), but it can be done too.

The DDO Wiki is a great place for quest information, for general overview, tips, and walkthroughs of complex maps/objectives: http://ddowiki.com/page/Stealthy_Repossession

I created a guild to mess around with as I had not found one yet. Is there a way I can add my alts to it myself? I have not picked a "main" character yet as I am still trying out classes. I do want to eventually find a guild with my main once I pick one so I can play with others.

One of your alts is the "leader" of the Guild. If they go to any mailbox, you can send a Guild Invite to any alt whose name you know - just type it in, and send it off. Then log out from the Leader and back in on the alt, open the mail, accept the invite - done.

(Be sure you get the spelling right - don't want one sent to a stranger.) :o

I have not picked a "main" character yet as I am still trying out classes.
Classes are one metric, but I feel basic "playstyle" is more important. A melee fighter is a melee fighter whether they are Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Monk, Cleric, or a Wizard w/ a great axe and a baaad attitude. Sim w/ Ranged, or Caster - those are the big 3 distinctions (tho' some might put instakill builds like some casters (or assassin?) in separate categories - and Warlock blasters are diff yet again). But once you know which of those you like, you can go from there.

You can further break it down into Sword and Board, Swashbuckler "single weapon" (only-ish), 2-hand, 2-weapon - and sim w/ various Ranged, and less so w/ Caster styles, but the idea is the same.

Other bells and whistles will vary w/ diff classes, certainly - but a 2-weapon fighting style is the same w/ any class(es) so long as the Feats are the same and you have "some good enhancements" to back it up.

I am both also - I have my own small guild, and am a member of a bigger "real" one w/ my main.

Thank you C-Dog.

As far as classes so far I have tried a druid, Wizard, Artificer and today I made a monk. I do tend to favor casters and healers over melee but the monk looked interesting. I still want to make a cleric and maybe try a bard. I am pretty happy with the wizard and the artificer so far though I made the artificer a warforged and I really do not like the character model lol but the class I like. The monk is confusing but fun so far. I am leaning towards the wizard as favorite so far.

I did find the invite thing for the guild listed in the rewards. Need to be level 5 so will work on that. So far guild is level 3. Thank you for the link about guilds.
