View Full Version : My Discovery: The Secret to getting the Cold/Fire Resist 1 & 3 recipes

Earlier, I saw a thread where people were having more success getting lower level recipes between for scoring less than 400, mid recipes for 400-800, and high recipes at 800+

Well, I still kept getting the 3rd & 4th tier recipes at 100-300 motes where I just ran across the finish line. I decided instead to wait until the time ran out, only picking up 1-10 motes. Well, now I'm getting those recipes nearly 100% of the time.

Happy Hunting!

Just pop into the Eveningstar Cavern once you score at least one mote.

Ayup. I mentioned it in the Chronicle tread.

I usually spend most of the event trying to get high scores, then switch to flub runs at the very end.

Next year, I plan on having 6 accounts with L20+ characters. That will give me lots of spare tokens for flub runs. :)

Yeah I just don't understand this thread, I tend to just skip this event.

what on earth (or what ever plane) is a flub?

Many Cosmetic Items (not those created with a Mirror or Glamering) accept Festival Fire Resistance and Festival Cold Resistance. These provide 10 points of Fire Resistance or Cold Resistance that stack with other sources. So, if you place 10 points of Festival Fire Resistance on your Cosmetic Hat and 10 points of Festival Cold Resistance on your Cosmetic Armor, you have those resistances forever from L1 to L30. :)

"Flub" means to mess up, screw up, botch, or otherwise fail at something. When I make a "Flub Run" I intentionally get a very low score on the Midwinter Ice Skating Course.

I invent new words and phrases regularly because I am a crazy bubblehead. :D

OK sounds fair. OK well as I don't have cosmetics (ohh I do have some from Mabar event if this counts).
Still I guess this event just does not fire me up......

*whispers* It is a pretty boring event.

You can actually slot a Cosmetic Helm and Cosmetic Armour but keep them toggled off if they look dumb. The extra resistances are helpful at low levels but certainly not necessary.

Festival Icy Burst on low level Random Loot weapons is also fairly useful. Everyone seems to put it on their Keen/Impact/Vorpal stuff.

Eh, I had no luck for getting +1 fire/cold resistance on about 20 runs of less than 15 motes, but I was able to pick up the +1 fire on the AH so I now have some nice cosmetic armor. Don't forget to put alchemical armor onto whatever cosmetics you like to get that additional +1 armor bonus.

If you have cosmetic goggles (like the Mountaineer's Goggles or the Storm Horn Specs or the various Glowing Eyes) I think you can put the Resistance bonus on them.

EDIT: Hmm, maybe not.

I know you can put the festival ritual and alchemical armor on cosmetic helmets; I have cold 7 on my vampire hunter's hat (I wasn't sure if you could put both cold and fire on the same item). If you're talking about the Alchemical Resistance ritual, I don't believe it works on cosmetics (Perhaps some way the cosmetic goggles are typed? I think they technically function as helmets, as the options are cosmetic headgear and cosmetic armor, but I haven't done any testing at all.). Does that stack with other Resistance bonuses? The wiki indicates that it's a competence bonus and wouldn't stack.
Edit: Competence bonuses are totally different than the default resistance bonuses and I'm too tired to think clearly.

Personally hate the events.
Second, wonder if this is a bug or WAI?
If it is WAI, guess I may have to participate just for stacking Fire/Ice resists.

My Gnome Arty is wearing these witha green and purple outfit. It's not 10 yet, because I ran out of Motes. It's 720 Motes for the 10 upgrade.

For fun I made a bunch of examples for this thread:

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/493637-Which-cosmetics-accept-Midwinter-Festival-resistances

Basically it's legit on Cosmetics, but not Glamoured Cosmetics.

The resists stack very nicely.

"Flub" is an old word - well, several/many decades, anyway. But a legit word (if perhaps "slang") in English, so you didn't invent this one. ;)

Usually used in the context of "I flubbed the test" = failed it, or "He flubbed his lines" (in acting) = got the all wrong.
