Please post any 3 tips or tricks be it for new(er) or not so new players. Max 3 though to let more people into the fun of sharing.

Here are 3 tips from me:
- The Bracers of the Wind are great for getting Blur on any character from level 3. http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Bracers_of_Wind
- You can get a rez cake cheap each life from this quest: http://ddowiki.com/page/Vintage_Old_Sully%27s_Grog
- The level 1 hireling Byron Scoutsword will happily kill anything in the first quests on elite for you if need be http://m.ddowiki.com/page/Jevan_Solidus

Please share :)

-Don't be too disheartened about not having the bleeding edge of DCs on spells; target appropriately and you'll still be in with a good chance of it hitting, eg. for big brute enemies don't target their fortitude saves, use a will or reflex based spell instead.
-At low levels in particular, ranged attacks can be very strong since you can combine effects on both the weapon & the ammo; +1 holy arrows/bolts only require minimal levels in cannith crafting & not much ingredients to make.
-Don't just hoard consumables, actually remember to use them when necessary, they can often make the difference

and a bonus tip; to make your life more sci-fi, instead of turning on the lights, engage the photon emitters

* Ctrl + leftclick on a shop item like ingredients to buy stacks of them instead of 1 at a time
* Coin Lord favour gets you more bag space on your character - to see how much you have hit 'P' and the Patrons tab. And on the Adventures tab you can hit the word 'Patron' and sort quests to see which ones you have left to do. Same with House Kundarak favour for more bank space on your character.
* If you ever have a spell and you drag it from your character sheet to your hotbar, and then when you go to use it it brings up a selector of more than 1 spells, you can drag each of those spells from the selector individually to the hotbar. So for example the Resist Energy spell - you can drag that to a hotbar, then click on it, then drag Fire, Cold, Acid, Electric and Sonic to five different spots on your hotbars for easy single click use later.

To split a stack of items, hold CTRL and drag the stack. It will then ask you how many items to move.

If you have a spell on your hotbar that can be effected by metamagics, you can right click on the spell to select to always use the metamagic feat, even if the metamagic feat itself is turned off.

If you sold an item to a vendor (not a pawn broker) or destroyed it by dragging it out of your inventory and selecting yes, you can typically buy it back from the buy back menu at most vendors. This works well if you want to loot an exclusive item, but are already carrying one. But keep in mind: the buy back menu will only hold on to so many items, and only for so long before they are gone for good.

You can get a free 30 slot ingredients bag from the 12 favor patron in the tower of the 12, no favor needed. The bag is unbound, but exclusive. That means you can only have 1 in your inventory at a time, but you can have as many as you want in your bank. Smaller free ingredients, gem, and collectibles bags are available for free from various quest givers in the harbor.

Shadar kai get a free, unbound stack of +5 thieves tools when they reach level 15. Caster-based iconics (when they hit 15) and veteran status casters get free, unbound spell components for all their spell levels. Some vet status gear is bta.

There are many useful ways of getting around quickly in ddo. Try to familiarize yourself with all of the places a teleport spell (or scroll), teleport gate, and your airship can get you. On top of those, you can strategically choose your spirit binder (even on your airship) and /death to get there, log into the eberron or eveningstar hall of heroes (passport is free to VIPs and iconics), leave the hall of heroes to various locations in eveningstar or to the locations of events like risia, use the various planescallers in hall of heroes or on your airship, and ask your airship navigator to send you to many exotic quest and explorer areas.

Today from the Midwinter Festival I added stacking resists and used the Stone of Change on my cosmetics:

Also from the Risia Ice Games you can make Icy Burst kits. I made these today as well:

Sometimes you can sell the nice loot gen witha Red Augment Slot that you Icy Burst on the Shard Exchange. I may specialize in xbows, but I've sold other types of weapons for Shards too.

EDIT~ I ran out of mats on the xbow in the screen shot above. I need 5/20 to finish and make Icy Burst.

Go into your settings and change the color of Mini-Bosses (default is Orange) to another color to make it easier to distinguish from Bosses (Red). I prefer a light blue.

Go to the keybind settings in your options and find the "Assist" option, hotkey that. It makes it easier in tough fights to see what someone else is focused on so you can eliminate a target more quickly. Also useful for healers to see who is tanking.

Use Push-To-Talk feature, nobody wants to hear you chew, eat, burp, whatever.

-You can press Ctrl= to lock or unlock your hotbars so that you don't accidentally drag icons off of the bar in the middle of combat.

-You can assign key mappings to your hotbar slots in the options menu, so you can press keys on your keyboard instead of clicking icons on your hotbar.

-Potions of Heroism for an extra +2 to all skills, this can be useful if your rogue's trapping skills arn't quite high enough.

I do the same thing, but it amuses me to make my mini-bosses pink.

Buy a quiver from the hammer and chain in the harbor even if you don't use a missile weapon. Having it on auto-gather will help keep those annoying arrows/bolts out of your inventory to a limited degree (if you pick them up).

Don't auto-gather on your green bags; sort your tokens/totems/dragonscales/slavers mats manually and you'll never have to sort through 6 different green bags to figure out that you have 3 different incomplete stacks of thunder forge ingots. Stack Remnants and Cannith essences in your inventory or crafting storage instead of in bags; they'll stack higher.

Invest in use magic device on all characters if you plan to run reaper mode; this means putting max skill points, keeping the best cha item you can find and farming a http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Golden_Cartouche. Then buy scrolls of raise dead and scrolls of teleport.

A cheapo returning throwing weapon should be a part of everyone's standard kit, even if you aren't proficient. They are too useful for breaking explosive barrels and hitting remote switches without expending arrows or spellpoints.

Pick the right weapon for the job. Blunt for skeletons. Slashing for zombies. Good for devils. Glass or Handwraps or Everbright for Oozes. Watch for the yellow damage notation above a monster's head, it means you could probably be using a better weapon to kill it (the big exception being NPC barbarians and large or larger elementals, who have unbreakable damage reduction).

If it looks like a trap or an ambush....it is probably both a trap and an ambush.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. 99% of players are more than willing to help out a new (or not so new) player, but very few can read minds :)

Check out the favor rewards! There are several nice things you can get simply by doing quests such as Drow, Favored Soul, and more!

See if you can find a like-minded guild. It's a great way to meet people to quest/hang out with, and enjoy the buffs that come with it.

1. When you collect your end reward from the Mayor in Korthos for the Sacrifices quest, take the Anger's Step boots that show up. You get 2 clickies of 5-minute Expeditious Retreat. This give you 25% increase in movement speed. This is better than you'll find on any current random loot gen or crafted gear until much higher levels. 10 minutes of 25% fast speed should get you through most quests and you get the 2 clickies back if you rest at a shrine. DO THIS!

2. If you are a caster, drag your spell components to a toolbar. The toolbar will show the quantity you have left. Never run out in the middle of a quest again.

3. Cleric Hireling Healers can be very annoying. Here are some tips to work-around their AI limitations
a. Bind a key that "calls the cleric to you". Essentially you probably want to "park" them and call them when needed so they don't die in traps or being stupid in fights.
b. However, after you call them to you and they instantly teleport to you, they will be on "cool down" for 5 seconds <AND> after the 5 seconds are up they will be "brain dead", SO
c. Bind keys for both "Attack" and "Defend". When they are "brain dead", you can "fix" them by toggling them from attack to defend, or vice versa.
You want the keys bound to specific key presses because trying to click on the toolbars in the midst of a fight will get you killed.

You can change the color of your D20 in the UI Options section, as well as customize a lot of other options. This isn't game breaking, but it's just fun to be able to do. I like to match D20s to different characters. I don't think I've used the default since launch.

The level 11 Fighter hireling, Mikayl the Pious can cast Dimension Door. This is surprisingly useful.

Being self-sufficient is always good. Try to always have a few Cure potions, along with Blindness Removal, Curse Removal, and Lesser Restoration potions on you. Not huge stacks are needed - just a few can make a quest go a lot smoother. Each of these potions are sold by Jalin Kalabrey in the Marketplace.

BONUS TIP! If you are new, be patient. Give yourself time to learn the game, and it's idiosyncrasies. The game is wonderful and fun and full of great things... but there is a learning curve. There will be some times when you don't know what you are doing, or why. But, it all will click. When it does, this really becomes the best MMO on the market.

1) Take 1 step forward when you zone into a quest, lets everyone know you're ready for buffs.

2) Always carry a returning dart/hammer/ axe whatever. Anything ranged that only takes up 1 inventory space.

3) ALWAYS ask when in a pug to invite your favorite hireling.

1. Bind yourself to the 12 near the Airship (and Mired with Kobolds) - it's by far the best and closest place to be revived in

2. User /Death for fast teleports

3. /Death in a bar wont hurt your items

1.) Low-level melee should make use of a free tactical feat called trip, it works wonders.

2.) /stuck is a life-saver for getting jammed up in places where you cannot move, it also has the added benefit of teleporting you back to a previous location, so it can be helpful in certain quests (like getting back to the top of Tempests Spine)

3.) Repetition is the best way to get comfortable in both your play style and learning mechanics. So don’t be afraid to run the same quests and maybe try something different.

1. The Bunny Hat cosmetic has a hidden effect of +3 UMD(competence) when wielding a scroll.
2. You can leave yourself logged in for extended periods of time by hitting quit and leaving the Yes/No option up. (only works 1x per login as 2nd time will instantly quit)
3. You can bind to your airship if you have the Banquet Hall hold room.

I really hope this is a sarcastic and fun post. Because in truth no one should do any of these things.
Although, Clicking the part 4 portal in shroud has to be done by somebody.

I just want to point out that the second part of this statement isn't accurate. You can get a 30% striding item at level 1. It isn't easy, but possible.

The Black Abbot upgraded quiver of alacrity http://ddowiki.com/page/Quiver_of_Alacrity gives 30% striding and 10% ranged alacrity at level 1.

1. Strafe left/right when moving towards archers and casters, in order to avoid their arrows, fireballs, and arrows tipped with fireballs.

2. Don't bother with the +1 stat tomes you get in Heroic sagas if you intend on doing Epic sagas (which give +3)

3. The 'Q', 'E', and 'R' keys are excellent candidates for hotkey reassignment. I use 'Q' and 'E' for stuff like Cleave or solid damage SLAs, which enters my attack rotation pretty often. I use 'R' for bigger attacks I use often, but selectively (ex. Lay Waste). "Backspace" is then your key for selecting nearby items.

4. Bonus: CTRL+Z will hide/show your UI. If you like to toggle this often, consider remapping it simply to 'Z'.

1. at low levels, healing items are better then weapons/armor

2. jumping is a great tactic. you can jump mobs, some traps and get shortcuts

3. dont be afraid to die. if you die, go to your combat tab and see what killed you and plan ways to avoid that - ie fire resist ogre stomp etc

4. group. see how people do things. see what works for them and adapt it for you

For Healers: Go to like, Bar 9 or Bar 10, something you'll never use. Put these spells in spots 1-0, respectively. Cure Light Wounds, Cure Moderate Wounds, Cure Serious Wounds, Heal, Mass Cure Light Wounds, Mass Cure Moderate Wounds, Mass Cure Serious Wounds, Mass Heal. Add them as you get them if you're playing heroic. Then go to key mapping, and set Bar9, 1-0 as CTRL+1-0. Thus, pressing CTRL+1 gives you Cure Light Wounds, CTRL+5 gives you Heal, CTRL+0 Mass Heal, etc. Make sure to change your key mapping to where SHIFT+f1-12 selects the characters themselves and not their pets, as the default is set.

This allows you to shield block, cast offensive spells out the wazoo without having to worry about being able to quickly access your heals, then for a quick healing spell you just press the f-key associated with that party member (even when blocking) and then press CTRL+1-0 depending on which heal you want to throw at them. One of my favorites is to have Diving Punishment set to 5 on my main combat bar, and I'll just be tapping 5 to hit the DP over and over then slip to CTRL+5 when I need a heal.

I don't agree with this one.

Q is mapped to "select next non-combat target", which is necessary to do many times, even if you are using the mouse because you can't click on them correctly.

E is mapped to 'interact", I use it all the time to talk to NPC's. Again, double right clicking just doesn't do it for me - I am in mouse look mode most of the time

R is mapped to auto-run. I use this all the time to not have to continually press the W key to move forward

1. This Shop, Erstwhile Emporium in House P, will sell you Medium collectible and gem bags! Note: These are exclusive, meaning you can only carry one of each at a time.
https://i.imgur.com/dx0UKgL.png

2. The ranger spell "camouflage" will remove the cosmetic effects of Stoneskin and barkskin - you payed to have that nice looking armour, you want to see it!

3. In reaper, the "Unyielding sovereignty" ability will heal you up to full, despite the innate self-healing penalties of reaper. It also clears death penalty. Divine classes get this as a LV 6 feat (with 10 minute cool-down) if they follow the sovereign host, and clerics get an identical version from the RS tree (with 5 minute cool-down). The 2 versions operate on their own cool-downs.

4. (Bonus) Casting Stone/barkskin on summons, like elementals and bearded devils, can have some neat looking results.

Ya, it is needed sometimes. I've trained myself to move my right hand from the mouse over to the "backspace" key in order to select stuff; I'll update my post to include that.

Auto-run is indeed useful. I've relocated that over to 'J'.

After commenting on a couple of others, here are mine:

1) There are 20 different hot bars, and you can move them individually around the screen. When you first start, there is one bar, and that bar has arrow keys you can use to move them. If you click the arrow to the left that is pointing up and to the right, it will extract that specific bar. You can then move it around individually, including rotating it from horizontal to vertical at any time by clicking the circular arrow.

2) Once you get your hotbars in a place you like them, you can store the layout for retrieval later. This can save you during TR/LR or when you create a new toon. It doesn't store what is on the hotbars, or their orientation, just location. To save the layout enter: /ui layout save <filename>. To load it enter /ui layout load <filename>

3) All kinds of things can be put on hotbars: spells, scrolls, stances, epic past lives, feats that are activatable, potions, skills (i.e. search and disable device) and even equipment. For example, you could put your current boots, with Spiked Boots so you can quickly swap to Spiked Boots when slipping, and back when not.

(Bonus) Every location on every hotbar is key-mappable (word?), meaning that you can map every location to a key if you want. I have all my numpad numbers mapped to a hotbar that has all the buffs needed at the beginning of quests, The "Insert, home, page up, etc" keys mapped to a hotbar that has healing items on it, even Ctrl+Shift+1 (to 9) mapped to a hotbar with my pots on it for quick access. I can do most things I need without having to find it on the hotbar with the mouse.

Yep, you could do that. I just like being able to go into a room, use my mouse to look around, and span 'Q' to find things. Or run over collectibles and span 'Q','E' to pick it up without stopping.

YMMV

1) The Clothing Pawn Broker on the Guild Ship Amenitiy Three Finger Thad's sells low lvl clickies close to 40% of the time. For example you can get Protection against Evil, Jump, Divine Favor, Grease, Expeditious Retreat, Shield fairly often and if you are really really lucky you get an Invisibility clicky. The vendor resets the offers every 5 minutes if no one is on the ship.
See also http://ddowiki.com/page/Clicky

2) For low lvl adventures and esepcially for casters you can get +4 ability pots from the potion vendor in the marketplace. +4 on your main ability at lvl 1-5 is very powerful. For new players it can be very costly but it is worth the plat. And if you ask nicely I am sure some established players will help you out with some plat. (If you are lucky and on Orien you get a 'Welcome to Orien'-Mail' with an attachment of useful potions from a Bard namend Rubbel.)

3) There is a low lvl quest just very few people know because there is no quest giver anymore and it is only avaiable once to characters up to lvl 4. If you arrive at the harbor from Korthos you can help out some refugees by talking to a corrupt guard at the start of the pier and convince him to let them pass. http://ddowiki.com/page/Refugee_Toll

Today from the Midwinter Festival I added stacking resists and used the Stone of Change on my cosmetics:

I don't understand why the winter altar of risia won't take by silver hat (from ddo store -- just like your green I assume) nor even a fire crown diadem (purchased from remnants). I was able to use stone of change on the silver hat, but can't craft the festival cold on it. How did u get your green hat on there???

Ok answered my own question: only the crafting guy in Evening Star does that, not the altar in the harbor.

Backspace to select and U to use is a big one to get used to. From snagging remnants on the fly to doors, portals, collectables and grabbing others soul stones that they are standing on. Get used to it and use it.

Ctrl+s opens DDO store

On a related note, pressing the up arrow while the input field is selected will actually bring you through your history, allowing you to repeat something like that with (perhaps) even more ease! I should probobly train myself to use this more often.

Fake facts:
1. Typing "cd" will teleport you to your bind point.

2. "vi" Will let you use the old enhancement system.

3. "rm -rf *" will delete the server you're playing on. Please use with caution.

I found it even easier to drag the button for those windows onto a hotbar that I stick at the top of the screen where it's out of the way but still accessible. A hotkey is for something you need to access quickly on the fly...how often does that apply to your enhancement window?

my 3 tips for anyone new are as follows:

be prepaired to die, death is a learning curve we all have to enjoy.

ask, ask and ask more. there is never a stupid question so dont be afraid to ask.

if you cant do a certain difficulty then drop down till you can, there is no shame in running
hard or normal if you cant do elite/reaper.

Bonus Bonus Tip for new(er) players:
Be prepared for folks like the player quoted below. The ones who think it's funny to give bad, or purposely harmful, "advice". Every game has it's fair share of jackasses, and DDO isn't different in that regard. It will likely happen in-game as well. Just ignore them, keep having fun, and learn the game. Every server has Guilds that are welcoming and helpful to new folks. Join one. They're a very good way to find your feet, and a great way to find actual help - as opposed to the example below.

1. to get an extra chest in part 4 of heroic shroud make sure you click the very center of the portal when going to part 5
2. to see the total amount of times your character has died across all their lives type /death count

I think you make less sound. (yes, you are trying to run while sneaking unless you do this) I bind it to a mouse button.

When running graymoon/CO6 use ddoor when advancing the quest. After you talk to the NPC to advance the quest use ddoor and Teleport right back to the beginning of the quest making your run only halfway

Expediate retreat scrolls can be bought at level 1 last 5 minutes and increase run speed by 25 percent.

Buy a teleport rod from the ddo store and use it to go to the portable hole and bind there you can purchase potions and scrolls makes life a lot easier. You can never have enough cure serious potions cure disease potions cure cursed potions cure blinds potions and lesser restoration potions cure poison potions in your inventory.

I would really like this mechanic if it does work as stated.

I have no idea about it being helpful for sneaking, however. Never tried it. But... I'm gonna and see if it works.

1. It's your character, so build it the way you want... pick the classes/enhancements/feats/skills that you think make sense for you. Read descriptions in advance and think what makes sense for how you want to play.

2. Learn from the things you do well and do badly with your build. Make the same choices again if you want to, change things if it works for you. Accept that sometimes you have to sacrifice one capability in order to be able to do something else well. Find workarounds for build limitations (equipment, hirelings, friends, tactics) if there is no way to avoid those limitations.

3. Have fun with whatever you do, or there is little point doing it. If a certain difficulty/quest/challenge is doable but not fun, don't do it - there will be another option available... Too easy to be fun, get someone to open it on a harder difficulty if you can't yourself, or skip and do something at a higher level. Too hard to be fun, pick a lower difficulty or try something else first. Hugely annoying... skip it or find someone who REALLY enjoys it and will let you pike to get through it OR team up with a friend/friends and enjoy making fun of how annoying it is.

1. Bind yourself to the 12 near the Airship (and Mired with Kobolds) - it's by far the best and closest place to be revived in

I have heard many people say this, but noone says why. Why is this better than being bound on your airship, or is this just relevant if you aren't yet in a guild with the banquet hall? Surely a Guild ship with the amenities positioned in the right way is more convenient than the Twelve?

1) Character Bio is a handy place to put useful things you don't use frequently, but don't want to forget. I.E. ui layout command for TRing, puzzle solutions for popular quests, etc.

2) There are some decent DDO puzzle apps if you have trouble with them.

3) Try to plan you builds classed and feats ahead of time. Swapping them later can be time consuming and expensive.

Tired of accidentally accessing the expanded focus orb, XP Report, and your Character sheet while playing? Set those to Alt+Z, X, and C respectively. Then things you want quick access to on Z, X, and C. For melees for instance I keep action boost on Z so I can hit it really quickly. For Epic Healer I like to keep Renewal there. Play with it how you like. It's still really easy to access the XP Report and Character sheet by keyboard when you need to, and gives you more fast-reaction keys to use.

1. Use TeamSpeak/Discord within your static group/guild - DDO ingame voice is awfully poor [and the GameSpy compression method is over decade old], also you can hear your mates while not in their party or contact each other when game crashes for any of you.
2. Barovian taverns have option to exit to Eveningstar - if your Key is on cooldown and you don't have passport nor finished LoD chain you can always use that trick to get to e-star.
3. Review reward list for weapons that have specific metal type (adamantine, silver etc) AND red slot - those blanked are extra expensive on AH/ASAH. Same for jewelry/clothing with green slots.

my 3 tips for anyone new are as follows:

be prepaired to die, death is a learning curve we all have to enjoy.

ask, ask and ask more. there is never a stupid question so dont be afraid to ask.

if you cant do a certain difficulty then drop down till you can, there is no shame in running
hard or normal if you cant do elite/reaper.

your friend sil :)

um only the shame of people joining your quest and then leaving because you screwing up there bb..................

Use DDO Wiki it basically answers all of the questions you were afraid to ask !

http://ddowiki.com/page/Favor -- E.G. This explains all about favour. 1750 pts gets you a +2 tome of your choice etc. To get max. favour you play quests on elite. However level does not effect favour. So you can play a lvl 1 quest as a level 10 character on elite very quickly. Maybe worth it if favour rewards will help you. Just note you will not get any XP doing it this way.

XP - There are tons of really good guides on the Forums about how to get xp quick. I know some are desperate to see their character become lvl 30 in a week if so these guides are for you.
https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/468883-Current-fastest-TR-leveling - Check out posts from Unbongwah - extremely knowledgeable especially on builds.

Play a warlock. If you want an easy ride to levelling fast with little thought involved they are the perfect class. Check forums for choice of ways to go. Ok a little sarcastic but if you are going for xp / favour and want a quick run they make it easy.

Personally I think new players should slow down / savour it all and stop worrying about levelling etc but I get more questions over these two things than anything else from new people hence my two pennies !

1) Take 1 step forward when you zone into a quest, lets everyone know you're ready for buffs.
While generally true, do NOT do this in the raids Hound of Xoriat and Vision of Destruction.

1. Bind yourself to the 12 near the Airship (and Mired with Kobolds) - it's by far the best and closest place to be revived in
And if you are in a guild with an airship, go look for the banquet hall and bind yourself to the airship.

Don't forget about no-pants tuesday.

Don't forget about no-pants tuesday.

Is this no US-pants or no UK-pants?
Am I meant to be going around with my legs bare or commando? Or both?

Default your Chat to Party

Right click on all of your tabs and set the outgoing chat to Party. Never again publish Party business in General.

Remain Airborne

If you are a spellcaster (or archer) caught in close proximity to your enemies, jump and move. Your enemies will attack the spot at which you were last on the ground. Keep jumping and moving to avoid most melee damage.

Avoid Arrows

Use the A and D keys to "shimmy" back and forth while shooting archers. Most of their arrows will miss because the archers try to predict where you'll be, and you are unpredictable. Serpentine! Serpentine! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC0keDGobck)
