View Full Version : Disposible Iconic Purple Coin Jumper

Disposible Iconic Purple Coin Jumper:
- Shadar-Kai (rogue 1) - for Shadow Jaunt (similar to abundant step)
- 2 levels of Barbarian for Sprint boost, and extra action boosts
- 12 levels in whatever, could be an arcane for nice self buffs.
- Arcane Buffs are not really required, jump pots + either ship buffs or Phiarlan Pendant of time are sufficient.

From top of Leaky Dinghy, aim for the purple coin, hit sprint boost, run/jump, hit Shadow Jaunt, profit.
Trade your Purple Coin near the rink, or keep it for later.
Take hidded teleporter below/behind Skates Rental guy.
Wait for 1 minute cooldown for Shadow Jaunt at the top of the harbor. This is important because the coin respawns in 1 min if you are away, and 3 minutes if you are right next to it (watched pot and all).
Jump back over to the Leaky Dinghy and repeat.

Better off with 12 levels of monk. Higher move speed and abundant step then spend enough enhancements to get some passive Ki regen. Then you can alternate between using the Shadar-Kai and Monk leaps while they recharge, don't have to sit around waiting nearly so much.

12 Monk may be better than an Arcane, though the 1-min timer on Shadow Jaunt lines up nicely with the 1-min timer on the coin respawning. If you miss a jump, another leap option would be nice.

Actually, Monk is not an option due to alignment, if you want the Barbarian sprint boosts, cannot be lawful.

Simple enough, 2 levels of ranger instead, sprint boost is a multiselector in tempest

Then you don't get extra action boosts.

So alternative is rog 1 / barb 2 / sorc 12 for Wind Dance. Added bonus: Jump +30 spells.

What's the min lvl req on Empowered Jaunt, 16? Dunno if it would be worth gaining one level just to be able to add it, but it's an option.

Sorc would be a good choice for the Air Leap, and all of the buffs.
Level 16 gets the 30 second cooldown on Shadow Jaunt, but since the coin respawns at the exact same time as the base Shadow Jaunt (1-min), it is only really useful if you are missing jumps, or you are on a server with multiple harbor instances (is that even possible anymore?).

Do you have to stay away from the water for the entire minute, or do you just have to teleport the once to reset the timer?

I personally would have trouble waiting a minute each time. Better for me would be to do some blue farming during that minute wait, so I'd probably teleport to the market to get back to the blue farm more quickly, then teleport to the next purple when the minute is up.

Thinking this through, the blue farm is also very close to where the hidden teleporter is described as being, so you don't technically need the teleport spell. In a perfect world we'd be using shadow jaunt in order to have the cooldown visible on a hotbar. Further testing is warranted, I think.

What is the absolute minimum required to reduce the purple coin cooldown to 1 minute?

EllisDee37

Shadar-kai is good for shadow jaunt, but if you take 5 rogue levels you also get Vault (with a quarterstaff equipped) which is the same thing with only a 15-second cooldown.

It's trivially easy to reach 40 jump with 18 trained ranks +16 cannith crafted regular jump (dirt cheap, low level) and then 6 more ranks from strength mod. Go with 18 base strength, starter gear includes a +4 strength belt, done and done.

You'll also want high swim to get to the teleporter quickly, so go heavy on strength anyway, and a regular swim RING (not belt or boots) is also super cheap and low level to cannith craft.

Both jump and swim costs the same ingredients: 15 sweet whitecaps and 5 small wooden idols.

EDIT: Note that if you farm out 150 house phiarlan favor you can kick your run speed up to +50% with the trinket compared to only +40% with ship buffs. Not sure how much that matters, though.

Generally after grabbing the purple, I either trade it and teleport, or go strait to the teleporter. The timer starts once you leave the area (teleporting back up), and yeah, I am using the ice block, not the spell. I saw an indication that it was actually 40 seconds away from area, so I have been waiting until Shadow Jaunt is 3/4 the way back, then jumping back over, which works out well.

As far as blues, Saekee posted a great way to get a ton of blues from the Demon Queen RAID. Basically all of the Efreeti, and Elementals in the entrance area drop them, and even better, they respawn. Easiest to deal with the Elementals at the end of the entrance corridor, which keep respawning, but not too fast. On elite, guaranteed to drop a blue, so it is about 4 blue per minute or so, possibly more.

And a quick way to get the 9 Sprint boosts back: Run the Haverdasher Quest, on Normal might drop a good low level weapon for Icy Bursting.

I'm liking my collectable farmer for this, btw. It's got wings, ~12 sprint boosts per rest, 40+ jump (I assume; it's a str-build) and native teleport.

dogsoldier
01-27-2018, 06:56 PM
That looks nice. Bard would work out well for Heroic (lvl 15) as well with the Swashbuckling movement speed and the buffs.

Testing to how to shorten the respawn:

Test 1
I grabbed the purple, took the hidden teleporter back, went back to the top of the leaky dinghy and waited for the purple to respawn. Maybe 20 seconds all told. It took the full 3 minutes, so just teleporting up and going straight back out isn't enough to speed it up.

Test 2
This time after taking the teleporter I ran toward IQ, next to Durk's, then went staright to the Leaky Dinghy. Still not enough to shorten the respawn.

Test 3
Teleported to Market after getting purple, which turned out to be not helpful. I was thinking of the house teleporter that takes you to the door to the harbor; the spell takes you to the middle of the market. So then I teleported back to the harbor (by gate to IQ), ran back out to Leaky Dinghy. Still a 3-minute cooldown.

Test 4
Teleported to House K bank and waited a full minute, then teleported back to harbor and ran to leaky dinghy. Purple was already respawned, success! The question is, how much time can I spend in the coin area while still achieving this?

dogsoldier
01-27-2018, 07:18 PM
The fastest option that I know of is simply waiting after teleporting, about 40 seconds, then heading back.

EllisDee37
01-27-2018, 07:33 PM
It appears that if you enter the coin area at any point, you get the full 3-minute respawn rate. Which means we're looking at the minimum time to stay out and still get a respawn.

Taking the hidden teleporter -- cheaper than scrolls, and it's right there anyway -- if I start the stopwatch during the loading screen, and don't move a muscle for 30 seconds it consistently respawns by the time I get there. Just now tried waiting for 25 seconds instead but that resulted in the full 3 minutes.

How do you get back up to the top of the Leaky Dinghy so quickly? I need to use 2 wings to float from the teleport destination to the roof, but your iconic version has to keep its wings for the actual coin jump...

Good out of the box.Nice, thanks, forgot about that.

Reading the OP of that thread, I'm thinking I could respec my collectable farmer to take expeditious chant (+15% run speed, doesn't stack with sprint boost) and not need any sprint boost at all. Meaning I'd never need to recharge in haverdasher. (Good call on that for recharging, btw.)

No need to recharge speed boosts would be great.
I did pull this, and quickly Icy Burst it (from Haverdasher just a few min ago).

There's also the 1% movespeed per rogue level thing.

I would, figuratively, sell my soul for that or a falchion version. 30% crit range on an icyburst vorpal weapon useable at level 2? Yes please.

EllisDee37

There's also the 1% movespeed per rogue level thing.Yep, same as bard.

I'm further testing this to find the optimal run, but for selfish reasons I'm mainly focused on doing it with my collectable farmer. I redid his enhancements, and yes, expeditious chant is sufficient, no sprint boost required, so I can sustain whatever optimal rate I can manage. So far I'm down to 50 seconds per purple, but I think I can improve that.

Notes on resetting the respawn rate:

The hidden teleporter sends you outside the zone. If you go up the stairs right there, you're still outside the zone. If you go to the platform next to the rooftop just after the stairs, you're still outside the zone. If you step onto the roof (not sure how far yet) you enter the zone and get the full 3-minute wait. (EDIT: The higher part of the roof, away from the water, is outside the zone. The lower roof in inside the zone. [The roofs above Haverdasher.])

EllisDee37
01-27-2018, 09:22 PM
49 seconds per purple appears to be the fastest I can do this. The problem is that even though i looks like it may indeed reset after 40 seconds, it takes at least 9 seconds to get to it from outside the zone. And you can't enter the zone until it respawns.

So now I'm looking for potential better spots outside the zone to wait, leaving me closer than 9 seconds away from the purple.

EllisDee37
01-27-2018, 10:06 PM
Some weirdness going on.

My 49-second path is right on the ragged edge of disaster, where if I'm just a hair too fast I get the 3-minute cooldown. So I may just add an extra second to the wait time (31 instead of 30) to play it safe.

However, if I accidentally incur the 3-minute respawn -- the purple just isn't there when I jump for it -- if I take the hidden teleporter back up top and jump/wings off toward the lower harbor, farm up a few blues, then hidden teleporter back up and go for the purple again, the purple is sitting there waiting for me even though it hasn't been 3:00 yet.

The blue farm has 5 blues, 3 of which you can get in a single jump, then the other 2 are one jump each. While it appears that getting the blues resets the purple cooldown, getting the purple may or may not reset the blue cooldown.

Anyway, that's it for this testing session. Trying to learn the optimal path has generated 77 purples, 32 blues and 8 whites, but I didn't start with the blues until I had over 60 purples, so in terms of trinket farming I wonder if doing a mix of blues and purples might be the most efficient way to go.

If you've abundant step/leap of faith or the like you can make the purple from the ledge next to the ramp by recovering the lost time. No need for sprint boost but you will need to spam it 3 times to get there. By the time you run back up the purple is respawned. There are a few spots up there u can make it from

No need for sprint boost but you will need to spam it 3 times to get there. By the time you run back up the purple is respawned. There are a few spots up there u can make it fromThis is a winner. I was actually jumping from there to the leaky dinghy using 2 wings and then immediately bouncing off that roof to the purple with a third wing. Much simpler/easier to just use three wings in a single jump.

I rolled up a disposable iconic that literally needs nothing except ship buffs. It has 9 sprint boosts but never uses them for farming, just for getting around town quickly. (No teleport, sadly, though I suppose you could scroll it.)

I tested that triple-wing jump with various alts:
- My cleric with just +40% ship buff can't make it. With +50% pendant of time can't make it either.
- My paladin with +40% ship buff and +5% rogue fast movement can't make it, but can with 50% pendant of time.

That means you need some sort of speed bonus in order to make that jump. However, even my cleric with no fancy boost at all can make it from the roof on top of Recovering the Lost Tome. Climb up on the roof, then climb even higher to either the catwalk thing or behind the roof to a higher roof. From the catwalk you have to jump slightly to the side since there's some kind of ornamentation blocking a straight jump. The cleric can make it from there, but he was using the pendant of time, so a disposable iconic with only 40% ship buffs might not make it.

With all that in mind, here's the final build:
- 5 sorcerer for wings (unlimited)
- 2 barbarian for +10% fast movement, sprint boost and extra action boost
- 8 rogue for +8% fast movement

It has 40+ jump as written, no jump spell required. It has pretty high swim even though you don't actually swim while farming purples. The idea is to jump off the ledge, grab the purple, teleport back, then wait 20 seconds. Lather, rinse, repeat. Note that when you go back up and wait, don't walk out onto the ledge or you'll trigger the 3-minute cooldown. You can go up the stairs and get in position, just keep back from the roof until your 20 seconds is up. (That "20 seconds" is extremely precise, and assumes it takes 10 seconds from the teleport loading screen to getting into position. You only get 1 coin every 49 seconds at most, so wait however long that means for you before going again.)

Best of all is this is very dualbox friendly. Alternate between jumpers on the different accounts, once per 30 seconds and you end up with 2 per minute and no worrying about triggering the 3-minute cooldown since each individual does one run per 60 seconds compared to the limit of 49 seconds.

Here's a demonstration video of a this disposable iconic farming two purples. He's in group with my dualbox collectable farmer who does a run in between the iconic's two:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXkX-TcZadY

No shrining ever needed. The wait between runs is sufficient to recover the mana used by wings. Since we don't use sprint boost there's nothing to recharge. He only uses ship buffs; no spells.

EDIT: Apparently, while dualboxing, fraps captures the audio of whichever client is active. So while the dualbox is running the middle leg you can hear her using her wings, collecting the purple and splashing into the water.

Well, hmmm.

I logged in last night on my disposable farmer to check some ah postings, and since I was on anyway I did one jump for a "free" purple and landed well short. Annoyed, I came back up and did another and landed noticeably short. Frustrated, I tried a third time and managed a perfect jump but still fell just a hair short of getting the purple.

I figured maybe the ship buff run speed wasn't working, but now it occurs to me that I had respecced my collectable farmer to take Expeditious Chant so she wouldn't need to use up sprint boosts. Expeditious Chant affects nearby allies (+15% action boost bonus to run speed) and as can be seen in the linked video, she's standing right there when the disposable farmer jumps.

So now I'm thinking that the disposable will still need to use action boosts, which stinks. On the plus side, it does have 9 of them. But still. (The fourth time I said screw it and used a sprint boost, and almost sailed right over the purple with the third wings. With sprint boost active you need like 2.2 wings to get there.)

Is there any way to get more than +10% barbarian +8% rogue run speed while still taking 5 levels of sorcerer and tier 5 air savant? (Air savant is the only way to get double or triple wings for a level 15 character.)

Obviously you could farm out 150 House P favor for a pendant of time, but that seems like a lot of effort for a disposable iconic.

EDIT: Maybe PDK 4 fighter/5 sorcerer/2 barb for sprint boost, barbarian speed, stalwart defender speed, and sorcerer wings? Which class for the four extra levels, I wonder?

Shadar kai rogue 3, monk 12. Monk 12 gets 20% run speed and abundant step (costs 10 ki). Shadar kai gets jaunt. 3 ap in acrobat gets you 3% speed. With ocean stance and 8 ap in henshin, you have +2 ki gen every 6 seconds (20 every minute). 23% runspeed and you should be able to use 2 steps and a jaunt every minute without needing a rest. If you also put 4 ap into ninja spy for another +1 ki gen while sneaking, you can enter sneak in the air (or always sneak if you can overcome the -20 jump), as sneaking doesn't affect your airborne speed.

Step=>Jaunt=>Step would work, keeping everything timed right at the 1-minute cooldown mark.

For an extra buffer you could meditate during the wait to bank a bunch of extra ki. It won't last very long, but the option is there.

I'll roll one up and give it a try.

EDIT: Did a cursory test using my heroic challenge farmer to verify that monk levels alone without sprint boost is sufficient, and he was able to grab a purple. He's level 16, meaning he has 5 fast movements compared to 4 fast movements on a 12/3, and it was close, so I'll need to roll up a 12/3 to test. But at least he was able to get it. (Also looked around for any warchanters in the area and didn't see any.)

EDIT 2: So shadow jaunt puts abundant step on cooldown, meaning you need to do Step=>Step=>Jaunt, not Step=>Jaunt=>Step.

Here's a fully functional, stand-alone disposable coin farmer who needs nothing but ship buffs and doesn't require shrining. (It needs both Chronoscope for run speed AND Otto's Irresistible Dance Hall for +2 jump, so find an invite if your ship doesn't have both.)

Notes:

Go into sneak after getting the purple to regen ki faster
Wait until 10 seconds remain on your cooldowns before getting in position or you'll trigger the 3-minute respawn
Use jaunt last, as it puts abundant step on 1-minute cooldown (Step=>Step=>Jaunt)
Don't jump until you're fully off cooldown!
As written it has exactly 40 jump including ship buffs.

Here's video of two consecutive runs:

https://youtu.be/C6k9JHXLqQM

There is little margin for error. If the server hitches, you'll miss the purple. If it hitches during the first two steps, don't use jaunt. Just fail and then retry. If ki becomes an issue when quickly repeating failed attempts, meditate for a quick pick-me-up.

EDIT: Looks like I totally spaced Ocean Stance for extra ki regen. That would make sneaking unnecessary, I'd imagine. Extra ki for quick repeats on failed attempts never hurt, though.

Thank you for all the information and especially that video, EllisDee. I was getting my Purple Coins from the ski jump but now that I know how, my L27 Rogue with the Pendant of Time and Exalted Angel wings can get them much faster. :) (I can only make the jump once in every 4 or 5 tries, but that is still faster than the ski jump.)

This is somewhat off topic but...my L27 Wizard has a Pendant of Time and can get wings from Exalted Angel, but she does not have the Rogue speed boost. Is there a Wizard spell or Enhancement that could speed her up?

If the server hitches at all, or your mario skills aren't up to the challenge, sprint boost gives you a nice buffer against errors. The build I posted in post 25 has 9 sprint boosts (+50% action boost bonus to speed) and works great for that. Just "shrine" by running Haverdasher on normal and you're good to go.

If your combination of server hitching and mario skills is just shy of pulling off the monk version, but not super far away, another alternative to consider is a rallying cry build. As a bonus, this is a PDK which is more widely owned than Shadar-kai:

You get 8 sprint boosts (+35%) and 8 rally cries (+20%) per rest, which means 16 coins per rest compared to 9. I verified in-game that these have independent pools, giving 16 total.

You also get shadow walk, which is 50% striding compared to 40% striding from ship buffs, but good grief it's hard to get the coins when you don't see them until you're right next to them. If you do try shadow walk, the quickest/easiest way to remove the effect is to talk to the quest giver for Recovering the Lost Tome. As soon as the dialog opens the effect goes away.

I also don't hate having teleport, especially for getting out of Eveningstar after training.

The first run uses sprint boost, the second rallying cry. I got a minor server hitch at the end of the third wings during the rallying cry run but still (just barely) got the coin. That would have been a clear miss using the monk.

With some practice and slight adjustments to graphics settings, I am now over 50% success doing it this way. (I am a klutz.) I turned Graphics down to Very Low but set Draw Distance to Very High and Engine Speed to Very High. I can see the Purple Coin one Leap of Faith before I get to it. I also noticed that success very closely ties to how close to the edge I get before making the initial jump. If I jump right at the very edge of the roof I almost always get the coin.

I go back and forth between my web browser and the game while jumping. If doing something similar, make sure any web page is fully loaded before switching to DDO and jumping. For me, page loading crazy lags DDO.

Edit: I am now over 100 Purple Coins. This method really does work great. Also, I think EllisDee is part Vulcan. :D

Edit: I am now over 200 Purple Coins. :D Now I think the event should feature a Magenta Coin, associated with new rewards, right at the end of the third part of the ski jump to make that worth doing.

Edit: I am now over 400 Purple Coins and wondering why I continue to collect them. Hmmm.

If you create a brand new character, you may run him or her through the Crafting Tutorial and select the Lesser Pendant of Time (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Lesser_Pendant_of_Travel). This will give your Coin Farmer 20 charges of Time Warp for +50% movement speed without needing to earn any Favor with House Phiarlan. As long as your character need not enter a quest to reset Boost Skills, the one Lesser Pendant of Time should serve for the entire event.

Unfortunately, the Lesser Pendant of Time is Bound to Character.

Now that is an awesome find. That should push the monk into almost-reliable territory. It would probably make the rogue viable, but just barely.

One nice thing about this year's risia experiments is that my collectable farmer is now using expeditious chant for the passive +15% stacking run speed, which should help with collectable farming. I'll respec back to swashbuckling if I need her to fight for some reason, like say I'm running epic challenges, but for now I'm just leaving her a warchanter.
