View Full Version : Looking for staff melee build, perhaps with some Favored Soul?

I've always wanted to make a decent 1st life soloable staff build, but not sure how to best approach it. Anyone have an up-to-date staff build? It would be nice to have some FVS, but if that doesn't really work that is fine.

Update: Here is something I just whipped up, any criticisms are welcome.

Henshin (Monk) got some love, you could definitely do a staff build with that and be okay. Evasion + Saves helps with soloable too. Light Monk gets heals off that bat, dark monk can get a heal at 12 from T5 Henshin. Aasimar would go well here too if you have access to that, the racial heals are wisdom based which is good synergy with a monk.

Acrobat rogue works as well, though not any self healing (short of pots/wands) until epics, unless you go Aasimar. AP is tight on rogues though, might be iffy.

FvS follower of Aureon would allow for wis or cha to hit/dmg if you wanted to go that route, but you'd want at least 6 fighter for kensei to do the crit mult/range. That would also give you room for Stalwart Defense to help out with melee though, which is a plus. You could also go Str with good Cha to use Divine Might if you wanted, probably better damage that way. Only problem with Aureon is the level 6 bonus is very caster oriented, unless you went Wis to hit/dmg.

Anything without Divine Might can always go int based and KtA it up with Harper Tree if you've got that. If they don't have +crit range/multi for staff, add 6+ fighter and go T5/3rd Core Kensei to get both.

I did a 12/6/2 fvs monk ftr build
See theory crafting the celestial monk, first half of thread
It was super dps
Going fighter is prob good too
Can go armor
Depends on your style and gear

I think that you could also go 2 rogue (or 7/1) for +15% attack speed & traps, or 2wiz for the EK defence sla's.

6 fighter /2 barb HOrc or WF to leverage PA boosts?

The Zeus build looks loads of fun too (not used it yet), sorry too lazy to link today

If you have monk, the obvious choice is FvS 12 / monk 6 / rog 2 IMO. FvS for Aureon bonuses to staves, Heal spell, and Knowledge / Grace of Battle if you choose to be WIS- or CHA-based (DEX or STR based are also options); monk 6 for Henshin (tier-5, +30 MP, etc.) and Shadow Veil; rog splash for +15% atk speed (2nd lvl is just for extra skill pts or access to 2nd-tier rog trees e.g. Haste Boost).

If you don't have monk, maybe FvS 12 / rog 5 / ftr 3: tier-5 Acrobat, ftr splash for extra feats and defensive stance.

I do have monk, so I can go this route. Any suggestions on level order? I'm assuming at least rogue at level 1, but to use Knowledge of Battle I'll have to have at least 50% of FVS levels. Maybe R-F-M-F-F-M-??? and so on?

If you are WIS/DEX based, could go 2-7 as monk, rest as FvS, with 2Rog whenever you want haste boost (giant hold or vale maybe?).

IMHO, shadow veil & Melee Power is more useful than the FvS bonuses, when at lower level, and when you pick up first two FvS level, your DPS should increase very nicely, but you will already have the defence etc.
