waffles!

it's a mystery how exactly kobolds came to be obsessed with those tasty delights, but it is well known that if you want to get rid of a kobold infestation, you just need to leave out a tray with a huge stack of waffles. both tray and waffles will vanish and never turn up again, rumour has it the tray has it's own role to play in the celebrations. Unfortunately no one has ever been able to observe the exacting rituals in the natural habitat of local kobold tribes. The bigger the stack of waffles, the longer the kobold infestation will be a non-issue.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Nok Gabble Gip Gap!

Vexa the Dagger: Gesundheit.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: No, silly! Nok Gabble Gip Gap is the Kobold celebration of Heirloom giving. You see, all kobolds love small, shiny, interesting objects--coins, gems, crystals, jewelry, little metal parts, that sort of thing. In ancient times, Kobolds would attack and even kill one another to obtain such trifles.

Vexa the Dagger: By 'ancient times' you mean, like, five minutes ago, right?

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Stop. Many years ago, a Kobold Prophet named Nok had a holy vision. Gip Gap, the Keeper of Beautiful Shinys...

Vexa the Dagger: You mean junk.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Stop. Gip Gap appeared to Nok in a dream and proclaimed that Kobolds must stop the killing and the hurting and the hating. She told Nok that Kobolds must gift shiny objects to each other.

Vexa the Dagger: That worked out well.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Stop! Nok brought Gip Gap's message to his tribe, and so began the celebration of Nok Gabble Gip Gap--Nok's Proclamation of Gip Gap. Kobolds celebrate Nok Gabble Gip Gap by collecting interesting objects and gifting them to loved ones and friends.

Vexa the Dagger: And this keeps them from killing one another? Badly?

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Kobolds were once far more violent. Killing close family members was quite common. Kobold historians believe Nok Gabble Gip Gap helped Kobolds transition from being solitary predators to communal hunters. Tribes still attack one another but now family members rarely do so.

Vexa the Dagger: You are such a nerd.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: You asked!

Vexa the Dagger: Actually, Cordovan asked, you sneezed, I offered a polite Gesundheit, and then you launched into the Rise and Fall of the Kobold Empire.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Fine! I will go back to reading.

Vexa the Dagger: No, no. So, hey. Who is Gip Gap?

Sophie the Cat Burglar: No one actually knows. The Kobolds believe her to be a beautiful Dragon of gold and silver who lairs upon a great treasure heap of coins and jewels and shiny trinkets. She loves all Kobolds and offers them her wisdom.

Vexa the Dagger: You mean, like, don't eat that?

Sophie the Cat Burglar: Some Kobold historians believe Gip Gap may actually exist. They conjecture that she is an elder being attempting to uplift and civilize Kobolds.

Vexa the Dagger: Good luck with that.

Sophie the Cat Burglar: If true, they believe Kobolds may one day evolve or reincarnate into a higher form.

Vexa the Dagger: Wait, wait, wait. So a Kobold could reincarnate into a higher form. So. Sophie. Looking at your bedroom. I see two treasure chests full of shiny coins, a bunch or jewelry boxes stuffed to overflowing, two display cases full of brightly painted miniatures, a bunch of shiny artifacts hanging on the walls, and what I could only describe as a clothing fetish for brightly polished chainmail dresses. Are you telling me you are a reincarnated Kobold?

Sophie the Cat Burglar: No!

Vexa the Dagger: Hmm. You sure know an awful lot about this Nok Gabble Gip Gap. Past life memories?

Sophie the Cat Burglar: I am not a reincarnated Kobold!

Vexa the Dagger: If the shiny silver slipper fits...
