Please for the love of my sanity (the little that remains) prevent the Carcass Eaters and Worgs from becoming Champions.

On the (not exactly) unlikely chance that the Carcass Eaters bug out and can't be led around by using the Rotten Meat. Finding the last Carcass eater in the 3rd maze is a champion with 800 hit points, extra fort and extra damage is a touch demoralising.

Yes I know there are ways of cheesing through the quest but I'll not use them.

I'm not expecting the Eaters to be fixed so they never bug out. Just stop them being borderline unkillable by my little rat.

Cheers.

Back to attempt number 4.

Farm Diplomatic Impunity until you get a Wand of Blasting, then kill the Carcass Eaters yourself.

There are a multitude ways of cheesing it, the Wand of Blasting is just one. There are other ways that used to work that no longer do. They were fixed. I just want to the quest to work in the way it was designed (more or less)

I think asking the devs to turn off champions is cheesier than using in-game mechanics to achieve your aims.

Heh, try having Reapers spawn under the flooring. Champ Wargs are a treat after that.

how is using a spell that is supposed to go through barriers of that sort cheesing? Personally I use the cacophonic verge from red fens, 50 charges of sonic blast... gives my UMD challenged characters more failing opportunities :)

Welcome to DDO lottery where bad luck and bugs can ruin your fun in name of challenge.

I keep seeing the phrase 'cheesing it' in regards to using one of the various methods to kill the critters yourself. And I will point out...your character is standing on an open grate surface. There is no reason spells like acid blast and fireball would NOT go through a grate. This isn't 'cheese' it's realism.

I have come to the conclusion that 'cheesing' means using a tactic the person using the word is either not capable of, or thinks of as unheroic. however, if you are able to aproach every problem with DPS, that is probably considered 'beefing' lol.

LOL Just like people are always teasing me because of my naming convention that I don't run super-armored toons and 'turtle up' I suppose. :) it's one of the reasons I play a variety of toons though, so I have a variety of options, and I have beefed up as you put it. :) Mixed success. LOL

Just wanted to note that in my experience the carcass eaters can always be "trained". The issue is that some do take longer to "train" than others (some a lot longer). If there are some that cannot be trained I must have been lucky in my dozens of runs to never run into them.

Staying persistent and showering them with meat they do eventually start following it, though it can take a minute or two sometimes in really bad cases.

I actually was in the middle of writing a guide for the quest when I took a break. I had forgotten about it but I had already done a lot of image work on it so I may as well post what I have here in case it might help some people (click images to view larger versions):

Left image is just demonstrating that you can see clouds above your rats and carcass eaters/wargs from a distance so you can monitor progress at a distance. Green = your rat, Red = not your rat.
Right image is just showing that for long straight sections you don't need meat in each opening, the rat just needs line of sight (though if the rat just got to the corner and has not turned onto the straight path sometimes it won't see a piece way down the line).

Maze #1
https://i.lensdump.com/i/EPvdK.md.png (https://i.lensdump.com/i/EPvdk.png)

Clear the carcass eaters/wargs out with AE effects while leading your rat down the path. Very simple maze.

Maze #2
https://i.lensdump.com/i/EPLMZ.md.png (https://i.lensdump.com/i/EPLMZ.png)

Start by "training" the carcass eater and leading him to the nearby toggle. You will then use him to toggle doors for this maze from here on out.
Once the carcass eater is out of the way and heading to the toggle you can bring the rat out and follow the green line using the toggle as needed.
The trick for making this one go quick is to stop the rat at position labeled #1 and toggle then you can skip dealing with the western side of this maze (the doors will swing and clip through the rat).

Maze #3

Notes:

The strategy in this map works well if you have a trapper or can time moving a carcass eater over a trap, but I have a better strategy that doesn't require a trapper or timing that is actually faster so I would redo this map if I ever finished writing this up fully. Essentially the only change though is that you use the carcass eater near the SE toggle and take your rat out the north side of the rat nest instead of the south.
At several points in this you will be waiting for blades to move into the correct position and you will want to spend this time killing anything that will attack your rat.

Guide:

At Rat #1 you park your rat until the blade is almost to Blades #1 (when the blades are SE of the Rat #3 position) then start your rat moving towards Rat #2 (pre-bait all but the first piece of meat for ease, the blades won't destroy the meat as they go by).
Once your rat is at Rat #2 safely, wait until the blades come back..but DO NOT go right away, wait until the blades come back again (when they are moving from east to west) and as they go by have your rat follow them and duck into Rat #3 (again pre-baiting can make this easier). If you have time toggle the door to position A.
Once the blades return past your position again you can go stopping just short of Rat #4 to use your carcass eater on the toggle if you didn't have time in the last step.
It can take some careful timing to do the toggle here with your rat waiting in the blade trap area, so if you're unsure about it just go straight to the NE toggle with your rat and then wait for the blade to return and follow it back out. It doesn't add much time to take the rat to the toggle, but for fastest times you will want to skip this. And the best way to skip it is to toggle while waiting at position #3 (or even #2)
Once your rat is safe at Rat #4 you're more or less home free it's a straight shot to Rat position #5 and then you toggle the doors and you're done.

You can finish the quest in around 15-20m, even on reaper, with practice.

Oh yeah, you can also use the meat to poison the critters, but that takes FOREVER. I dont' recommend it, but it is possible.
