hi,
What content do you play?
Heroic? epic? normal, hard, elite, reaper?
Do you have past lives? do you play in a party a lot?
A simple build:
Half orc barbarian, fighter 2
1, power attack
2, first fighter level, cleave.
3, tho handed fighting (or completionist)
4, second fighter level great cleave
5,
6, improved 2 handed fighting
7,
8,
9, improved critical
10,
11,
12, greater 2 handed fighting

19,
20,
Max strength and all level ups in str. the rest divided in con (hp and longer rage) and dex(ref save)
fairly simple barb build with 2 feat slots for extra options, you can use them to improve your saves, add Crowd control in the form of stunning blow (assuming you have the tomes/gear/past lives to support that play style in your difficulty setting)
pick either Frenzied Berserker (best dps) or ravager (some self healing outside of reaper) to max out and stick some points into the half orc tree for the power attack and orcish rage.
All the power attack enh will add up, -11 to hit, +22 to damage per swing
Gear wise, focus on str, con, saves, accuracy (to offset the penalty to hit) and a good falchion (+a ghost touch falchion if you're in reaper mode), spell resistance gear still works in heroics (the chronoscope (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Infested_Armor) platemail for example is nice for low levels
play wise, buff, buff, buff, then rage. Useful buffs are rage(spell) shield, (greater) heroism, haste, FoM, DW, stone-skin, blur (wand), displacement(green-steel clicky), then rage and smash.
If you have a tank in party, play like a rogue, go round and stab m in the back, remember, you have the hp, not the defense.
Aim for the reaper/cleric and caster first.
however this build works fine as a pure barb build too
You could replace the fighter levels for rog levels, though you would take a lot more physical damage.

Fun is very subjective. There are so many options, just try some and even come up with your own. That is what is so great about the TR system, each life can be a different experience.

He says the build can't be a barb or paladin.
Needless,
We need more info about what lives, classes, and tomes you possess to be of any assistance too you.
2 builds I am throwing around the last 2 days are
12 Ftr 5 Lock 3 X
12 Ftr 7 Cleric (str domain) 1 barbarian

Generally, if you want to be a multi class, either melee or ranged, you will want at least 6 fighter levels. But yeah, without knowing much else, what gear you have, past lives, what you want really, that's the only information I'm able to give.

Tempest 2WF Rangers mix very well with several other classes: Kensai (requires 8 levels if you use One With the Blade), FvS and Cleric (Warpriest with Ameliorating Strike), Warlock ES, even Monk combined with Kensai (fussy build, but potent).
I did a non-Ranger version once with dual Khopesh Kensai (One With the Blade), Monk, FvS, and loved it. Again, mixing monk and Kensai keeps you busy with clickies and timers, but it was very effective: excellent self-healing, great dps (if you pay close attention to your attack routine), and descent defense. If you play an Elf or Drow, dual scimitars might be a better choice.

One With the Blade no longer requires 8 levels, it is meeting the prereq for weapon's master with Greater Weapon Focus that requires 8 levels of fighter. It is a minimum difference of around 5 damage.

Good to know. Thanks. Opens up more options. Hmm, maybe I should run that build again (I've been doing casters lately).
