can wefix cyclonic blast? i only notice on my new monk but i still take damage even on a made save.
as far as i can tell - if i make the save i dont fall down and take damage - if i fail i fall down and take damage
it is a reflex save, so i shouldnt be taking damage on a made save

According to the wiki (from your quote above), you should still take damage even if you make the save.
A successful Reflex save reduces the damage by half.

Make sure you're not encumbered or using a large shield. You can make a successful reflex save but will not evade if encumbered.

doing a more controlled test rather then just looking at combat logs now
in von 2 normal
(Combat): You attempt to save versus cyclonic blast. You roll a 17 (+66): save!
(Combat): Thaarak Hound's cyclonic blast hit you for 16 points of damage.
I won't write down all of the numbers, but I let this go on for 5 minutes and did not roll a single 1. I took damage on each save.

I believe the spell works this way:
If you fail the save, you take full damage *AND* being knocked down prone.
So, as a character with improved evasion; if you fail the save, you take half damage *AND* being knocked prone.
If you made the save, you take half damage *AND* NOT being knocked prone.
With improved evasion, somehow you *STILL* takes half damage with the save. I think the save part is not being knocked prone.

but it should be - you dont take damage at all if you make your save - just like everyother reflex save in the game

This is probably part of the reason why they gave this spell to Reapers along with other.....aggressive spells like Polar Ray.

It's possible that the way the saves are coded that the Strength/Dex check interferes with how the reflex save normally works on that spell. Similar things happen with other spells like Sunburst. Sunburst is a level 8 spell, but is blocked by a lich's mantle of invulnerability (blocks spells level 4 and under). The reason it is blocked is because of wonky coding that counts the blind effect as a level 2 spell probably because it the effect may be copied over from the Blindness spell. Cyclonic Blast is also blocked by the mantle despite being a level 5 spell. This is because the knockdown effect is probably copied over from Gust of Wind.

Sounds broken to me. It's funny at the lack of understanding about Evasion. I will admit I was naïve once too though. I will never forget the first time I ever had evasion. Lvl 20 bard swashbuckler. I thought the game was bugged because I wasn't taking damage... Then I realized how glorious Evasion was.

I'd like to see this spell fixed. Thaarak Hounds will simply destroy you in high skull reapers despite Improved Evasion, and that's not how things are supposed to work*. Spending two feats should give you an effect that applies as intended.
* Before the inevitable replies, I get it: "The DM is trying to kill you." I'm not asking for a reaper nerf, I'm asking for an Evasion/Improved Evasion fix. He can try to kill me via lowering my damage, lowering my self heals, boosting enemy damage, spawning higher level Champions, and adding in Reapers all he likes. Killing me because he simply ignores my feats is not a legitimate part of the package.

Evasion only works against certain spells. Cyclonic blast is not one of those spells apparently. It would be nice to have a complete list of spells that evasion does work on but I've never seen that list compiled.

The lack of give-a-darn is palpable at this point. Maybe it's time to test it in reverse: start Cyclonic Blasting mobs that have Evasion and see if they take damage? If it helps players, it gets fixed with a quickness ;)

Wiki states that evasion works with certain magical attacks. No where does it state that it works for all spells or magical attacks that require a reflex roll.

no dev has ever commented on it.

and ya im using the definition of what evasion is for basing it on what it should work on. if it says its a reflex save, it should work!

That is a poor chain of logic. There are numerous bugs which have existed in the game for years, and even been acknowledged by the devs as bugs, but which remain in the game despite being known bugs. Being a known issue for a long time != WAI. It doesn't even imply that.

Ladder glitch is still a thing.
Evasion is supposed to gives it's benefits vs spells and effects that target reflex saves to do damage. By the in game rules it should work against Cyclonic Blast as well, but currently does not. DDOwiki is made by fans using anecdotal evidence gathered by playing the game (with clarifications if they arise from these forums), not the devs who can look directly at the code... so while usually quite accurate, it isn't always so, and can actually be wrong from time to time.
Unless a dev actually comes in to say that this is WAI, we cannot justifiably state it is so with absolute certainty, especially when the in game description of Evasion and Cyclonic Blast gives no indication that Evasion does not work against Cyclonic Blast (and every indication that it should).

To be honest, I haven't played a BrokenWolf in quite a while to know if the SWF+TWF still works. I do know broken ladders are still prolific, and Hunter of Boxes still just glitches out Arti pets. So no, "much" of those three examples haven't been fixed and still apply ;)
But it's cool, believe what you will & enjoy the bliss ^^

Recent ladder repairs and and swf+twf nerfs have been posted in release notes.So Yes much of those have been fixed.Don't take take my word for it-read the past release notes yourself.If you don't want to believe the info the devs posted than that's on you.

By your "logic" even if those things were fixed they were WAI until the moment they were fixed. Why were they fixed if they were WAI?

Appears your the one who's been ignoring this post. Many players wont go to the trouble of filing bug reports, hence they post in the forums. Devs have always worked on new content and bugs at the same time. There is more than one dev you know. The devs are also more capable then you think.

Yes, but I'd rather them be working instead of scouring the forums looking for bugs. Where ppl like you complain about lack of dev response on forums. Also it's not the dev's jobs to monitor forums for this stuff. As for other ppl filing a report that doesn't matter it was directed at the one complaining about lack of dev response on forums. :P
Heck I could list a few bugs about Evasion/dodge/and other similar stuff to cyclonic blast but its not worth the time on forums.

Where did I complain about dev response on the forums? No one said it was the devs job to monitor forums. You make a lot of assumptions that are way out there in left field.

you could use a "shortcut" in big top to get easy tokens - wai
abbott raid broken - no word just shut down - wai

using heavy armor with evasion - wai
more then half of then turbine staff being let go - no comment- wai right?

I said the lack of response on a 6 week old thread implies it might be WAI. Just this week when there was a problem with the store devs responded almost immediately. Would you care to explain the difference between threads that get a one day response and threads that get ignored for over 6 weeks. Guess that might be hard for you to explain without a lot of guess work and silly assumptions.

Many of those bugs were reported so often and were so obvious, like broken ladders there was no need or reason to respond to multiple threads about the same problem.

Unfortunately, the store was 'fixed' with a go around because it's a main source of revenue. The 'unfortunately' not in any way lowering the value in it needing to be fixed pronto or not. It's bottom line.

evasion - if a spell requires a reflex save for half damage, and you make the save you take no damage instead of half damage.
blast gives a reflex save for gasp, half damage

That confirms what I was saying. If it was WAI the devs would have responded in 4 weeks or less. Since they haven't we must conclude that it's not WAI.

Sorry to say against this, but this dev response was posted on the lamania forums just after a patch went up. Where dev's where looking for player feedback on all the new stuff. Aasimar/Vistani/cosmetics/dagger down and such that guys post just happened to be caught up in the mix.

Finding an example of a dev saying that something is WAI is just a matter of looking through the dev tracker.
It was not a serious attempt of a proof. It was only to show the hilarity of the other guys argument.

You know, it's a fair question to ask, the text on the feat in game does suggest it should be any reflex save to avoid damage where you would otherwise take half.

so since its not the weekend.....
can this go up?
would like a dev to chime in and say something. "yes its wai" would suck, but be ok. "we know and we have it fixed in our private build" would be awesome. Even "read by qa" would be acceptable. Maybe at this point - " hob, your mom wears combat boots and you need to shut up" would be something!
so my ticket is 27769 and i have done the following tests - not conclusive.
went into invaders with a monk. level 30. reflex save of 69. got hit 55 times by blast. made save 54 of those. half damage on the saves half damage on the fail. fell down on fail. (imp evasion if it makes a difference.)
went into von 2 - only 20 but 20 saves half damage.
rolled up a fresh gnome wizard. went into bargain of blood.
real inconclusive here - first set of archers - cast blast 3 times. 2 didnt save knocked down and dead by third blast. so failed reflex full damage and knock down.
last archer - was slivered knocked down. when he stood up he took a blast and had the save symbol over his head and took no damage. on second cast died.

Here is the reality of this issue and bugs in general in this game ...
Fixing things like this that are originally coded in outdated systems, platforms, etc are beyond the scope of the devs expertise. I mean half the spells and class enhancements are bugged and can't be efficiently fixed without starting over; however, that is not priority for the devs. Thus this issue is a microcosm why numerous bugs will continue to accumulate without any hint of fixation.

I suspect the reason evasion doesn't help with this spell is that there was an issue with it requiring 3 saves or something, which was fixed at some point.
I'd also like a fix for this. Have you checked that you're actually making a reflex save? (could be making a fortitude, like in energy burst from draconic) If you are indeed making a reflex save, then I suppose the save part of the spell has a crude script hardcoded.

Since Improved Evasion negates damage against an effect that normally does half damage when saved against, and Cyclonic Blast's damage does half damage when saved against, a successful reflex save should negate the damage. Ultimately, it's probably a pretty low-priority bug, but sure, it's a bug.

No, the bug is that there is no save whatsoever against cyclonic blast now. Everyone takes full damage, evasion or not.

My understanding is that there is a saving throw, which when successful avoids falling down. It's that the damage part is not properly connected to the saving throw.

Indeed, and it can be really frustrating. Going around the rock-step area in Undermine with a champion caster at the end who can see and target you (but whom is out of my range, ***?) and cyclonic blast-spams my rogue for massive, unsavable damage is just nuts.

How the spell currently functions it has no coded interaction with Evasion or Improved Evasion
If it is Wai a simple note in the spell text remarking "This spell bypasses Evasion" would be appreciated.
- Reflex Save for Half Damage
Successful Save - Take Half Damage
Failed Save - Take Full Damage, Make an additional Save vs Knockdown Effect
- Spell Absorption
The spell is correctly absorbed as a single level 5 spell and does bypass a Lich's Mantle of Invulnerability

Confirmed this today that this bug is still an issue.... 3 years later?
Rolled a save on a character with evasion and still took half damage. I actually looked it up to find this post and I see that it's already outstanding because... dang... that was on the hardcore server! That could have been 15 levels down the drain because of an ancient bug! Lol
FYI on Reflex based spells-
-A character without evasion should take half damage on a save and full damage on a fail
-A character with evasion should take NO damage on a save and full damage on a fail
-A character with improved evasion should take NO damage on a save and half damage on a fail
The falling down part should be a different roll altogether after failing the initial save and evasion has no play on that. Strictly a strength or dex check after that.
After 3 years now, can this be put on a bit higher priority level to fix?

I think Cordovan essentially answered that question. And since then, more bugs of great import have entered the game. If anything, bugslike this slip down the list, not up it, as the game ages.

So here's a question. Does this work this way against Mobs as well. As in could this spell be a guaranteed damage dealer vs. Evasion Mobs or is it only broken for PC's?
