Hi all,

I asked this in the race section but haven't gotten any responses yet.
Does anyone know how the Sun elf Sunburst SLA DC is calculated? I thought I saw it was 10+Character Level + Int modifier but wanted to be sure before I build something.

Based on my recall of testing the Deep Gnome SLAs I believe you are correct it is based off Intelligence.

But I don't think Character Level is part of that DC. I do believe the Caster Level is based on Character Level

I believe the DC is 10+8 spell Level + Int modifier -> I don't recall if Heighten is available on the SLA but if it is it would in theory be the Highest Spell Level possible if better then 8. Such as a 17th Level Cleric could boost that to 9.

I would have suspected the sun elf SLA to be wis based since it is cleric iconic. Hard to judge from deep gnome since is a int race and class.

My guess would be Charisma.

But what if I weren't a cleric - like a druid or sorcerer - would I still be able to heighten it to top caster level?

This is based off of the fact that Sunburst is Wizard/Sorcerer spell as well as Druid (druid coming after the spell was initially implemented) and the fact that the Spells in Deep Gnome were also Wizard/Sorcerer and testing during that time showed that Intelligence and not Wisdom effected the DCs. I believe those tests also included other racial SLAs as discussion points. I just have not found that discussion that came out back when Deep Gnome was added - It was around both the Color Spray and PK SLAs.

Both Deep Gnome/Gnome and Sun Elf are Intelligence Races even though Sun Elf is a Cleric Iconic. So I don't think the fact that it is cleric iconic has is a factor on determining the DC Attribute.

If heighten is an option, if your maximum spell level exceeds 8 then yes you should be able to raise this to a level 9 spell. This assumes Heighten is available on the SLA (which I'm now highly certain it is since the spell can be heightened)

I just stumbled upon U18 Iconics Developer Diary (https://www.ddo.com/en/articles/u18-iconics-developer-diary), which says:

Amaunator’s Brilliance: Spell Like Ability: Sunburst: A globe of searing radiance explodes to blast targets for 6 to 36 points of light damage in addition to blinding them. Oozes and Undead instead take 4 to 6 points of light damage per caster level. A successful Reflex save reduces the damage by half and negates the blindness. The save DC for this spell is based on your Wisdom. Light fearing undead may be instantly destroyed by this spell. Uses spell points. Cooldown decreases with each rank gained.

This is good news that it is based on Wisdom. I concede that I was wrong on this SLA (and actually glad that I was)
