Hello DDO community, I have a question about the VIP in this game. Now I'm a returning player and I'm thinking of getting back in to DDO, but I cant really get a feel for the game seeing as my old main character is locked because I am no longer a VIP and I don't have everything unlocked. I also cant test the expansions that I used to ruin and things like that. So I was wondering, is there a way to get a free trial of VIP before I decide if I wanna pay for VIP again? since it has been a year since I have played this is just a question I have feel free to give me a response.

I don't think there's any free VIP trial.
However, if you used to be VIP you might have a bunch of points saved up in the store which you can use to purchase the adventure packs, races, classes, what-have-you and so get access to your main character again.
Or you could pony up the money for 1 or 3 months of VIP and see if you still like it.

Thanks for the help, but I can buy it I just want to see if there's a way I could avoid spending money

Well thanks for all the help guys but I have one more question: If you have all 5 or 6 bags (I don't remember which) do you lose it when you reincarnate?

If you're talking about inventory/bank, you lose the two of each you get from favor, but the initial tabs and any you purchased remain. Mind, this simply refers to a heroic or iconic reincarnation (starting over at L1, or L15 if you choose to become an iconic character), not any other kind of reincarnation, in which you don't lose anything.
If you're talking about the red collectible / green ingredients / blue gem bags, then no, you don't lose those in any sort of reincarnation.

Why don't you see if you have enough Turbine points to buy another character slot, which would let you access your main character?

First off there are many servers and it's a good idea for you to play on the other ones as you can get first time DDO point rewards for favor on each of them. I suggest running a character on each server up to 100 favor, and you don't need VIP to do that (Although it does help since you can run quests on elite that way without someone opening them for you)
This will give you enough DDO points to buy a different race (Whatever race your main char was for instance) and have some points left over for additional content as well
It'll also give you a feel for DDO so you can see if you want to come back. I highly recommend going VIP even if you don't need it (I have all the packs opened up, the races/classes etc as well, but I still pay for VIP).
VIP gives you 500 points a month, and a bunch of other bonuses, and supports the game, I have always had VIP when playing and I have been here since the beta (although, I have taken many breaks).
It's a great game (even IF I don't feel if it's AS great a game as it was) and well worth supporting. It's still alot of fun, although it's harder to get parties/groups together now:(

is your main character locked because of a premium race (warforged/half-elf/half-orc/gnome/dragonborn) or class (druid/monk/warlock) to which you no longer have access? or was it locked because you have a bunch of alts and that particular character was locked out due to the lesser # of character slots available to you as premium over vip? if it is the latter, then I think you should be able to contact in-game customer support to swap out which character is under lockout (provided that you have access to that race/class).
you would be locked out of adventure packs you do not own (if you never purchased any adventure packs, then a significant # of quests would be inaccessible to you), but if you did purchase the menace of the underdark and the shadowfell expansion packs, then those would still be available to you -- those expansion packs are purchased separate from vip, so if you had access to them before, you should still have them.

What if I payed $10 for the first month of VIP but then I canceled my prescription so I dont have to pay $10 for 3 months. Would I get 1 month of VIP because I payed for it before turning it off?

No. VIP is paid all up front. So if you do the 3-month/$30 option, you'll be billed for $30. Then if you cancel the subscription right after that, you'll have VIP access for three months, but it won't automatically renew.
Also, if you choose any VIP option, it will automatically renew unless you either cancel the subscription or delete the payment account before the renewal date.

Okay good to know.

Okay good to know.
There is a one month option though, but it's $15 instead of 10.
So you could sign up for just 1 month and then get a 3 month if you enjoy it, and you would have 4 months for only 5$ more then it would have cost you with a 3 month plan.
Not a huge loss if you just wanna test it out.
Still, kinda worth it just to go for the 3 month plan, since it's 2x as much but 3x as long.
