View Full Version : Vampiric Weapons - Stealth Nerf?

Perhaps I missed it in the patch notes (if so please direct my attention), but it seems like vampiric weapons have been nerfed.
Specifically, repeaters used to proc the heal every bolt but I am now only getting 1 heal per volley even if I get a doubleshot proc. Furthermore, while using Improved Precise Shot and firing through multiple targets with any ranged weapon, repeater or otherwise, I only get 1 heal instead of 1 per hit as it was previously.
Assuming this was intentional, I don't think its unreasonable to expect nerfs like this to at least be announced when they are implemented.
What gives?

AFAIK only "new vampirsm" items (ie current random/cannith crafted) were nerfed. They apparantly have a cooldown timer on them that makes them rather worthless.

Oh your talking about ranged, which the old vampirism didn't work on. I didn't realise that IPS was bypassing the timer.

Yep, I had tested it about 2 months ago with several training dummies with a repeater and a GxBow.
I'm really baffled as to why it was nerfed at all. Even with good healing amp this is like 4-6 healing per shot at level 15+ until you go into reaper and you get 0 or 1 healing per shot.
It's the type of healing that helps stretch resources a bit further but doesn't save you when you get into trouble.
I am baffled at why something like this gets developer attention while dozens of other issues that players have been begging for fixes on go unheeded. And of course we don't get any sort of refund or way to fix the items so we can craft over the now useless ability.

Funny that you mention that, the cooldown timer bit was exactly what I had deduced as well. Or I should say I am assuming that is your deduction, or is there actually a public comment on this from the devs?

Does vampiric? on newly crafted melee weapons have a similar timer? Or is that only for ranged weapons?

Just an observation from the last time I tried one out after the random loot pass. Seemed to be limited to about 1 proc per second. Wheras an old vamp item proccessed on each hit.
I never commented on it, but I think someone else did about the same time.

My ML10 undead beater is a maul with vampirism, and while the cooldown isn't that noticeable on a non-staff THF weapon, I do notice the cooldown loud and clear while cleaving.

IIRC the last thing I saw was that repair healing was bypassing the timer, haven't checked though. Were you on a robot before and fleshie now?

Lol, guy, you need lvlup your perception skill asap, because this nerf was implemented as part U29 with new random-gen loot present.
All post-U29 random/post-U30 CC stuff with vampirism have internal cooldown and almost useless for most players.
I understand why they would nerf vampirism for ranged weapons, since being able to proc it unlimited times with IPS is a little broken, but let's be honest, one HP per second is ridiculously low for something that could be exchanged for something else. Reaper nerfs most of it to 0 anyway and even with "old" multiproc vampirism it would be difficult to negate melee chip damage, even on lower difficulties, without a damage mitigation build. Vampirism is one of those effects that, while theoretically useful, isn't actually all that helpful, given that tactical DC buffs or stat damage could mitigate, on a properly set up build, more damage than vampirism could heal back with 1HP/s, assuming 100% utilization of vampirism cooldowns which may not be the case due to conditions where the player might not hit in a second, such as a natural 1 making an attack miss or resulting in a control effect preventing the player from attacking. Old vampirism is great for melees though, since cleaving enemies will produce a pretty string of +1's over the player's head.

Yeah, do not craft a Vamp weapon. Might as well take the recipes out of the game. Useless.
Still using a Bloody Cleaver in mid levels on melee lives. With hamp, this can keep you up
for entire quests.

Are you kidding? It's a HUGE amount of healing from a repeater or a shiruken using IPS and hitting multiple targets multiple times.

It's not that useful for melee who are getting hit more often, but it's still quite useful for a ranged character who can go many seconds without getting hit, and healing back to max during that time.

I'm a warforged favored soul, though, and I think I remember it being a robot thing, where robots didn't have a cooldown. Maybe that's what happening with you, sqrl? Before you were a robot and now you're not, maybe?

Oh, I thought they said they fixed that. I guess they didn't yet.

As a human barbarian I am not getting multiple vampirism procs from cleaves, so I'm guessing it's the fleshy vs. robot thing. Just one more reason why warforged are the superior race.

Don't forget in reaper you're basically rounding down to zero.

I am kinda 100% positive they nerfed old vampirism too, instead of seeing green numbers piled up, i see a casual hiatus/pause in between the numbers poppin up.
Otherwise I have a nice old vampiric wrap I am not gonna link here as its op due to a glitch. Hehe.

Old vampirism works as before, proc with ever hit, without cooldown.
