View Full Version : Seal of the Black Abbot

I used to run Ascension Chamber with my guildes 3-4 times a week for loot and Seal of the Black Abbot.
In the past few weeks after an update, we discovered that Seal of the Black Abbot not dropping anymore.
Usually we got 1 seal in 3 run or even more in the past and now we got zero since few weeks ago.
The other loots are fine and sometimes with mythic on those.
Did anyone get a Seal of the Black Abbot in these few weeks?
I hope it is not bugged but that means we are extremely unlucky in the past few weeks.

I hope it is not bugged

Worst case if it is you can always just turn in shield or tome sets for the seal.

Just to get it out of the way, you're not running on Normal I assume, right?

We are always running on elite for better loot drop rate and seal.
Since an update, the chest did not drop seal anymore.
We tried to run hard once and still got nothing from it.
The drop rate of seal is normal in the past.
Every few runs there must be 1 among us.
It is very abnormal that in these few weeks we got zero seal.

that is so funny that you posted this thread. I was actually wondering about the seal of the black abbot drop rate from the ascension chamber raid myself.

we run the ascension chamber on elite 4 times a week (for the past 3 weeks so far). someone asked me where to get a seal of the abbot. I told them it was a rare drop from the raid itself, but that she could get it from a complete tome or shield turn-in.

but it got me realizing that in all those raids that we have run, the seal of the abbot has not dropped once (I have been taking record from the beginning of all the named drops).

Same here. We have opened the chest in hard about 30 times recently (last month) and no seal of the abbot has appeared. The drop rate of the other named items seems the same as in the past, but the seal has not dropped even once.

With a few people saying the same and no one claiming a seal drop, I assume it is bugged or it has been intentionally changed (but without notice as far as I know). Not sure when the bug/change started... U33 maybe. What I can say is that in U35 Patch4, the seal of the abbot is still not appearing in the chest of the raid.

It would be great if someone could confirm if this is a bug or WAI.

As stated upthread, I successfully farmed several seals from the raid in December and January.

IIRC I pulled around 4 in the 20 runs I did, around 10 of which I dualboxed so figure around 30 pulls. Sadly there was no seal in the 20th list.

Steelstar, do you know if more named items have dropped out? Or if there is something that easily can make that happen on updates? Like patching a build (on compile) with X script adds items 1,2,3 and script Y adds items 3,4,5, however without script Z to wrap it all up, the order of operations makes item 3 get removed (because one script turns it on, the other turns it off)...

In this particular case, there was heavy work done on most of the game's treasure tables to support the overarching Mythic/Reaper bonus system, and that work inadvertently left this item out of the updated treasure table. A similar bug (also caused by the M/R changes) with VON6's loot was fixed in U35 Patch 2.

We're on the lookout for any other treasure tables that may have been affected, but DDO has several thousand treasure tables, and this kind of thing is difficult to locate without knowing the specific item to check for. We were able to locate and fix both this and the VON6 issues due to well-written player bug reports; if you suspect other items aren't dropping, the best thing you can do is submit a bug report.

I think Tomes are "inadvertently" left out of the whole game, or/and dropping the wrong values at the wrong levels. Maybe could fix that too at the same time?

Indeed. Not seen a single stat tome drop since I returned to the game on 25th Feb. In
that time I've picked up a few +skill tomes and even a +1 upgrade fate tome.

I will agree with Wizza. I haven't seen a +1 stat tome drop from loot tables for years. And at one time, before that period, I saw one drop in Haverdasher. Which actually seemed appropriate considering the min level of the tome. I digress. The tome drop rate has exponentially decreased since loot options/combinations have increased 3-4 fold. Can they be added to some X run loot tables on rewards? Like add them to all raid 20ths reward tables? (+1 for chronoscope, tempest, Von 6, +2 for titan, demon queen, and reavers fate, +3 from Ascension, Shroud, Vod, and Hox, and +4 from Artificer, Lord of Blades, and ToD, +5 from Caught in the web and Fall of truth, +6 from defiler, thunder peak, temple, and mark of death, and +7 from legendary HoX, Legendary Tempest, riding, and codex) As guaranteeds, I know everyone will do 20 for them. Tomes are one of the guaranteeds for raiding. I am sure players would even prefer if they were definitely there.

Yeah, I think doing that has no drawbacks. I mean 20th is far enough out that players won't ruin the economy, alts will get their stat love, and it would take a long time (relatively) for the characters to get them. I think BTCoA is a great limiter here in this case too. This would seal the market.

Indeed. The tome drop rate is abysmal. I have a mule with 60+ tomes on him. All but 2 or 3 of them were acquired years ago. The rate has gone from one or two a month or so, to 1 a year or so, if you are lucky.

I also agree. I have gone more than 5 heroic lives, diff chars and all at elite or reaper with BB (at least through the 1st 15 levels for sure), and not seen a single +1 attribute or skill tome drop. I believe, at the very minimum they have dropped the odds back to 4-5 years ago levels. At one point, they (devs) said they were increasing special table rates to 1 in 432 (approx), during that short 1-2 year window, I expected to get about 1 lowbie tome of some type (or a similar special table drop like XP potions, omnispell dust) each life.

I also wish they would fix the random number generator on the dailies to not consider inventory/ time logged in during the roll. If I fully login and roll in during 1st 1-10 minutes logged in, I almost inevitably roll below 20. Same if character seems to be log in lagged or moves forward at all. Problem seems to go away around 15 minutes into the login.

I tested this one full month on a single server and rolled 30 days in a row (around 1 minute into login) and NEVER rolled above 30 out of 100. The random number generator is obviously bugged or considers things during the generation of a number that it should not be doing. It is statistically almost impossible for a random number generator to roll below 30 days in a row without other factors coming into play. Test it yourselves some time.

For what it's worth last weekend I got a +1 fate tome from CiTW EH. I pulled a +2->+3 charisma tome from Heroic Shroud about 3 hours ago. It was also my 20th run and the 20th run reward list for shroud IS a bunch of +2 and +3 tomes.

Also PED's are stupidly easy to farm because you can just plow through EN gianthold in about 2 hours for a +3 skill tome.

I've probably gotten ~8 stat tomes since Jan and I've shredded more skill tomes for PED's then I can shake a stick at. That doesn't include the bucketloads I've gotten from favor either. I've seen a couple LR+5 hearts drop as well.

Oddly enough, I haven't seen a jibbers blade since last year. Go figure.

Anyways.

I admit that my experience is entirely anecdotal and probably far above the current norm.

I've gotten 2 +4 upgrade tomes in the past 4 months or so. The second one fairly recently as in within the past 2 weeks. My supply of PEDs thanks those tomes for dropping! And in the second case I offered the tome up to anyone in the group who could read it immediately, and someone who was at the +3 Wisdom point took it and then mailed me the +4 Int upgrade tome he had on the ASAH and which had dropped for him fairly recently. So a win for two people with one drop, and 3 anecdotal data points for tomes still dropping.

I do think that when the devs received those well written bug reports (and I'd be curious as to what makes a bug report "well written" when at best all it can provide is evidence of absence) that they should have at the very least added these things to the known issues list. Transparent communications is its own reward.

I believe this to be a myth. I log all of my daily dice rolls, just because I am a huge geek like that. After I first heard this "Old Wives Tale" regarding the rolls I've been amused to see my numbers come in along a statistically significant random 1-100 despite my always doing the roll as soon as I can after a log-in. Unlike retrojet I do get numbers above a 20 approximately 80% of the time. :p

Yeah, that's how it goes with drops that are a very low percentage. Even if the chance is only 1/1000 when you have so many people running those quests all the time you're bound to have people be able to report their success on pulling the super-rare drops.

For me my Kryptonite has been the Jibbers blade. For years I hadn't even seen it drop, much less have it drop for me. And this is in a great many Two-Toed runs, typically either solo or with 3+ people in the group. Easily hundreds of runs across multiple lives. When reaper was released I took to running it in R2+ for the supposed increase in item drop rates, and still never saw it drop. And on some R4+ runs I'd re-roll 3 times... Now within the past 3 months I've seen it drop three times. Still for other people, but at least for me it is no longer a unicorn or Bigfoot, something that others have seen but not me.

Most of them should be fairly static, right?
Not by hand ofc, but I'm sure some brilliant dev could help with writing a regression-check script for it.

In my entire history of playing DDO during the "daily dice" era, I roll every day I play, and I always roll immediately after logging in. I have never noticed any lack of high rolls.

I have just about the opposite. If I log in and click roll asap, I get 100 exp 99 times out of 100. However, I have found some reliable timings by spamming d100 rolls for a bit. I also have noticed if I clear out the who list by putting a period in the search box and hitting enter, my rolls are more broadly spread out instead of clustered (highs/lows), as well as making the LFG list populate properly and expose the dead LFM's, etc.

Then again, with the way these games work, it could be a symptom of many variables cropping up as a bugged out experience.

Mmm. Naw.

I cycle through the servers every weekend for my freebie Gold rolls. I get a lot of low rolls, but also several good high rolls. The RNG may have issues, but time logged in isn't one of them. It's also not level-biased. One of my recent good rolls was a +4 Charisma tome on a <9 level char. And on a Warlock char, at that! :)

That's why when someone comes to the forums pretending it's zero and cites their 500 friends as evidence, the drops I did get and the drops I witnessed even if they didn't go to me show that to be an invalid position. Because unless one is just willfully ignoring evidence or calling people liars ("making stuff up"? Really?), one drop is still a drop.

Your bad luck and your many friend's bad luck does not magically make it a zero drop rate. Just abysmal.

Cool.

So can we fix Tomes' drop rates now? And the wrong values dropping in higher levels?

So did I, but since I had to copy & paste them one at a time I switched them to proper order for posting.

Also, your 52 shows that you aren't suffering the bug, correct? Previous to this everyone complaining of the bug said they could never roll higher than 20 or 30?

When I rolled and got that value, I thought to myself, well there goes my point. :) However I have logged in and instant 100'd before. Overall, I am not saying I get only crappy rolls from immediate login to rolling. However a majority of them are. Enough so that I did some experiments and found that a 'pattern' exists where some rolls are high in a row and some are low in a row and if you are at the end of that cluster, you can get high or low on the next click. Emphasis on click. When you log in, if you rush to click roll for the DD, your roll click could get defaulted or lost and a new roll is thrown in, or hell, they could have a default range for null. Usually a 1.

What I am saying is that ever since they first introduced daily dice (Update 17.1, March 2013) I have only ever rolled them immediately on login. Figure 1000 rolls total for me. (250 a year for four years sounds about right.) I have never noticed an unusually low distribution in my rolls.

For the past couple years I don't eat them when I roll them, but instead move them over to a mule for storage to be used on TR to get to level 2. I save 10 of each type 100 to 750 plus up to 5 each of the higher values. My mule has never had a shortage of the 400s and 500s, and generally speaking all the 100 to 500s fill up around the same time.

If only they would allow those bad boys to stack in inventory...

Placing my bet now on 'Things that will never happen'. And yes, I would smile ear to ear if proven wrong on this.

The idea I've posted (which probably wasn't original to me) was to allow combining them in the stone of change. I forget the details of what I suggested before, but something like putting 5 of the same kind into the stone of change to get back one worth 5x would be awesome.

Five 100s for a 500
Five 500s for a 2500
etc...

That's a very solid idea, something that could be considered an acceptable compromise for both sides.

Ahh, ok. I hear ya. I stopped rolling them on login after tinkering around with some roll d100 spams got me better results consistently.

As much as I could agree with that, I am sure there is a very serious reason why the stone of change hasn't seen some love for a while.

I think Tomes are "inadvertently" left out of the whole game, or/and dropping the wrong values at the wrong levels. Maybe could fix that too at the same time?

In the past few weeks several +5 tomes have dropped in the Thunderholm raids on EH

I am more concerned about +1's and +2's. Those are the introductory tomes that new players used to earn at some point. However now all you get are upgrade tomes.

Indeed. Not seen a single stat tome drop since I returned to the game on 25th Feb. In
that time I've picked up a few +skill tomes and even a +1 upgrade fate tome.

What happened with tomes was that they were totally removed from end rewards.

Under the old system (pre-MOTU), when you ran an endgame or near endgame quest, say Sins of Attrition, you got ~3 chests, then a selection from 7 or 10 end rewards (depending on the quest length).

That was 13 chances to get a tome, because if you saw one on your 10 end rewards, you almost always took it.

Now, there's 3 - just the chests.

Mneumonic potions disappeared from the end reward loot tables at the same time (IIRC this was when loot tables were changed so that potions no longer replaced 'real items' like weapons; instead you always got one 'real item' and might also get a potion).

Mana potions aren't totally gone but where I used to get ~15 in the course of levelling from 1 to 20, now I might see two.

Yes, this item has unintentionally fallen out of the treasure table. This is fixed internally, and should appear in an upcoming patch.

Returning to the original subject of the thread, anyone knows if the Seal of the Abbot is now dropping on hard/elite after the patch of the 1st of june? If anyone can confirm a drop it would be great.

As far as I know, there are no release notes and I have only seen they mentioned the issue of items disappearing after reincarnation.

Nope, that fix is coming in U36. The only thing in the patch yesterday was tech to help monitor for reincarnation issues to aid our progress in solving the problem. Sorry :(

Put the seal in the DDO store and give us a coupon code.

Or just sell it.
