1. Please do something to increase the size of the Friends list. Also could you make there be a single friends list for all characters.

2. Most of my DDO friends have been playing for years. We each have many characters and with the exception of me, add new characters fairly often (I am at 45 and cannot add more).

2a. I thought about suggesting you simply shrink down the friends list to have 5 columns, online "Name of Player"/"Player ID", "Current Character Logged In", "Class", "Lvl", and "Guild". That would allow you to always see when you friends are on regardless of what Nick they are using. My list would be collapsed at least to 1/4 size if not 1/8. I am not even sure how many on the list are repeats without closely studying.

2b. I then remembered friends that because of things like divorce would create a new character for playing and not return to their old ones for a while. They would not want their "Ex"s to know they were on. A few others because of in-game drama for whatever would also want to hide from specific people. That means always showing everyone when they are on, including people trying to hide from, or no one with the Anonymous switch.

2c. The other solution to collapse Friend lists would be use the five columns I suggest but is make Friending always require it be both ways. If you do not have someone on your Friend list they cannot see you even if you are on their friend list. If someone is wanting to hide from someone, they simply delete them from their friends list. The only problem I can see with this solution is that some people are members of multiple guilds, some of which have guild leaders which require you to have all your characters in only their guild and will kick you if they see you with a character in another guild.

2d. As you can see both of those solutions add problems and possibly a major recoding of the Friends code. I do not know how the current Friends code is, but I suspect it uses a variable that tells how long the list is, and checks the size of that variable with a maximum value stored as a constant whenever a new character name is to be added. If so, to increase the size of the friends list would be simply be increasing the size of that variable and recompiling.

3. The other problem is keeping my multiple Friends lists in sync. When I add a friend to a list, I must export the updated list and then import the list into all my other characters. It would be much easier if there was simply one Friends list for all the characters.

3a. The only problem I can see with this is those people that actually want to have multiple Friend lists because they are hiding from some people (Ex, in game drama) like I indicated before for a sometimes reason to create a new character. The requirement for mutual friending would help with this.

3b. It could be handled much like the shared bank. I believe this would reduce your overhead and disk space requirements as the code would not have to keep loading new lists as players change characters and you would not need to store separate lists for each character.

Also could you make there be a single friends list for all characters.

There is. Or can be, at least. On the Friends tab you'll see two buttons: Export and import. Export your friends list on one character and then you can import that list to all of your other characters.

I see you say you have 45 characters so this is going to be a pain for you, but you are a fringe case and the chances of SSG coding something to make the lives of the presumably small group of people with 45 characters easier are minimal.

The mouse-over for the export button reads 'Export your list of friends to file' and that file was placed in (on my computer, at least):
C:\ProgramData\Turbine\DDO Unlimited
FriendsList.ini

You could possibly edit this by hand to contain all of your friends. Or you could possibly do some amount of file name juggling to prevent overwriting and save down the current friends list for all of your characters and then combine them into a single list that you could then import to all of your characters. Again, this might be a lengthy and tedious process.

I have a LOT of friends with 6 - 20 toons and I can only list a few because of the maximum size of the Friend's List. This is the reason I originally posted, I desire a modification to increase the size of the Friend's List. My Friend's List is full.

Also that does nothing for the fact that I have been playing for years and have a lot of friends, some of which have photo sensitive epilepsy and certain spells and other effects like Colors of the Queen can initiate seizures. I cannot always tell the person I am questing with is one of those people because it is a nick I forgot or never saw.

The idea of a common Friend's list that was always loaded instead of each character having individual lists was a thought while posting for the expanding of he size of the Friend's List. I know how to export and import a Friend's List. It would just be nice to have a common Friend's List rather than having to constantly export every time to add a friend and then import it across all of your characters.
