A mysterious young lady shows up in house J near Tempest promising great power to all who accept her invitation. This is a solo quest, and all who accept will find it very easy. Her home is located somewhere nearby, and upon entering the player finds her home littered with witch items, magic jars, couldron, and discover she is a very old Night Hag.
She tells them this is their last chance to back out, for the power she promises comes with a curse. If you survive the curse, you gain the power she promises. She laughs and giggles, telling you that she can grant up to 3 powers this way, but each curse is deadlier then the last. If you accept she performs a powerful ritual and you fall asleep and wake up house J somewhere. The quest is completed and you get 0 exp.
You remember vaguely her telling you that you are now cursed and to come see her when the curse has ended and your power granted (upon completion) before she will curse you again.
Each curse is indeed deadlier then the last.
The first curse is to be hunted by some certain kind of creature over and over. These creatures will appear during quests randomly, sometimes not appearing at all, sometimes appearing several times during a quest. They usually come in small groups and can strike at any time. They will focus on the cursed player first, and if he dies they will turn their attention to any other players still alive. If any of them succeed in killing the player, he can not be ressed for the rest of that quest.
Cursed players increase risk of adventure, thus, having a cursed player in the group adds 5% to exp from quest rewards. 6 cursed players is 30% extra exp, not bad, but that is 6 curses, and they are going to get a lot more interference that they asked for along the way.
There are 10 types of creatures that you can possibly end up stuck with for a long time, you do not get to choose.
Sauhagin - Yes, the Sauhigin WILL find you, and they might kill you in front of your pals!
Kobolds - Because there are so many to spare, and they are so willing to throw themselves at you.
Halflings - Ninja Halflings... sneaky mean ones with ninja stars!
Rust Monsters - Because everyone LOVES rust monsters!
Wraiths - Oh my god, I keep thinking they are reapers O.O!!
Ogres - They come swinging out of nowhere...
Oozes - Lucky you!
Mephits - Mwwwwahhhhhhhhh
Shadows - You can almost hear them whispering now.
Invisible Stalkers - You are certain they are following you again...
These creatures will come out of nowhere during quests, teleported next to the player and fully agro on him right away. They appear when you move, so if you need to do something real quick at least they aren't gonna be standing over your corpse when you get back. Other then that, moving in a quest causes a small chance for them to appear that is reset every 30 seconds upon movement.
You will have used to them or they will break you. If they do, you can go back to the Hag and ask she remove the curse prematurely. She agrees only if you beg her and grovel, and tells you she will not cast it again on you this life.. but perhaps another. Another ritual is performed and curse is gone. You can not be re-cursed for the remainder of your life but if you TR you can become cursed again if you want.
You will have to survive and kill these things for a while before the curse ends. It will last more then a lifetime. Maybe two, or three... they will come, their champs will come, their casters will come, their hard hitting meanies will come and they will get tougher as you get closer to defeating the curse until the final boss himself comes, determined to destroy you! When he comes, it can be at any time during a quest... so it could be a bad timing and hard fight. If he wins, he sends you back a long ways before you will see him again... and you are stuck with more minions. If you win... your curse matures into a new power, the main part you choose, while two minor powers granted are depending on what you had to fight for so long. One minor being a +3 to a skill, the other a +3 to damage all creature types of the type you had to put down for so long. The main power is a choice from -
New Innate Power Feat (Choose)
Displacement usable once per a rest
Shadow Walk usable once per a rest
Teleport usable once per a rest
Water breathing permanent
Break Enchantment usable 5 times per a rest
You can only one feat from the choices, and cannot repeat to get others but can visit the hag for the even deadlier curse. If you accept 2 of the creature types that you did not have the first time are then selected, and can come at the same time as teams. Even worse every time they appear a curse spell is cast on you, and sometimes it is cast even when they do not appear. The curse is now popping up on its own during quests, easy to suppress if you are prepared, but the monsters, and sometimes you are caught up... it has moments that urk. The final after another long even more painful campaign is now 2 bosses at the same time showing up to throw you back. Beat them and choose your next power.
Glorious Gains +2 glory bonus to any one attribute
Fast Learner +3% glory bonus to exp
Leap out of the Way - Works like Leap of Faith but doesnt cost sp
Think Fast - Activate to gain 100% dodge for 10 seconds.
Power Buff - Rage, Haste, Fireshield, Good Hope, Expeditious Retreat, Jump, and Blur all in one cast, usable once per a rest
These new powers will serve you well over time. You may feel compelled to go on with the hags vicious challenge and accept her final and most deadly curse as the taste of power is too much to resist! If you do, you get 3 of the creatures that were not previously used in the other two curses all combining forces and teaming up against you. You might get Oozes, Mephits, and Kobolds and feel like the sewers are following you.. you might get Sauhagin, Halfling Ninjas, and Wraiths. The curse that was happening before is now happening much more often, and other nasty spells are happening randomly too during quests, not often, but it still. Slow, disease, curse, fatigue, energy drain... these things come out of nowhere, as if some evil wizard is casting them at you from some place you can not reach. This, while trying to complete quests with reaper, and now ninja halflings are throwing stars.. again!!!
The third curse is the worst, some parties will treat you like you are.... cursed! You will really feel... cursed. It will drive you nuts sometimes, or a lot of the time. The first two were nothing... but this is hell. Those freaking halfling ninjas!!! AAAHHHH!!! And the Sauhagin... Oh no... The Sauhagin found me!!!!... meaner then ever before, champion Sauhagin casters all focusing out of nowhere on you... you might end up saying it yourself!
Laugh and die!!!! Or live... fight.... and beat the curse!
3 bosses at the same time as you by now expect, but when... you don't know, and the tougher it gets the more you get the feeling your time has come. Each quest gets more gut anticipating as you suspect they are gonna try and push you back down under the water.. you are running Wheelon and you finally reach Korloth... "you were my favorate" he says... you get a really bad feeling suddenly this is it... "I can not bear to think what will happen to you..." ... ... he attacks... chain swings... suddenly poof "Destroy the Cursed Soul!!" "Your time to die is now fool!" "Your pathetic curse will never end" all 3 of them appear taunting you with read up messages... letting you know you are screwed now... as Korloth advances and the doggies... you jump back and around and do your thing... barely beating death and even a reaper spawns and you feeling like you are swimming through monsters certain to die a few times before beating back the mob and working down the bosses. It is a long rough battle, but you are determined to take them down, no matter what, you aren't gonna get pushed back.
Victory!
The final power matures,choose
Hue Man - By the power of Greysk... it basically gives you +6 to one attribute for 6 seconds per a level,be it strength or something else
Gale of Wind - You can not pass... go that way instead! This powerful version of Wind spell pushes lots of creatures back and keeps blowing for a long time over a greater area of effect. A dragon can stand up to it, but it will slow him down. This power is usable once per a rest, and it dispels all cloud effects.
Trail Blazer - You activate this power to create a wall of fire behind you in a line, this spell keeps going off every 5 seconds for 6 seconds per a character level. This is usable once per a day.
Snowslide - As druid wolf spell but with cooldown every 60 seconds.
Earth Quake - Usable three times per a day.. knock em down!
The second curse also gives +10% exp, and the third one +15% exp. This can add up fast, but the pressure comes with it, and those cursed end up stacking their risks if they team up. 6 triple cursed toons get +75% per a quest, so they can get a lot of exp but it won't be so quick and easy still with all of them having stuff come at them during their quests.. each their own unique combo. Death from one of the hunters means no res... so there is very good reason for such returns as 75% exp.
Would you do it? You don"t have to, just like you don"t have to TR and all. It wouldnt add TRing, but it would complicate it for some time. After that, you got new powers forever. I think I would do it, might have to plan a bit differently, but yeah, if it gave powers like that, I would go for it.
Hopefully I wouldn't get stuck with saying...
Oh no... the Sauhagin found me!!
