Silly idea I know.

I was reading some call for old pre MoTU version.

Others say this version is going haywire. But I really like it. I hope it keeps going, because I like what SSG is doing, taking risks, and thinking about the game more then those before.

You can't make everyone happy, but thank you for trying SSG! Im happy!

Now.. my idea

Open a pre version, and allow an engine transfer to let those who want old version go to old version. If they want back, there is a door to get there. This would actually transfer data from one game to another entirely, but conversion stuff is easy! I did it for 60k a year, I know!

This would get disgruntled vets where they are happiest instead of being disgruntled. They win. They might come back. Option available.

This version stays and grows.

And if in the future things go well, a new engine new version, or just new engine or something... don't know.

Possibly a new kind of game where you transfer your toon over to a Immortality spec'd game. Those who don't to go dont. Just an idea.

I am guessing the pre version would be cake to do.

Not even concerned about some new version, even though others have here and there suggested it. If it happens, Id at least hope I can transfer my main toon there without losing time I am putting here.

I have no intention of stopping, Im content.

I would probably make a toon for old version for fun. One this time :P Then again, with such a small crawl to the top, there a collection could be easily acquired and mean something.

Alts are awesome in old version. I could put my alts there, even if they lose above top level there, and there they would still be awesome.

Here in power creep land, with nothing to keep alts on par, mains are awesome, alts are okish at best.

So, if a pre version opens, Ill move my alts there (except my mules on the server of my main hehehehe) and focus on my main here. If I feel like playing an alt, they are there waiting to be awesome!

If I feel like playing my main, it is here waiting to be awesome!

Seems like a happy solution if you ask me. I know from what I heard some others would love to go to old version.

Would be even more cool to know there is a door to go back and forth, maybe a 1 time free move, after that pay per toon.. who knows.

If a new engine version comes out in the future (and I hope not, please dont scrap this version, my toon... must go on!!!) I would look at it carefully to consider making alts there or not, and definitely put a main there and have fun.

DDO ROCKS!

I never played winternights, but those teiflings look awesome! (which has nothing to do with anything I just said)

If you were only being paid 60k a year for data conversion between systems you weren't doing it on anything overly important OR you were doing the donkey work OR you were being severely underpaid my friend.

I expect there is a lot more "issues" than you think with doing this, a LOT more. What happens to systems that didn't exist in the pre-whatever-version-you-are-deciding-on-to-keep-running server? Does that data "stay" and simply not get displayed, OK then that means work on the "old" systems to maintain their tables and keep up with changes in the new, granted fairly easy work but still man hours will need to be devoted to it. What if that data is "hard coded" in some way so that an inherent (tome) attribute bonus couldn't be higher than +4. Does the toon that bought all +7's just suck up that they are gone now? How much time to you resort to fixing that kind of issue when the actual progressing game needs to be moved forward.

What about that old version code base that has a dupe exploit? Oh yeah probably need to patch that out especially if you want to be able to move back and forth easily so there's more man hours and testing (exponentially more quite likely) for each bug fix.

What do you do about adjusted drop rates? In an older version getting +1 to +4 tomes was relatively easy with +1 and +2 dropping regularly enough that they rarely commanded a price over 100k plat on the Auction house (+1's routinely were in the 40-50k range) again if we can transfer back then you might not want this to become a "farming" server for the "real" server.

What about items in the store that don't exists or apply in the "old" server (say MRR potions or something) do we maintain two separate stores? Do we allow them to be purchased but useless? What about the specials/freebies do we have to ensure that they are available and useful in both versions? Do we have to run two separate sales / specials?

How about something like daily dice? Does this simply not function in the "old" server, if it does what if it grants something like the above? What about the experience stones, they didn't exist in the "old" code base will we / should we allow the dice and the Otto's stones in the "old" server? If we do then that's more work that needs to be done to harmonize the systems.

I could go on but I fear that would be obnoxious. All of this doesn't even sniff at the population fragmentation / issues that this would result in. You think it's a bugger to get a PUG together today with all the different difficulties? Image we add an entire different version of the game to that mix, it can't possibly make it any better. What happens if enough players drop into the "old" server that merging the existing servers is needed, how many people are going to be happy that they lose their guild OR have to change their name because of it?

Seriously there are SO many issues with this idea it's one that has been killed and should probably stay dead. Don't get me wrong I would LOVE a Pre-MOTU server where Epics were tough and TR'ing meant something real and competitionists were rare mythical creatures that most people had heard of but never met. Those were by and large good days with active and meaningful end game but the logistics involved are mind boggling and frankly, at this point, I expect insurmountable.

Its just an idea. I don't care about it that much.

And I converted files for AIRBUS... it was a head ache never ending juggle act. Glad I don't do that anymore :P But it is easy!

well....i don't think this is errrrm time worthy considering all the things they said they would do.
