View Full Version : Sneaky Cleric!

Here is my idea and thinking...

17Cleric/2Monk/1Rogue

The big thing I want to be able to do is have some light melee, evasion, some trapping (maybe not, will play test it).

The big thing is the ability to be sneaky fast.

What the levels get me...

17 Cleric...gets me:

Radiant Servant stuff, mainly Healing burst and Healing Aura (T5 Radiant Servant)

I may try to fit in some Warpriest..mainly Inflame stuff and Divine Might

I also get Mass Heal and a lot of other mass cures.

2 MNK gets me:

Wisdom to AC (iono if it'll matter though)

2 Feats, evasion

1 ROG gets me: Native UMD, a lot of skill points and some modest trapping (though this may not be feasible...the trapping)

Action Points:
32 in Radiant Servant...I really don't love Radiant Servant other than the T5. So my goal is to get more turns (healing bursts), regenerating turns (bursts), and Healing Aura and any low hanging Cure Potency stuff (core 4 is really nice IMHO)

14 in Ninja Spy (1 Core, 3 in Stealthy, 4 in Sneak Attack Training, 3 in Acrobatic, 3 in Agility)

6 In Assassin (1 Core, 3 in Sneaky, 2 for Sneak Attack Training)

8 or 11 in Shintao (1 Core, 3 in Deft Strikes, 3 in Iron Skin, 1 in Reed in the wind...can go more in Reed in the Wind, but the AP will have to come from somewhere else...maybe Inflame:Saves)

17 in Warpriest (1 Core, 3 in Divine Might, 1 in Toughness, 3 Wall of Steel, 3 Inflame, 3 Inflame Saving Throws, 3 Inflame : Energy Resistance)

3 in Human (1 Core, 2 Healing amp)

1 in Henshin for the 10 melee Power

This adds up to...

81 AP...so you gotta find 1 AP that you don't want. I would remove 1 AP from Inflame: Saving throws, but if you were not a Human, maybe you keep that and not have any in the Racial Tree)

Feats: This is where I am struggling and I would like some feedback

This is a version where I take Cleric at level 1...easier to fit in Maximize and Empower...but you lose out on a lot of Skill Points

Cleric at level 1
1 Empower Heal
1 Maximize
3 Completionist
4(Monk) TWF
6 Empower?
9 ITWF
12 Improved Crit Pierce
15 GTWF
18 Quicken
19(Monk) Precision
21 Overwhelming Critical

Here it is taking Rogue at level 1...which makes Maximize really hard to fit in...and you get stuck with some melee feats that you may or may not want/like

1 Dodge?
1 Mobility (or Maybe Weapon Focus?)
3 Completionist
4(Monk) TWF
6 Empowered Heal
9 Quicken
12 ITWF
15 Improved Crit Pierce
18 GTWF
18 (monk) Precision
21 Overwhelming Crit
24 Adept of Forms (or maybe Maximize or Intensify Spell, which also gives some SP)

Dodge and Mobility add to your Dodge Bonus, which may be really nice. Also taking ROG at level 1 lets you kinda get a head start on your skills (some open lock, trapping stuff, though I may just go with a bunch athletic skills here, like jump, swim, tumble etc)

Stats are kinda tight...I won't have DEX to damage, just to hit from Ninja Spy. Not really 100% sure which way to go here. Where should level ups go? I was thinking maybe DEX for a better Attack roll and Reflex Save since Cleric has a bad reflex and I want Evasion to work. Also, since i will be in Robes, DEX=AC.

36 Point Build

STR 14
DEX 15 (level ups)
CON 12
INT 14
WIS 14
CHR 14

Skill Points:

Max Heal, Concentrate, Hide and Move Silently, UMD.

You can play with the rest.

I was thinking getting for points into Search, Disable Device, Open Lock at level 1 and then relying on gear and past lives to get it to working levels for Epic Hard content. I doubt it could get Epic Elite stuff.

Playstyle:

Melee with debuffing Shortswords (like an Epic Envenomed Blade and similar items) while your aura is going and Consecrate is up. UMD Displacement and rely on Dodge and all those Blurry abilities.

Always try to have a nice Cure Potency going along with Crit. I use the gloves from Fall of Truth.

In really hard content where stuff hits stupidly hard, allow other melees get aggro or if cleaving blows hurt a lot...you can always go to Heavy Armor and Turtle behind a shield and focus on Aura, consecrate and support.

I am sure this is not Min-Maxed enough to be the best, but I think it will be fun. I will post back how it works.

After about 1 night of playing it...

I can't say this is good. It is fun, but its lacking.

Not maxing out WIS or at least starting at a 16 and putting level ups into it...

I think my 18Cleric/2MNK with Stunning fist outperformed this.

My 17Cleric/3MNK with Stances was better as well.

At 20 Cap I ran a 17Cleric/2MNK/1FTR and I dual-wielded Heavy Picks (1 Triple Earth/Earth Grab) back when it was auto-crit.

This build is spread just a little two thin.

Cannot recommend lol.

nice try lol! Sneaky builds tend to be maxed out in dex, and sometimes INT for int assassins. You also need extra movement speed (monk gives a little) to make up for the slowdown of stealth. Sneak speed enhancements stack and that is WAI. A stealth build needs burst DPS since it can isolate opponents and will need some way of beating down bosses.

I recommend 12 monk/6 ranger/2 rogue thrower in fury for this. That is my plan; another option, ofc, is an assassin, and you can even consider the Prowler in my sig for a faster assassin (gives up some DPS for other goodies)

Yeah this is fun to play...just my DPS is pretty low.

I was hoping to get a different "feel" from a caster cleric.

Yep, saw that coming, and you hit the reason square on.

With a class with only 2 skill pts base, you either 1) need a HIGH Intell, or 2) need a bunch of Rogue levels - or both.

Dump the Monk, accept no Lvl 9 spells, see if Cler 15/Rog 15 might do something for ya. Maybe an Int build (esp if you have Harper Tree, light damage!), minimal Wis (just enough to cast w/ gear), ignore spell DC's.
