View Full Version : Crafting Success Boosters Problem?

Is there a problem with the cannith crafting success boosters? I have some 35% boosters from the DDO store, and I've been trying to craft level 425 shards for a while. It says I have a 16% success chance (I'm level 400), which is 51% with the booster. I used to succeed about half the time, but lately, it hasn't even been close. I only have a few successes in the last 20-25 attempts. I know the sample size isn't huge, but it's large enough that I'm starting to wonder. It takes a lot of effort to get the collectables, so there's no good way to test it, and I don't want to spend this much time farming collectables if I really only have a 16% success chance.

Whenever I start to feel like something is amiss I start closing and reopening the machine between each failure. This almost certainly has no effect, but my magical thinking brain feels better about things being "reset."

I think they nerfed it. Boosters were on sale and I thought about buying a stack but then I noticed a note and rethought my purchase. There is a note on the boosters that say they only work when your base success chance is at 50% or greater. I'm new to crafting so I don't know if that has always been there or not. My interpretation is that they nerfed the massive XP gains by disallowing you to boost your success chance from 3% to 38% and gain massive XP.

I just verified in-game that boosters still work on 13% shards, which is the lowest % my crafter currently has to work with. But I didn't even really need to verify it. Boosters working on 3% shards is a profit center. It would be counter-productive to "nerf" them.
EDIT: Checking the store for the note on the boosters, that's a holdover from the old crafting system, where you weren't allowed to attempt any recipes that were below a 50% chance of success before boosters. They removed that limitation in the crafting pass. Now you can boost anything you can attempt, and you can attempt anything that has a non-zero chance of success.
EDIT 2: And during this check right now I noticed that they're still on sale. Get 'em while the gettin's good!

Good, I'm glad. I'm looking forward to a crafting bonus weekend when (hopefully) I can get all of the crafting levels that I want/need.
I actually went in last night and checked and it shows that the boosts are to be applied. I didn't test it by crafting anything though. I'm still just crunching all of my vendor trash and saving up essences. I'm about lvl 86 just doing that and have saved up about 35k essences so far.

Did you just put the booster into the machine and see that the displayed number changed, or did you actually try crafting a bunch of stuff?
I haven't been farming collectables much anymore, since it's a real grind, and I'm tired of failing about 85% of the time and losing the ingredients. I have tried 5 more unbound insightful con shards since my original post, though, and had 0 successes. Given the number and types of bugs DDO has, I wouldn't exactly be shocked if the crafting boosters weren't working. Yes, it's possible that I'm just having a really unlucky streak that is amazingly close to the success percentage without the booster, but at this point, I'm convinced that a bug is more likely.
Is there anyone else out there with max crafting levels who has crafted a bunch of level 425 shards over the last couple of months with the 35% boosters and seen something approximating a 50% success rate?

Did you just put the booster into the machine and see that the displayed number changed, or did you actually try crafting a bunch of stuff? When I wrote that I just put the booster into the machine and saw the displayed number change. Since I wrote that I have done a complete crafting session, taking my dualbox crafter from 199 to 278, always using <50% recipes (3% wherever possible) and always using boosters. They continue to work fine, as expected.

I wouldn't recommend crafting anything that costs collectables using boosters. I would stick with ML shards, which only costs essences, to level high enough so that the collectable-costing effects have 100% chance at success.
Further, I wouldn't recommend anyone craft anything unbound, ever.

Why? Crafting unbound ML13-20 shards seems like a good thing to do, as long as they don't cost the creator or the user Purified Eb Dragon Shards.
Edit: To be clear, I'm talking about just passing unbound ML shards to lower level crafters. So that they can use them to make something BTA in later heroics.
