View Full Version : Risia Ice Games - Harbour Jump - Party Ice Coins

Anyone know exactly how it works? I just learned today that like Mabar, the ice games shares coins to party members.
The wiki does not seem to say anything about it. Anyone know what the odds are and if it is possible that another party member can get your coin (instead of an extra one - one party member seems to have observed this)?

No idea what the chances are, but the second part of that sentence is accurate in my experience - when you collect a coin there is a chance that someone else in the party gets it instead. Earlier today, I grabbed the purple coin six times but there were only two in my bag because the other four had gone to others in the party. If everyone can get to the purple coin, then I expect it will balance out in the long run. If you don't mind helping others out by farming purples for them, then there's no problem (as the coins aren't bound though, you could just hand the purple coins over, it's not necessary to group). That said, it would be nice to know if the "instead of" bit is intended as "as well as" would encourage more grouping.

I wonder how that would work in Zawabi's for the blue coin farm there? That would be an easy test

In order to party share/steal
1. You must be in the harbor
2. You must be in the SAME instance of the Harbor
3. The coins that were meant for you will go to the other party member. One purple coin per party. So, if you have six people but only one able to hit the purple, it is not six purples, just one.
If the party member is not in the harbor, no coins for them.
If the party member is not in the same instance, no coins for them.
Of course, since there is only one instance(mostly) everyone is always in the same instance.
I have never tried to figure out the odds of it happening. If you are the only jumper then the odds are too high, if you cannot make the jump, then the odds are not high enough.
BTW, for this reason I always have accept party invites off. Unless I feel like sharing.
This has been going on for a few years now, too.

Yes, this is the key question. Would love a dev response on this. If they could change it to "as well as" instead of "instead of", that would go a long way to reviving the event.

It's definitely "instead of", and not "as well as".
But I disagree that if it was changed to "as well as", that it would greatly increase participation. The only thing that would increase participation is more worthwhile stuff to barter for. The only things I've ever been interested in are the Icy Burst, the Trinket, and maybe the Snow Elemental Gems (but those cost quite a bit of materials for just 1 a pop.) The Cold Spell Power/Glaciation effects are essentially obsolete now that Random Loot and Cannith Crafting have been updated (unless it's a Festival bonus that stacks with other Cold Spell power sources.) The wand is good for low level characters, but loses it's usefulness very quickly.

I would park 5 accounts near the Purple Coin while jumping with a sixth. While great for me, it would quickly and massively deflate the value of everything from the festival, as well as adding a healthy dose of lag. :)

I'm not suggesting 1:1, but rather a chance - say 10-20% that when you get a coin, one other party member also gets one. Like Mabar.
The way it works now is unacceptable and discourages parties and socialisation, which events like this are supposed to encourage.
Lag is not a relevant consideration. If such code would produce lag, then there are bigger problems. The best solution to lag is for the servers to be run on bare metal again - no more virtualisation - but beancounters... :/

In that case I would only park one extra character, just as I did with Mabar. :) That small degree of loot multiplication would not bother me.

I agree. It would be nice if Coins simply went to the character who grabbed them. They are not bound and easily traded.

I am not a network administrator and cannot speak to such things. :) I do know this: there is what should be done and what actually will be done. If what will be done results in a bunch of lag, it pretty much ruins the game for me so I worry about such changes.

That is a fair point. In short-term groups, the random "coin goes to someone else" means someone is going to feel short-changed; in long-term groups, the randomness balances out, and so is rather pointless. Consequently, I'd like to see the randomness go. Random idea: As coin respawn times are individually based, would "larger group = (slightly) lower respawn time" encourage grouping without grossly increasing the amount of purple out there?
