View Full Version : Warforged and maximum dex bonus

Here is the problem:
Mithril body gives Warforged light armor but makes them stuck with 5 max dex bonus (MDB), which makes it more or less useless due to how important dodge is. If you use composite body you have no MDB to worry about but instead you get no PRR bonus and you cap your MRR at 50.
Other races can use light armor to get the PRR bonus, increase the MRR cap to 100 while still having a high MDB (and thus high dodge).
Clearly something is off, and the reason why it is this way is because the MDB values are placed on the specific armor items and not on the "armor type" as a whole. It was never an issue before we had dodge and the MDB of light armors started to significantly increase with level.

The solution:
The first solution that comes to mind is to add a MDB enhancet on all docents, that changes the MDB based on your body feat.
That may take a lot of work however.

A much simpler solution would be to just grant Warforged and Bladeforged either a feat that increases MDB based on character level, or grant them a stacking feat every few levels that increases MDB.

How MDB should they get?

Examining: http://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Light_armor

Named armors:
Level 10: MDB: 7-9
Level 15: MDB: 11-12
Level 20: MDB: 11-19
Level 25: MDB: 19
Level 30: MDB: 22-24

Leather armors:
Leather MDB: 6 ML: 1
Skirmish MDB: 8 ML: 4
Feycraft MDB: 11 ML: 10
Spiritcraft MDB: 14 ML: 16
Celestial MDB: 18 ML: 22

Chain armors:
Chainmail MDB: 5 ML: 1
Skirmish MDB: 7 ML: 4
Feycraft MDB: 9 ML: 10
Spiritcraft MDB: 11 ML: 16
Celestial MDB: 13 ML: 22

My suggestion would be to match the chain armors up to level 22 and end up at 21 MDB at level 30.

The feat/s would be:
Level 4 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 10 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 16 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 22 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 24 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 26 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 28 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat
Level 30 Gain 2 stacking MDB if you have the mithril body feat

We've been asking for this ever since the armor revamp in U14/MotU changed the base armor types and in particular their MDB progression (http://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Light_armor#Chain_Armors). To my mind it's a no-brainer that they should follow the chain armor progression; either automatically with char lvl or granted by docents with the right ML.

While they're at it, it's be nice if they fixed other Mithral Body bugs, like not working with DWS & Tempest enhancements (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/467755-Mithral-Body-and-Ranger-Enhancements). :(

They need to just ditch the **** broken docents. A fleshy can toss on a robe, medium heavy, whatever. The robots gotta use a feat and then get screwed in dodge.

The problem here is that there is no way to fix gimped docents without making warforged op.

1) True Mithral

I get chainmail PRR, Armor Class, with light armor dodge and evasion to boot.

Mithral Plating is OP, essentially +12 PRR and +10 AC in a single feat.

2) Light Armor Equivalent

I get light armor dodge, and max dexterity bonus.

Mithral Plating is gimp. Spending a feat to get what everyone already gets for free.

3) Chainmail Equivalent

I get Chainmail PRR, Armor Class, with chainmail dex bonus and dodge.

Mithral Plating is gimp. Spending a feat to get what everyone already gets for free.

Proposal:

Mithral Plating SHOULD give...

Light Armor PRR, MDB, MRR cap.
Chainmail Armor Class.

Chainmail PRR unlock via tier 1 enhancement.

Yup...its rather disappointing a bug like this has been around for years. Considering docents work correctly with other classes enhancement I can't imagine the fix is even all that hard.

Docents in general need a revamp though. They just haven't scaled well with power creep and should be brought in line with other armors. With the way they currently work its literally a penalty to take a body feat. Why do I want to spend a feat just to make myself worse? Oh well...I'm hoping dragonborns look cool because then I'll have an excuse to stop playing warforged...I do it purely because they look cool even if they aren't exactly good for melee builds anymore lol.
