1) Do you need to slot it on the armor to reduce the ASF, or can you slot it elsewhere (on a ring for example) and reduce the ASF of your armor ?

2) Does it work for shield ASF if you slot it on the shield (and you wear no armor)

Thank you

http://ddowiki.com/page/ASF

"A Sapphire of Spell Agility +5/+10/+15 in a Blue Augment Slot reduces ASF by 5%/10%/15%. This reduces total ASF, and as such can be on any item rather than needing to be on the armor or shield that's causing ASF."

Keep it mind it won't show the change in failure on the item if slotted in an armor, it will still show the base. Check your spells for the change.

Remember that ASF is cumulative: e.g., if your armor has 25% ASF and your shield has 15%, then you have a total of 40% ASF. Also note that several Enhancements like Arcane Fluidity affect armor ASF but not shield ASF. The Twilight property will stack with blue ASF augment, but Twilight only applies to the ASF of the armor or shield it's on; i.e., Twilight armor doesn't affect shield ASF and vice versa.

EDIT: this is why Skyvault (http://ddowiki.com/page/Skyvault_Shield) is popular with some arcane builds - 0% ASF, up to three augment slots, full defensive benefits of tower shields.

For the sapphire of spell agility it doesn't matter where you slot it. You get the 15% ASF.

Nice to know: Where it does matter is the sapphire for the max dex bonus. That has to go in your armor to increase the max dex bonus.

This I didn't know. If it affects the armor directly does that mean it stacks with the daggertooth belt? I had assumed it wouldn't.

I have an armored agility +2 augment in my ring right now and it's increasing my max dex bonus without any problem. (bladeforged with adamantine body if for some reason that matters)

It's been a couple years when I made that mistake, since then I've always put it in the armor. If it works now, even better, then forget what I said. :)
