Check the settings in the launcher and look for one that says "close launcher after opening the game" or something similar, disable it and see if that helps.

Are you running Windows 10?

There is a feature called "Tablet Mode" that does this in Windows. You can turn this off by:
1. Click on Action Center (or Notification Center) icon in Taskbar notification area.
2. Now click on "Tablet mode" tile to disable the tablet mode immediately.

1. Make sure you are running the game via TurbineLauncher.exe, if you are on W10 make sure to do this as Admin.
2. Do you have any other input devices connected to your computer? If so unplug them and just leave your mouse and keyboard.
3. If you are on W10 also try having the game installed to a directory other than Program Files, W10 is very twitchy about anything in those system folders.
