Business boomed not long past. Every guild member knew the Halfling tinker that forged all the gear for any type of adventurer. Warriors, wizards, the holy and the lowly.. they all came for the wares of the guild smithy. Stores were always full of resources; adventurers preferred to unload their booty for the platinum guild leaders offered over money from town. The Free Agents and Coin Lords must have not been pleased with an independent entity selling so much to someone else. Thinking so derives from suspecting those financial masters of Stormreach had something to do with the new laws governing methods of how any tinker plies a trade. Cannith forges now require rare materials, purified Eberron Dragonshards, to create every item for anyone not able to share the smith's bank. The Cannith crafting hall on the Spelljammer will still be useful but will be silent with no more glorious stories of quest while adventurers wait for their new gear.

Boon is as great a joy as the new restrictions imbue a feeling of loss of status. A belt came to the shop.. a magic combination not before seen. The belt enhanced constitution and strength yet may be worn by any near novice. No indications of masterful craftsmanship were present. Restriction was not the only new method provided by House Cannith. Old and new powers are combined in remarkable compliments usable by less experienced spelunkers. Augmenting no longer requires other powers to be weaker. Sharing.. showing off great crafted items would be a happiness. The guild craft hall would never be without company of great heroes.

I WAS the guild smithy.

The newly formed Guild for Fullrange Nondrunk Magical Creations does not approve of your uncertified attempts at item creation! We recommend retraining and complying with a strict regimen of quest romping and ingredients shaking!

Get at it halfling!

While some tomes are unbound and can be given to the smith to cover the purified shard costs, other tomes are btc or bta. Crafting for others becomes extremely limited. Crafting in general now depends upon rare drops.

And in his place a wider range for personal achievement, rather than having every first lifer being completely uber yet gear dependent with the shiniest equipment many veterans would drool over had they not themselves had such a crafter or crafted themselves.

The new crafting system is rewarding. Be thankful you are one of those at the top of the chain.

Uber gear was a draw.. part of what attracted new members to the guild. The old crafting system was a part of enabling another personal achievement: building a strong guild. I don't know what you might think of what guilds are. To me my guild is people all on the same team. When I assemble adventurers from a guild list I would rather have the guy that is fighting beside me to have the best gear; he's fighting for the same goal I am. Some poor rogue that doesn't find a trap box for having search gear just a couple points shy of difficulty check doesn't assist the adventuring team. Personal achievement at that moment is not a feeling he will have.

Think another way: do you drive? You need that car, yes? Did you assemble your car yourself?

Now of course this is just a game. You won't miss work for not having Greater Twilight Life Shield armor. The idea, however, is still the same. Everything you have in life someone else created. Heck.. the very job you might have is provided by someone else. Restricting unbound crafting so sounds kin to a smithy saying "Oh, I can only shoe horses for myself. You need to shoe your own horse, right after smelting the ore and creating the horse shoes yourself".

My personal achievement was gaining the responsibility of creating the gear the entire guild used. Now members are on their own for as far as gaining equipment. My personal achievement, what I enjoyed the most, has been ended. I held a high status. I kept members supplied. That is achievement if nothing else. I didn't care if someone was first life, tenth life, first level or epic. If they were with me they had the best gear.

Or just put a little more effort into it. Unbound items are now just flat out unbound. Not BoE. So build a stable of new equipment and ask that when they are done with it, they return it.

Yes it's a little harder to make a nice newbie weapon or two but the good news now is that you only have to make a few and the entire guild can use them over and over and over again.

Wait, let me get this straight, crafting any item (I don't count bound items as items, they're useless) requires purified Eberron Dragonshards? Really? Crafting was hopeless before, if this is true it is now beyond hopeless.

You can still sorta give the crafter things to get shards ... it just takes longer & you will have to run quests with them. May I draw your attention to the trades section on this page (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Purified_Eberron_Dragonshard_Fragment), Third item?
