What are other's impressions of the new crafting system so far? Mine are a mixed bag. My new crafting level is 193 after the conversion.
The Good
Really like the consolidated, single essence type. Having so many types (and especially the lessers) was a pain
Craft all the way up to ML30, and power levels beyond that even, so CC is viable beyond heroic. YAY!
Seems like you can craft much more powerful items given the same ML in the old system
Seems like there is less potential to craft coasters (e.g. accidentally crafting something that is too high ML)
Does seem like it will be more straightforward (if still grindy) to get the crafting levels by just crafting ML shards requiring the new singles essence type only.
The Bad
No more flexible shards? Seems like that was a key benefit of the old system that kind of made it worth all the grinding to get the crafting levels
It is really hard to plan what you want to craft because there is not a convenient way to see what effects can go in which slots on what type of gear without basically hovering over each crafting recipe. I have seen the new player-created crafting planner here (http://ccplaner.esy.es/main.html) (thank you ramzes7asit4!) and that's a big help, and I guess it may evolve too. I guess it's kind of a wash. The old system didn't make it all that easy to plan things out without an external tool either.
The recipes seem quite expensive in terms of collectibles ingredients. I have been collecting crafting ingredients for roughly two years. I won't use the word "religiously", but pretty consistently grabbing up treasure bag drops, taking those few steps out of the way to grab adventurer packs, etc. There are quite a few recipes even at my crafting level that I have insufficient mats to make. Hopefully the drop rates on these are increasing? Otherwise, seems like it will be adding even more grind (mats collection) to grind (crafting leveling). The AH on Sarlona isn't exactly bursting with people selling crafting mats.
The Ugly
The number of ebberon dragonshards required to craft unbound/insightful/extra slot stuff seems really high. Or the exchange rate seems pretty high. For example, anything insightful requires 5 DS. So that's 5 ToTT, or 2.5 hours of grinding EN DA. Or a +2 ability tome, or +3 skill tome. Or AS if you want to go that way. Seems steep, especially on items you wear while leveling and will only be useful for maybe 2-3 levels.
Well just throwing my thoughts out there for discussion. Hoping maybe i'm overlooking something on the bad and ugly points. :) I was only able to look things over very briefly on Lammania, so this is my first in depth look.
EDIT: Oops, I meant to post this in the general crafting board, not Lammania. Can't seem to move or delete it though. If this forum is moderated, please move it for me. :)
