View Full Version : Windows 10 Causes DDO Launcher to be Extremely Tiny

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 10. I downloaded the game from steam, and it installed just fine until I opened the launcher. The launcher is extremely small (picture below). I tried changing the display on my computer, and everything changes accordingly except for the launcher. My recommended resolution is 3840x2160. I can't drag the corners to size up the launcher either.
Any ideas on how I can see the server lists again? >.<

You have your UI elements resized. Go to settings -> system -> display -> change size of text, apps and other items to 100% and see if that works.

The launcher was in the pool!

This and check that your display drivers are properly installed, up to date and working.

Everything (text, icons, web text) scaled down (I currently have it sent to 250%), but the launcher remained the same size :/
All my drivers are up to date as well.

Yes, if you upgrade to Windows 10 I've noticed that some things, well, they sorta don't get put back the way they were found...

Assuming you've got a smaller 4k monitor... you're going to have similar issues in game. If you try to play at 4k resolution, the UI elements won't scale either AFAIK.
The only work around I can offer is to decrease your desktop resolution and play at a decreased resolution as well.
Not sure if high dpi screen is the issue....
I experienced something similar with the high dpi screen on my laptop. Not only with DDO launcher, but also other programs such as Adobe.
I found a solution here: http://www.danantonielli.com/adobe-app-scaling-on-high-dpi-displays-fix/
Dont forget to run the program with 'Disable Display Scaling on high DPS settings' selected off (right click program icon, compatibility)

It may not be the screen, per se. The video card driver reports the dpi value and that'll change change based on what resolution you select for your desktop.

helbear, I have the same problem. I recently purchased an Alienware 15R2 and it has an IGZO life IPS 3840x2160 4K UHD screen. When I ran DDO, the launcher is very small. I can still login and play the game, however. The server selection UI element (scroll bars) can help you select the server.
My real solution is to hook up to an external monitor, which is 2560x1440 IPS monitor and only display on monitor 2.
It appears DDO does not respond to Windows 10's Settings > System > Display settings where other text on the screen are.
Perhaps, you should also file a low level defect and have it fixed (including your screenshot above)?

I have been playing on my surface Pro 4 for 8 months now and I have the same problem. I had to set my desk res to 1680x1050. Kind of a waste but its the only way I can play. Before that Both the launcher and in game text where impossible to read.
Now on my new laptop Its even worse. The hot bars are so tiny I can use set all 20 out along the bottom and they would take maybe a half inch of real-estate. Only solution I have is to turn down my grafix display to 1920x1080
The solutions above have let to nothing but frustration.

This sounds more like a graphics problem than an OS problem. My old system runs fine with Win10, but the graphics are at 1920x1080. I don't think DDO is ready for 4k just yet. XD

I had the same thing here with a 4K display. I just switch my resolution to standard HD (1920x1080) before playing. Really the small launcher wasn't such a huge problem, but the hot bars don't scale properly at 4K, and at least on my laptop, it feels a little sluggish at that res. Too much for the CPU/GPU I guess.
Hindsight being 20/20, I'd have probably invested the money spent on a 4k display for a 15" laptop elsewhere. I could see this being a big impact on a 60" display but on a 15" I can't really see much difference in clarity or detail compared to 1080.

DDO badly needs a scaling UI, didn't Turbine introduce one in to LoTRO recently?

Navigate to
C:\Program Files (x86)\StandingStoneGames\Dungeons & Dragons Online
Find the file named TurbineLauncher.exe (the .exe portion of the name may be hidden)
Right click on it and select properties.
Go to the tab labeled compatibility.
Select the option about 3/4 of the way down the page that says, "Override high DPS scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:"
Right below the option is a dropdown box that defaults to "Application". Change this to System or System (enhanced)
Click "Apply" at the bottom of the page and the DDO launcher will now be regular size next time you open it.
